Palate Cleanser: Dolly Parton Introduces The ‘Doggy Parton’ Pet Apparel Collection

I love Dolly Parton for her generosity and compassion. Her Imagination Library has donated more than 130 million books to children worldwide. This is on top of any number of other charitable efforts she’s been involved with over the decades to help others in need. Today, she announced the launch of the Doggy Parton Pet Apparel Collection, with part of the proceeds going to the animal rescue group, Willa B. Farms in Tennessee. Amusingly: “Products in the collection include blonde wigs, cowgirl hats, dresses and plush toy guitars.”

The line can be found at Amazon or at DoggyParton.com.

Dolly Parton is a national treasure.

  3. She’s amazing. I admire her brains. That’s right. In addition to being intelligent, she has grace.

(I’m not a boob man, so that was never an appeal for me.)

  4. Dana, I have watched DP change from a punchline to a philanthropist. And an exemplar of something I tell myself on campus daily: H8rs gotta H8; don’t let them dict8.

    Thank you for this.

  5. I have it on good account that real dogs do not like wigs, hats, or accoutrements that don’t squeak.

But that said, as usual with Dolly, it’s for a great cause. I would love to send a box of bright red noses to several commenters here as they must be running low after 7 years.

  7. That fashion line reminds me of an incident I observed years ago. A woman with a small dog, both over-dressed for this area, were walking along a popular street. The dog went over to a pole to sniff it, and the woman said to the dog: “Nice girls don’t do that.” I am not making that up.

That said, I agree that Dolly is a wonderful person. And think some of her songs are wonderful, too.

(Oddly, I was just recently listening to one of her less well-known songs: “House of the Rising Sun”. It’s better than the more popular one by the “Animals”, but more of a downer.

I have been been trying to think of songs that are sung by the “wrong” sex in their most popular version, for example, Presley’s “Hound Dog”. I think “House” is another example, though Wikipedia says the question is unsettled.)

  8. Jim, Patsy Cline’s “Crazy” was written by Willie Nelson. His working title for the song was “Stupid.” As in “I’m stupid…for loving you…” It works.

  9. Simon – Thanks.
