    @sahilkapur
This week the Republican-led Senate confirmed 13 new federal judges, bringing Donald Trump’s total to 144.

    —99 district judges
    —43 circuit judges
    —2 Supreme Court justices

    An extraordinary pace.

All lifetime appointments, nearly all of them are in their 30s, 40s or 50s.

What is the Ashbrook guy talking about? The piece was from Russia Beyond, a Putin propaganda mill, not the DDID. A McConnell hack literally made s**t up.
But maybe McConnell really is Moscow Mitch, given that a once sanctioned Russian company is buying into a new aluminum plant in the Senator’s home state.

Braidy Industries, which is developing a new Kentucky aluminum mill partially backed by the Russian aluminum giant Rusal, has hired a firm with ties to Sen. Mitch McConnell (r-Ky.) to give the project a public relations boost as Democrats raise concerns about the initiative.
The firm, RunSwitch PR, was co-founded in 2012 by Scott Jennings — a former McConnell aide and CNN political commentator who ran a super PAC in support of the Senate Majority Leader called Kentuckians for Strong Leadership. Braidy hired RunSwitch in July “following recommendations from fellow business leaders naming them the best statewide media relations agency,” a Braidy spokesman said.

  7. John Noonan
    @noonanjon
Mitch McConnell has steadily supported a host of measures that Russia opposes — INF withdrawal, Syria intervention, military buildup, nuclear modernization, Magnitsky Act, and voted against New START.

But an aluminum mill in-state is a smoking gun. Ok.”

  8. Worst of the recent Democratic debates were the questions. Samples of things a real journalist or useful moderator might have asked, but didn’t:

The “Black Lives Matter” movement opposes the concept of “Broken Windows Policing”, in which resources are focused into high-crime areas and even minor violations result in arrest. How would progressives revise, extend, or reverse “Broken Window” policies to meet BLM goals?

State and city law enforcement officials videotape interviews and interrogations with witness and suspects, but federal officials, notably FBI agents, do not. Do progressives support current policy and if not what would you propose instead?

With regard to global warming, do progressives believe carbon dioxide poses a bigger threat to the environment than electrical generator’s production of nuclear waste?

With regard to improving children’s education, why are progressives favoring and conserving the traditional public school model while opposing experiments with charter schools, voucher programs, parochial schools, on-line classrooms, and other ways of providing parental choices?

  9. So the DDID carried the “Russia Beyond” broadsheet until 2015 (the propaganda that Ashbrook cited was December 2015), after Putin invaded Crimea but before Putin’s “sweeping and systematic” meddling efforts in the 2016 election, and the WSJ and NYT carried them at least into 2018, and they identified as an advertising feature under the masthead.
That said, no newspaper should take money for an insert that is bought and paid for by the Kremlin.

  10. My guess is that Trump doesn’t understand that a blockade is literally an act of war.

Donald Trump is serious about a possible U.S. blockade of Venezuela, a senior administration official said Friday, saying that the country’s president Nicolas Maduro has a short window to voluntarily leave power.
Trump told reporters on Thursday that he was considering a blockade or quarantine of the Latin American country, where the U.S. has been trying for months to unseat Maduro. He didn’t elaborate.
But the official said Trump’s statement should be taken seriously and is the direction U.S. policy is headed with regard to Venezuela. The official asked not to be identified as a condition of participation in a briefing for reporters.

I’m not sure that beating the drums of war is such a great idea for a country already in freefall.

  11. He never learns does he, I think the new republic under Michael straight from the 40s to the early 60s was more obviously a Soviet mouthpiece but strobe talbott at time repeated tths brezhnev andropov line so did sid blumental at the post Robert scheer at the dog trainer

  12. Nick miroff is the son in law of the late Cuban spymaster camilo pineiro, and he covered Venezuela with a pillow and now mexico

  13. Active shooter in El Paso Walmart.

Fox News repots 18 shot; a weekend host suggests this has become so ‘common place’ – “shoppers” should consider taking courses to deal with such situations.

So says the ‘network’ of and for idiots.

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  14. @15 postscript; network of the stupid labels mass shootings “a fad.” You know, like the hula-hoop.

    Idiots.

  15. Early reports always wrong, but CNN is reporting there are multiple suspects in custody.

  18. Don’t believe the lamestream FakeNews media: Mitch was pushed! That’s what happens to all kinds of people in Putin’s sphere who don’t toe his line!

  19. It would have been interesting to ask Andrew Yang if he sided with the people of Hing Kong or the government of China.

Trump’s position by the way: You’re n your own. You better be careful. That’s not one of complaints against China.

Yet Pompeo fired a woman who wanted to write a policy guide for China like Kennan on Russia in 1947 that would have said it’s a different culture, unlike Russia, and they don’t care about democracy.

    Sammy Finkelman (385c0e)

  20. heh, nk.

    mg (8cbc69)

  21. First time in history? What about the Modlem connquest, or for that matter the Visigoths, and then there were Roman times and before.

    Sammy Finkelman (d542b2)

  22. Trump may not care about liberty in Hog Kong bit nevertheless he’s causing problems for China over this.

The Hong Kong disturbances (and fear that China could take over) are probably responsible for more money feeling out of yuans, and that could cause Trump to impose higher tariffs. Trump just now declared China a cxurerency manipulator. China probably almost had no choice – they ahve to hang on to dollars.

    Sammy Finkelman (d542b2)

  23. Great, nk at #24, now there’s going to be 1 MILLIONTH version of “Old Town Road” 🙁

  24. Another Trump appointee joins Nikki Haley in leaving on his own terms with dignity and credibility intact. I don’t know how Huntsman did it, especially with a job of US Ambassador to Russia, but it was probably by keeping his head way down and not talking to anyone outside his office. I swear, the only time I heard about him was when he was appointed and today when he announced his departure.
It was too bad about him doing so poorly as a candidate in 2012. He was the most conservative of the Mormon candidates who ran for president that year. He would’ve been a good president, better than Romney and way better than Obama, but my party was too bats**t crazy to even consider him.

    Paul Montagu (35419a)

  25. This is interesting on a couple of fronts. One, his ex-girlfriend said he was mentally ill. Two, he actually had a girlfriend, sort of.
