Law & Crime: Jeffrey Epstein Child Sex Trafficking Indictment Unsealed — Here’s What We Know.

Link on Scribd:

Count One (sex Trafficking Conspiracy) alleges Epstein created and paid a “network of underage victims” that he sexually abused in Manhattan and Palm Beach from 2002-2005. Count Two (Sex Trafficking) alleges the same conduct and at least one victim who was “caused to engage in at least one commercial sex act in Manhattan.”

It appears the Indictment seeks forfeiture of Epstein’s NYC residence.

  1. I bet they don’t use the forfeiture to help the victims.

  2. It would have been better if the Supremes decided that Trump’s question in the questionnaire violated the Enumerated Powers Clause (link). He and his lawyers would’ve had no place to go after that.

  3. Dammit, comment in wrong thread.
It remains that it is Trump’s Labor Secretary who gave Epstein his sweetheart deal.

  6. 3… as it remains that Robert Mueller led the FBI when this Epstein sh*theel got his slap on the wrist.

  7. I’ll bet you a curving to the left roll of quarters it doesn’t. But it should, mg.

  8. 6 – Because the FBI signs off on any plea bargain a US attorney offers.

    Oh wait, they don’t.

    Dave (1bb933)

  9. Maybe the republicans could try a break-in to the Clinton library?

    mg (8cbc69)

  10. Labor Secretary Acosta was the US Attorney in Miami, in charge of that office when he approved Epstein’s sweetheart deal, and he was involved in the case.

According to the Miami Herald, Acosta met privately with one of Epstein’s lawyers, Jay Lefkowitz — a former colleague in D.C. — and gave Epstein’s legal team a bizarre amount of control over the plea deal’s terms. (Other Epstein lawyers included Alan Dershowitz and Kenneth Starr.) “Thank you for the commitment you made to me,” Lefkowitz wrote to Acosta after their meeting, referring to Acosta’s promise that he would not contact “any of the identified individuals, potential witnesses or potential civil claimants.” The deal was kept secret until it was finalized.

Trump could have avoided all this by living up to his pledge of picking the “very best people” to his administration.
At SDNY, Geoffrey Berman is a Trump appointee who is in charge of the Manhattan office. Mr. Berman hand-picked Laura Birger to run the Criminal Division.

    Paul Montagu (fc91e5)

  11. And he was undercut by khuzaimi the hack from the sec, who strenuously avoided going after subprime criminals

    Narciso (23765c)

  12. I’m a bit confused – aren’t these charges, which refer to things done in 2002-05, the same ones disposed of by the sweetheart plea deal?

    I confess I haven’t followed this repugnant story closely…

    Dave (1bb933)

  13. No different ones supposedly, double jeopardy isnt a thing any more.

    Narciso (23765c)

  14. With moron Comey being the judge of this and all things Trump in New York, this will be another witch hunt into Trump and not Clinton.
These puke judges make me sick. At some point in time these ingrates will pay a price.

    mg (8cbc69)

  15. 8… the FBI investigates, makes the case and the referral. A strong case couldn’t be pled away, at least in theory.

    But you should know that…

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  16. With moron Comey being the judge of this and all things Trump in New York, this will be another witch hunt into Trump and not Clinton.
These puke judges make me sick. At some point in time these ingrates will pay a price.

What are you going on about? The judge is Kenneth Marra (see end of the article)

do you mean that Marueen Comey is a prosecutor on the case? I’m not a lawyer but my understanding is that an assistant US attorney would be an important member of the persecution but wouldn’t be the person in charge of the prosecution. Also, the SDNY is run by a Trump appointee. So can we assume that the person in charge isn’t out to get Trump?

I’m with you that I don’t want this to be a witch hunt into Trump. I want it to be an investigation into potentially horrible crimes. I’d also like to know why he got such a easy plea deal and why 4 un-indicted co-conspirators were granted immunity. If the 4 are young women who were involved into luring other young women into this than I suppose I could get my head around that. maybe, But I’d sure like to know why the US government went easy on a child rapist and people that helped him.

