Alex Padilla Appointed to the Senate Seat About to be Vacated by Kamala Harris

My record for completely wrong predictions continues unabated, and my 12 to 1 long shot wins it going away:
California Secretary of State Alex Padilla will fill Vice President-elect Kamala Harris’s Senate seat, California Governor Gavin Newsom announced Tuesday.
“Through his tenacity, integrity, smarts and grit, California is gaining a tested fighter in their corner who will be a fierce ally in D.C., lifting up our state’s values and making sure we secure the critical resources to emerge stronger from this pandemic,” Newsom said. “He will be a Senator for all Californians.”
“I am honored and humbled by the trust placed in me by Governor Newsom, and I intend to work each and every day to honor that trust and deliver for all Californians,” Padilla said in a statement.
What exactly are those California values, Governor? Do-as-I-say-not-as-I-do-sim? Over-promising and under-delivering? Exacerbating the gap between rich and poor?
In any case, I think where I went horribly wrong is that I thought Governor Hair-Gel would care about the perception that Secretary of State Padilla had badly botched several key issues under the purview of his office. But seeing as how this is an appointment and not a nomination requiring confirmation, I suppose he had no reason to care. It will be interesting to see how strenuously the black community — especially the female black community — objects to the first black woman Senator from the Golden State being replaced by a Latino male.
Anyway, congratulations to my old buddy Alex. Here’s hoping that he brings his engineer-trained analytical mind to the endless problems we face and doesn’t just vote the way Chuck Schumer and the party apparatus tells him to vote.
