President Biden Introduces President Zelensky As President Putin

Filed under: General — Dana @ 4:22 pm

[guest post by Dana]

This couldn’t happen at a worse time. All eyes are on the President assessing whether he can go the distance in this election campaign or he needs to step down. This won’t help. I feel for President Biden:

President Biden on Thursday mistakenly referred to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as President Putin — the president of Russia — when introducing him at a NATO event, a gaffe that came shortly before a high-stakes press conference where his every word will be closely scrutinized.

“Now, I want to hand it over the president of Ukraine, who has as much courage as he has determination. Ladies and gentleman, President Putin,” Biden said.

“He’s going to beat President Putin. President Zelensky,” Biden said, quickly correcting himself. “I’m so focused on beating Putin, we’ve got to worry about it.”

“I’m better,” Zelensky quipped.

“You are, a hell of a lot better,” Biden added.

Does he come back from this? Is this what will tip the scales and further compel Nancy Pelosi to push harder behind the scenes for the President to step down? Is Hillary waiting in the wings waiting for her close-up? Is Kamala waiting with baited breath for her moment to word salad Americans daily from the Oval?

  1. Oh boy, it’s almost like watching a very slow-moving train wreck as each day seems to bring a new gaffe. Normally this would be laughed at but since the debate, the equation has dramatically changed. For better or worse.

  2. Just a few weeks ago we were being told these were all cheap fakes.

Remember the excuses made for the wandering Biden during the G7 photo shoot.

  3. Oof. At his press conference : “ Biden accidentally calls Kamala Harris “Vice President Trump” in answering the first question.”

  4. 25th Amendment. He is not competent to decide whether he should stay or leave.

  5. Who let him go out with only ankle-length socks that show a strip of bare skin when he crosses his legs?

    nk (2cb574)

  6. He probably wanted to skip socks entirely. They’re hard to put on at that age.

  7. So, caught a bit of the news conference. It was … OK. Just that. The MSM will of course say it’s the best news conference ever.

I caught a bit of the new campaign lie: that the Supreme Court is “the most conservative in history.” I think the Court of 1880, the Taney court and the Lochner court might have been a wee bit more conservative. But of course, he’s talking to the uninformed, courtesy of the modern school system (so is Trump, but that’s another topic).

    Kevin M (a9545f)

  8. He also implied that Trump and the NRA want to kill children.

  9. I won’t be satisfied until Biden swims across the Potomac. Mao swam the Yangtze, why can’t Biden?

  10. The performances of Biden’s Doctors, his compounding pharmacologist tonight should earn them the Presidential Medal of Freedom. I wonder what the side effects are to whatever he was juiced up on tonight are?
How long will he need to recover physically from today? What are the side effects of the recovery day(s) medications?

  11. 25th Amendment time.

Less of a train crash than a train…tap? His locomotive is only imperceptibly moving.

He’s only 5% behind and he’s basically running as a corpsicle.

I’m pretty sure his nurse-valet dresses him. Left to his own devices, he probably would walk out without pants. (Seriously.) But short socks are easier to put on for the caregiver too, you’re right about that.

    Laughing from four months ago…

  14. I wonder if SNL will do “Mastermind 2.0”, it would be so apt.

  15. corpsicle

A word coined by Larry Niven, describing the recently dead frozen for later revival.

    Kevin M (a9545f)

  16. Personally, I’d like to see the Lord Almighty weigh in on Trump’s candidacy. Or maybe it would be the Other Guy collecting what he was promised.

    Kevin M (a9545f)

  17. Maybe Biden should start wearing socks with sock garters- while he swims otherwise nude in front of the female Secret Service agents

    steveg (53ee56)

  18. IF Biden were to drop out, I know a candidate who would be guaranteed to beat Donald Trump: Nikki Haley. Oh, sure she’s not a Democrat but if this is about stopping Trump then I ask “What’s the problem?”

Are we not trying to save Democracy from Fascist Evil?

    Kevin M (a9545f)

  19. He is a gentleman- Trump is an alleycat

  20. He is a gentleman- Trump is an alleycat

Trump may have the morals of an alleycat, but he would never be caught dead in an alley.