    But you should know that…

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0) — 7/8/2019 @ 8:54 am

There’s some evidence being presented in the press (FWIW) that makes the plea deal look shady.

    Time123 (797615)

  18. A strong case couldn’t be pled away, at least in theory.

Ted Kennedy, Imran Awan and Jussie Smollett were unavailable for comment.

    Dave (1bb933)

  19. I can’t tell if the plea deal is still valid. If it is, it is a guess but this indictment may be based on things that happened in NY that weren’t included in the prior case.

    DRJ (15874d)

  20. …it remains that Robert Mueller led the FBI when this Epstein sh*theel got his slap on the wrist.

True, but non-sequitur. The FBI didn’t negotiate the sweetheart deal. They assembled the case and handed it over to the US Attorney for prosecution, which Mr. Acosta was in charge of. The FBI couldn’t have approved the deal because the agreement “essentially shut down an ongoing FBI probe into whether there were more victims and other powerful people who took part in Epstein’s sex crimes.” Also this:

Mike Fisten, a former Miami-Dade police sergeant who was also a homicide investigator and a member of the FBI Organized Crime Task Force, said the FBI had enough evidence to put Epstein away for a long time but was overruled by Acosta. Some of the agents involved in the case were disappointed by Acosta’s bowing to pressure from Epstein’s lawyers, he said.

    The “very best people”.

    Paul Montagu (fc91e5)

  21. And he was undercut by khuzaimi the hack from the sec…

Leaving aside “undercut” and “hack from the sec”, Khuzami was hand-picked by US Attorney Berman, who was hand-picked by Trump.

    Paul Montagu (fc91e5)

  22. He didnt do this on his own volition, read the email communications up and down the line.

    Narciso (23765c)

  23. …read the email communications up and down the line.

You should read an org chart. The buck stopped with Acosta in Miami, and it stops with Berman in NY.

    Paul Montagu (fc91e5)

  24. You should read an org chart. The buck stopped with Acosta in Miami, and it stops with Berman in NY.

In TrumpWorld, when an org chart conflicts with the narrative, guess which one wins?

  26. Like they say in Haiti, c’est fini.

He’s a “terrific guy”, so a presidential pardon would appear to be in order.

    There’s also Epstein’s 2010 deposition:

“Q. Have you ever socialized with Donald Trump in the presence of females under the age of 18?”
“A: Though I’d like to answer that question, at least today I’m going to have to assert my Fifth, Sixth, and 14th Amendment rights, sir.”

(Trump has previously bragged about barging into dressing rooms uninvited to peep at naked girls as young as 15.)

    Dave (1bb933)

  27. Ann Coulter has been incredible and far ahead of the curve on the Epstein Scandal. As you states, this is was the elite circling the wagons for one of their own. Ken Starr and Bill Clinton were involved. Nice someone finally did something about it.

  28. and czernovich did the foia request as well, I guess rowan farrow was busy on other matters, what happened with Weinstein anyways,

  29. Not to be outdone, the EDNY subpoenas the Trump inaugural committee for information on another member of Trump’s extended crime family, who’s under investigation for illegal influence-peddling.

This guy, Trump friend and inaugural mega-fundraiser Eliott Broidy, is the same one who last year admitted to having an extra-marital affair with a Playboy model and paying her $1.6M to have an abortion and keep quiet after he impregnated her.

    Dave (1bb933)

  30. 20… Mike should’ve given Epstein a Fisten while he had a chance…

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  31. that was pursuant to a Qatari hack, that involved 1200 persons, as I understand it, the police handed the case over to krischer who also failed to indict,

  32. The previous plea deal was for Epstein’s Florida crimes. This one is for his New York crimes.

    Or only the good ones?

  35. 16 – yes , I stand corrected, comey is the prosecutor.
Know what you call a prosecutor that doesn’t follow the law?
    A judge.

