A beautiful offering of hope to a hurting America:

You can read Trump’s predictably self-centered response here.

  1. The words, the pace of the video, the stunning photographs, and the warm twang of Bush all add up to an eloquent breath of fresh air.

  2. “We are not partisan combatants, we are human beings, equally vulnerable and equally wonderful in the sight of God.”

    Damn straight.

  3. 43 remains the only POTUS I would like to know personally.

Meanwhile, I made the mistake of scrolling down Trump’s tweets

  4. In these times, I miss Bush. Sixteen Stone was the best of the post-grunge movement. Totally meaningless lyrics, but Pearl Jam went political, Nirvana went…away, Chris Cornell went deep, Alice in Chains followed Kurt Cobain into the needle, and the others just faded away. The Foo Fighters didn’t yet exist and along came Matchbox Twenty and Creed, eww.

So Bush, yeah I miss ’em, had tickets to a show next month, cancelled now.

Oh, we were talking about the other Bush? Yeah, that guy too.

  5. Reminiscent of a time when presidents truly were presidential. Makes the sting of living in the hyperpartisan tribalism of today burn so much more.

  6. Seems like only yesterday liberals were comparing him to Hitler, posting hundreds of pics likening him to an ape, and calling his administration a ‘regime’.

  7. This is a good message. Bush has some idea about being Presidential.

Trump’s answer to it made it about him and grievances. To the Trump supporters out there. Is this what you really want? If so, why?

    Appalled (d6f434)

  8. It’s bittersweet to recall what it was like to have a president with honesty, humility, empathy and fundamental decency.

  9. Seems like only yesterday liberals were comparing him to Hitler, posting hundreds of pics likening him to an ape, and calling his administration a ‘regime’.

And he did not respond to their hatefulness with more hatefulness.

    Dave (1bb933)

  10. “ And he did not respond to their hatefulness with more hatefulness”

And yet Dems, the media and other liberals kept bringing the hate, until he left office and it was finally time to use him as an example of the good ol’ days (unless Obama wanted to blame him for something), to compare to the next Hitler.

But watch out, Ellen may sit next to him at a sports event and smile with him, then it’s time to bust out the hate engine again.

  11. And yet Dems, the media and other liberals kept bringing the hate

Who kept bringing the hate? Same guys who say Obama was really Kenyan are saying Bush blew up the world trade center. They are saying it today. Just read the Trump fans praising Trump’s ugly response to Bush.

If you only look at the bad things ‘dems, media, other liberals’ do you’ll wind up thinking the exact opposite of Bush’s message.

“We are not partisan combatants, we are human beings, equally vulnerable and equally wonderful in the sight of God.”

Don’t let them use you. Selectively paying attention only to the worst of one side is manipulative. Bush is right. He wasn’t always right but he usually is.

    Dustin (e5f6c3)

  12. The tone and content of Mr. Bush’s message deserve to be welcomed.

  13. Trump is so nekulturny is hurts. This is particularly poor form, even for him.

    Kevin M (ab1c11)

  14. Seems like only yesterday liberals were comparing him to Hitler

Mostly the knuckledraggers of the Left, who may be dumber than Trump’s minions. Or maybe not.

Google has 17,100,000 hits for “Bush Hitler” and 17,500,000 for “Obama Hitler”. Admittedly there are 45 million hits for “Trump Hitler.”

  15. #13

Since I went “huh” with your comment. others might as well. From the urban dictionary

    nekulturny

Russian pejorative term. Literally means uncultured, but has connotations of white trash, chav, or naco.

Ivan, you nekulturny bastard, don’t pick your nose in public!

I don’t think the word is strong enough, here.

    Appalled (1a17de)

  16. It’s actually a pretty serious insult to a Russian, from what I understand.

    Dave (1bb933)

  17. i dunno

mr. president donald trump, who only fondles himself while thinking of Roy Cohn in months with an “r” in them, may have a point

(if not the one he thinks he has)

maybe mr. president george walker bush should have spoken up during the impeachment

maybe he should have said “impeach the mother-figure”

    nk (1d9030)

  18. nk, I’m not sure why Trump thinks partisanship was his enemy in that vote

    Dustin (e5f6c3)

  19. nk, I’m not sure why Trump thinks partisanship was his enemy in that vote

It was. Also his friend. THey had charges that would resonate with the public (frigging incompetent buffoon, imbecile, clear and present danger, etc). But they saw him as a sure target in November and didn’t want to actually drive him from office.

  20. Dubya who’s donors bought the 2000 republican and tried to buy the 2016 election for jebbie have been rejected by 90% of the republican party. Go away dubya crawl back under your rock. The blood of thousands of americans are on your hands.

  22. …or thrown a shoe at him (#17).

  23. 50th anniversary of kent state shootings today. This was the day the people who run this country told nixon enough! You don’t be shooting our sons and daughters.

  24. Boosh and his family of hypocrites should keep quiet. They have done enough damage to American families.

    mg (8cbc69)

  25. Bush has the audacity to call for a unified response to a pandemic and, of course, Donald Trump has to attack him for it. President Trump later criticized Obama as he staged a town hall in front of the Lincoln’s chair at the Memorial. Come the Fourth of July, he heads to Mount Rushmore for more self-promotion in front of Lincoln.

    noel (4d3313)

  26. You have to understand that ego. If Lincoln were alive today, our President would treat him like the Prime Minister of Montenegro who was in the way during a camera shoot.

    noel (4d3313)

  27. Sure, sure, but could Lincoln, Bush and Obama say “Hey, sailor, looking for a good time?” in Russian and Turkish?

    nk (1d9030)

  28. I remember thing when W was inaugurated how wonderful it was to have an adult in the WH again.

    Ragspierre (d9bec9)

  29. George W Bush may not have been a perfect President but I always thought he had everyone’s best interest at heart. He loves this country and it’s citizens. Love… maybe that’s really what’s in short supply in this current Administration. “Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth.” 1 Corinthians.

I would never say that God cannot appoint or make use of any US President. There may be a reason for all of this. But I will be voting for Biden because there is nothing from that Biblical quote existing in this Trump Administration.

Yes, I know he appoints pro-life judges. He is also, intentionally or not, exposing a racist cancer in our country. In the end, we may be better off for having someone who did both of those things. God knows.

    noel (4d3313)

  30. Great comment, noel. I don’t know who I will vote for but I completely agree with your Biblical thoughts.

    DRJ (15874d)

  31. Yes, I know he appoints pro-life judges. He is also, intentionally or not, exposing a racist cancer in our country

The biggest long-term problem with the Trump presidency is that it shackles any good policy choices he might make to the conspicuous horribleness of his character and persona. He has made it very much harder to make the case that conservatism, or the GOP, is not fundamentally selfish, heartless, nasty, dishonest, hypocritical, ignorant and stupid.

Especially when so many Republicans are so zealous in defending him — or even mimicking him.

  32. Donald J. Trump
    @realDonaldTrump
“Concast” should open up a long overdue Florida Cold Case against Psycho Joe Scarborough. I know him and Crazy Mika well, used them beautifully in the last Election, dumped them nicely, and will state on the record that he is “nuts”. Besides, bad ratings!

He had nothing going on. All the time in the world, just growing on his hands. So he turns to the really important stuff…

    Ragspierre (d9bec9)

  33. used them beautifully in the last Election, dumped them nicely,

So he’s publicly admitting that he uses people and then dumps them when their usefulness to him is done. And he doesn’t even understand that there might be anything wrong with that.

It’s perplexing how Trump defenders fail to see his unabashedly self-referential ethical code, but instead dismiss it all as mere “style” with no bearing on how he makes decisions that affect other people.
