Trump: We’ll Get Things Done In Next Eight Weeks That ‘Nobody Has Even Contemplated or Thought About’

Filed under: General — Dana @ 11:09 am

[guest post by Dana]

President Trump gave a speech yesterday about the administration rolling back environmental regulations. But this portion at the end of his speech is what caught my eye:

We have many exciting things that we’ll be announcing over the next eight weeks I would say. Things that nobody has even contemplated, thought about, thought possible and things that we’re going to get done and we have gotten done. We’ve started in most cases, but it’s going to be a very exciting eight weeks….we can honestly say nobody’s ever going to see eight weeks like we’re going to have, because we really have. We’re taking on immigration, taking on education, we’re taking on so many aspects of things that people were hopelessly tied up in knots in Congress. They’ve been working on some of these things for 25, 30 years, wasn’t happening.

But you’ll see levels of detail and you’ll see levels of thought that a lot of people believed very strongly we didn’t have in this country. We’re going to get things done. We’re going to get things done that they’ve wanted to see done for a long, long time. I think we’ll start sometime on Tuesday. We’ll be discussing our one plan on suburbia, but that’s one of many, many different plans. Then we’re going into the immigration, the world of immigration. The world of education. We’re going into the world of healthcare, very complete healthcare. And we have a lot of very exciting things to discuss, but cutting of regulation has been really something that I felt we could do and we could do fairly easily. Nothing’s easy in this country.

As a reminder, the 2020 election is about 15 weeks away, Trump is down in the polls, and his campaign appears to be struggling to get a foothold, especially as his in-person rallies (the place he and his base really feed off of one another, as well as gin up the most excitement for the president) are on hold. It should be an interesting eight weeks.

  1. Hello.

  3. Unidentified and camoflaged federal agents are rolling up in unmarked vans are rolling up and grabbing people on the street in Portland, so that’s a fun new thing.

And I recall from long ago that one of the definitions of conservative is somebody who sees a fence across a road and instead of tearing it out immediately because it’s in the way, asks whether it serves a purpose.

Trump doesn’t distinguish between useful regulations and useless ones. For him it’s all things keeping his business friends from getting richer and therefore to be torn away.

  4. Some more important information from that speech:

So shower heads, you take a shower, the water doesn’t come out. You wanna wash your hands, the water doesn’t come out… Dishwashers you didn’t have any water… In most places of the country, water is not a problem. They don’t know what do with it. It’s called rain

  5. So the running C19 infection rate is now >1/second in the US, and Stumpy is on about light bulbs.

I guess Jivanka found the Instapundit feed from 2012 or something?

  6. Photographer Catches Topics in Kayleigh McEnany’s Briefing Binder: Goya, Obama, Hate, Golf, Mueller, Lies, LGBT and More
    ……
…….During her tenure, McEnany has developed a reputation for flipping open her briefing book after a particularly confrontational question and reading verbatim from pre-written responses, which often included canned attacks on the press or praise from allies.

In the photo taken at Thursday’s White House briefing, McEnany’s tabs include a number evergreen topics, but several recent ones as well. “Covid” and “Test” as well as “PPE,” “Masks,” “CDC,” and “Cases” suggest a healthy amount of prepared remarks on the raging pandemic. But also included in the binder were more ephemeral topics, like “Goya”…..”Mary” ……and “Hogan,”. ……Also included were notable files on former President Barack “Obama,” as well as subjects used to frequently criticize Trump like “Golf,” “Russia,” “Hate,” and a misspelled “Meuller.”
    ………
Finally, in what appeared to be the last tab, at the bottom of the book, was one labeled “Wins.”

  7. Trump is going to go into so much detail, that his tweets may use close to 280 characters, and they’ll have thoughts in them!

  8. Well, maybe someone should think about it before the next 8 weeks, or maybe during? I’m thinking it will be a typical Trump announcement and 8 weeks from now we’ll say, well, we never saw anyone do such a terrible job in 8 weeks as the last 8 weeks.

Trump will then say, wait for the things we’re going to do for the next 8 weeks…

  11. john,

Trump did mention aspects of the virus/healthcare in the speech:

Medicine, accelerating the delivery of life-saving treatments and ensuring that we will have a vaccine in a record time. We’re doing fantastically well on that. That will be for another time, another meeting, but we are doing on therapeutics and vaccines incredibly well. No administration in history has removed more red tape more quickly to rescue the economy and to protect the health of our people. When you think of it, we are all set up, that as we get the vaccine or therapeutic, and we’re set up militarily, we’re going to be delivering it in record time. It’s all set to move. We put an investment upfront and we have logistical people, generals, great people. They’re going to be delivering this all over the country as soon as we have it and we’ve made tremendous progress, you’ve been reading about it.

    Donald Trump: (10:36)
In total we’ve taken more than 740 actions to suspend regulations that would have slowed our response to the China virus. This includes lifting restrictions on manufacturers so that our great auto workers could produce more than 100,000 ventilators so we’ve done over 100,000 in 100 days. Think of that, and we didn’t have ventilators, we weren’t set up for ventilators. We became a country that’s making a lot of them. Helping so many others. Countries that are never going to be in a position to make them. They’re complex, they’re expensive, they’re big. Very, very, very tough to do and we’ve saved a lot of lives. There’s never been a person in our country, even though we started with almost nothing, I say the cupboard was bare when we took over, we started with nothing. There’s never been a person in our country, even though we had just absolutely … We were going on empty, never been one person that needed a ventilator that didn’t get it. Think of that. Not one person, as complex as they are, as big, as expensive. Take a long time to get them done. Not one person has ever needed a ventilator that didn’t get it. We made telemedicine, thank you. Great job. Great … Really a great job. The people here, they get no credit for it. I don’t want any credit, they should get it.