    Kevin M (a9545f)

  21. Are we not trying to save Democracy from Fascist Evil?

After all, Biden is trying to convince legacy Republicans to vote for socialism in order to stop Trump. Why should Democrats not be willing to bite the bullet and nominate Haley?

    Kevin M (a9545f)

  22. Maybe Biden should start wearing socks with sock garters

That was the advice in the 1970s when I first learned the grooming tip, but now the full calf elastics are much better — more secure, more comfortable, and lasting through numerous washer-dryer cycles.

    nk (2cb574)

  23. Biden suggests that, normally, he’s up at 7AM and working to midnight, but with the campaign he’s trying to pace himself more.

    Kevin M (a9545f)

  24. I’ll bet Thomas, Alito and Riley Roberts all have a similar problem, a problem they have learned to live with; with varying degrees of success. Guessing Sam and Clarence will be shown over time to have hung in there longer than Riley Roberts will but who knows?

Wouldn’t be shocked to someday find Riley Roberts’ number in the black book of a high level Washington DC dominatrix- couldn’t blame him. From his point of view, he wouldn’t be paying for the domination, he’d paying for the power to make her go away at the end of the session

    steveg (53ee56)

  25. Again, he needs to show his stamina and swim the Potomac.

    Kevin M (a9545f)

  26. It was a flub, but since his condition has been concealed for so long, every mistake gets magnified. It’s the worst situation, considering that his opponent lies and gets sh-t wrong all the time and has been getting a pass.
    Rip the band-aid.

    Paul Montagu (7f669c)

  27. He immediately corrected himself. People with dementia are incapable of doing so, ’cause they don’t know they made a mistake.

Know who doesn’t correct himself after making mistakes? Trump.

    SamG (4e6c22)

  28. Sam… he didn’t correct himself after saying is Vice President was “Vice President Trump”.

People with dementia either tries to correct themselves (not always getting it right), or continue the convo, or simply tries to segue to diff topic (Biden’s copius uses of “anyway” to deflect).

This was just about the worst outcome for Democrats. Biden barely did just enough to fight to stay in, but also did so bad that it won’t quell calls to step down.

The DNC convention is going to be a monster event.

That’s the only thing Democrats has at this point.

They don’t really have any other answer.

  31. I listened to bits of the press conference as I was running errands. I heard Biden refer to Kamala as Trump. Cringe.

He sounded better than he did in the debate, but that’s a thing I’ve noticed with elderly relatives. They have good days and bad days.

Biden kept saying that he needs to finish the job. Nobody asked him why only he could finish the job, and not Kamala, or some other candidate. He’s delusional if he thinks he’s indispensable.

Hey Joe, wake up, man. You don’t have a cult following like Trump.

  33. I can understand being so anti-Trump that you’ll vote for a cabbage, but I just cannot see thinking Biden is the best person in America for the job.

  37. @30. They NEVER had anything else. Trump is the Only GOP candidate that can possibly lose to Biden.

  38. Right now the conventional wisdom is that Harris would run better than Biden. That may be true, but when Trump starts hacking and slashing at her ankles that may change.

    Kenneth P. (1f45e0)

  39. Over at DU they think trump staged it or worse. That is where we are at now. What do you expect when you call trump hitler and a threat to democracy. I have warned about this happening for some time.

Asset I applaud you for pointing out the kind of rhetoric we’re seeing now.

I don’t know how we can come back from this, but I’m praying that we do.

  41. It’s not that Harris was polling better than Biden – it’s that Biden polled a little worse after the debate so he dropped below Harris,

Biden was a little better last Thursday. Maybe he’s getting god treatment for his sleep apnea. The reporters noticed he had marks from a CPAP machine the day of the debate but the problem is cumulative. There’s daily rest, there’s what gets better and there’s more permanent damage. It would take 6 to 10 weeks to see how he will be when it’s as good as it will get.

At the press conference, Biden referred to Harris as Trump and didn’t catch himself this time. It’s like music and singing the wrong note or word.

He also wanted to refer to the head of the U.S. military. He first said commander-in-chief, realized that was wrong and then couldn’t figure out what the title was. He probably meant Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