He was followed by a nurse practitioner form rural W. Virginia, who gave high praise for advances in telemedicine during the pandemic.

Be sure you drop your rifle on the ground, not your foot; a lot can happen in eight weeks– even six:

  16. Whatever is done, is better done between now and November than between November and next January. Be upfront about it, and let people decide. Don’t wait and take “sore loser” action — or “nyah, nyah, I’m invincible” actions, either. Do what wants doing and take the voters’ rebuke or reward.

  23. They’re probably going to do something in that regard too. But Republicans don;t want peple getting more from unemployment than they got whn they were working.

It’s not a disincentive as lonng as the money given is not conditional on anything,

I don;t think they understand the impending insolvencies.

  24. That will be for another time, another meeting, but we are doing on therapeutics and vaccines incredibly well.

    This is actually true.

No administration in history has removed more red tape more quickly to rescue the economy and to protect the health of our people.

But not enough. When it came to coronovirus testing, they tried to remove just the minimum. So when demand shot up, we got 7-10 day delays in getting the results.

    Sammy Finkelman (8ac22c)

  25. Press conferences and announcement are not action. Executive orders that don’t pass the judicial laugh test are not action. They’re masturbation. Action would be to get bills written and pushed through Congress. But then he doesn’t know how to do that.

  29. IHME models show second wave of COVID-19 beginning September 15 in US (June 11, 2020)

The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) has extended its US COVID-19 forecasts through October 1. The forecast shows 169,890 deaths in the US by October 1, with a possible range between 133,201 and 290,222. Deaths nationwide are predicted to remain fairly level through August and begin to rise again in the fourth week of August with a more pronounced increase during September, although some states will see the increase earlier due to increased mobility and relaxation of social distancing mandates.

…….. Deaths nationwide are predicted to remain fairly level through August and begin to rise again in the fourth week of August with a more pronounced increase during September, although some states will see the increase earlier due to increased mobility and relaxation of social distancing mandates.

“We’re now able to look ahead and see where states need to begin planning for a second wave of COVID-19,” said IHME Director Dr. Christopher Murray. “We hope to see our model proven wrong by the swift actions governments and individuals take to reduce transmission.”
    ……..
Just about eight weeks from now.

    Rip Murdock (b30750)

  30. In the part of Trump’s speech quoted above, he says “immigration” three times. I suspect he is planning an about-face on the dreamers (illegals who were brought to the U.S. as children).

Before, Trump wanted to end Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), and claimed that Obama did an unconstitutional thing by creating DACA to protect the dreamers. Now Trump will likely issue a new executive order granting dreamers a pathway to citizenship. In other words, he’s going to grant an even bigger benefit than Obama did, and do something that is even more unconstitutional.

(Sidenote: I personally support granting lawful permanent resident [LPR] status to dreamers, as long as it is done legislatively. You know, the way the Constitution prescribes. LPR status means having a green card, which would allow them to legally live and work in the U.S. for life. They should be barred from U.S. citizenship, however, because as citizens they could petition for their illegal parents who brought them to the U.S. in the first place. This seems like a reasonable middle ground. They are no longer illegal, but they can’t make their parents–who knew what they were doing when they entered illegally–legal.)

I can’t wait to see how Trump supporters defend him when this takes place. It should be a Trump-jumping-the-shark moment for them, but his supporters seem to defend him no matter what.

It’s like a guy who’s in love with a bad woman. Everybody can see it. His friends point out her heinousness, and tell him to dump her. Deep down he knows things aren’t right, but he just can’t bring himself to quit her.

    How to Immigration Policy

  32. You did what the court did just a few weeks ago, anne gorsuch of what her son has wrought. There isnt much room to maneuver, judge hanen was able to staunch the malfeasance at the 5th circuit.

    Narciso (7404b5)

  33. That’s a funny clip, Dave!

    norcal (a5428a)

  34. It might be a landslide clincher rather than a base deflator; DACA would have remained DOA had looters and opportunistic criminals not made forays into areas like Cicero, 26th St and further SW toward Midway after Mayor BugEyes locked the bridges into the Loop and North Michigan Ave. And the silent majority of summer 2020 is far more scared of BLM and Antifa than of MS-13 and ISIS.

    urbanleftbehind (f01bca)

  35. They’re masturbation. Action would be to get bills written and pushed through Congress. But then he doesn’t know how to do that.

There is not even much time to do that. Congress is going to be in recess for most of August.

    Kishnevi (0ec3f1)

  36. I agree that many people are more scared of BLM right now.

However, for those who love Trump because he’s tough on immigration, how can they not be deflated, and how can they not see that this would be even more unconstitutional than what Obama did?

    norcal (a5428a)

    So will Trump.

  42. So will Trump.

    How about a friendly wager?

    Say $5000?

    Dave (1bb933)

  43. Of course. The same Donald Trump that leads the outrage over removal of Confederate statues/flags has responded with removing the White House portraits of George W. Bush as well as Bill Clinton and, according to CNN, placed them in the nearly invisible Old Family Dining Room.

When they paint Trump’s likeness for the White House, it should not exceed the size of the Mona Lisa. Realism.

You want realism? Dubya’s got it covered.

Realism would call for a poster of Daisy Duck in a KGB uniform.

  46. Good ones Dave and nk.

You have me thinking. Could Biden intervene like Trump has? Commission George W. Bush to paint Trump’s official portrait? With a dunce cap which we know looks eerily close to a KKK hood.