    Colonel Haiku (0e0056)

  46. This morning I noted that Bill Clinton has sent “best selling author” James Patterson out to block and diffuse any allegations/evidence that Bill Clinton had any idea what Epstein was up to. When asked, Patterson said “no, Clinton knew nothing about it”. When the talk turned to Matt Lauer, Patterson actually said something along the lines of “no, people knew nothing about that. These things are so horrible that people just don’t hear or know anything about it.”

What bullschiff, all the NBC people knew about Lauer. Just like all of Hollywood knew what Weinstein was all about. And the same holds true for Clinton.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  47. The statement issued on behalf of Bill Clinton (in the third person) claimed he (at present) knows nothing about Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes. But that cannot be. Now he can claim he had no personal independent knowledge at the time, but he can’t claim he didn’t read the newspapers. This also amounts to a claim he never heard hearsay.

Bill Clinton did not deny that Jeffrey Epstein found him girlfriends. His denial is not worded that way. It;s limited to crimes.

Now Jeffrey Epstein probably did this mostly for himself, and if for any others, only when they wanted him to, and there probably were not too many of them – at least those who wanted girls under 18. So I don’t believe large numbers of other men were involved in his pedophile activities.

    Sammy Finkelman (83cfe1)

  48. guess who was the epstein byline, the enterprising miss watkins, back from the gulag I see, there is a question as to what whether his many crimes, were just a function to secure clients, which came by invitation like bernie madoff,

    narciso (d1f714)

  49. in light of the fact, that main justice was pushing for that deal, that he had a swarm of attorneys forcing it, that the da in palm beach had also passed on it, realistically what could Acosta do,

    narciso (d1f714)

  50. If Main Justice was pushing for it, then Acosta is a scapegoat, and whatever corruption existed, existed at Main Justice. and disinformation was leaked.

Attorneys can make deals – not just in one case, but covering a bundle of cases. This is one thing conflict of interest rules don’t take into account. The prosecution gets something they want very much and the defense lawyers get something they want very much.

And then there is the fact that some attorneys at DOJ might be looking to see what law firms they might join. Jeffrey Epstein was in a position to pay lawyers a lot of money and give them a lot of business of all kinds. If his lawyers delay things they can wait until someone they can make a deal with is in the right position.

Something peculiar went on here with the Epstein plea bargain in 2008, but we shouldn’t accept any explanations or partial explanation that are being spoonfed to us.

    Sammy Finkelman (e0f80a)

  51. 51… several years ago, Epstein was at a club at Mar-A-Lago and was “bothering” some of the young women there. The female club manager saw what was transpiring and told Trump about it. Trump had him removed from the club.

    Colonel Haiku (0e0056)

  52. 54
Trump never likes people who compete against him.

    Kishnevi (65f98d)

  53. The source for the “Mar-a-Lago banned Epstein” talking point is here: https://pagesix.com/2007/10/15/sex-case-victims-lining-up/

Meanwhile, the Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach last night confirmed a Web site report that Epstein has been banned there. “He would use the spa to try to procure girls. But one of them, a masseuse about 18 years old, he tried to get her to do things,” a source told us. “Her father found out about it and went absolutely ape-[bleep]. Epstein’s not allowed back.” Epstein denies he is banned from Mar-a-Lago and says, in fact, he was recently invited to an event there.

The last sentence is, for some mysterious reason, omitted by the right wing media pushing it.

Very mysterious indeed, given that Esptein is a credible source.

    Munroe (95befa)

  56. “Very mysterious indeed, given that Esptein is a credible source.”

Mar-a-Lago – “We totally banned that sex pest who was procuring girls in our spa.
A competent interviewer – “Oh, well done. You reported this to the police?”
Mar-a-Lago – “Of course not. Also we didn’t ban him for procuring, but because he sexually harassed one of our masseuses. We didn’t get the police involved in that either.”

    Davethulhu (fab944)

  57. Very mysterious indeed, given that Esptein is a credible source.

While in general that would be correct, the Maralago verdion is that of a Trump employee (albeit well down the ladder) with a vested interest in protecting Maralago’s reputation. Perhaps you noticed that he said the girl was “about 18 years”, as if not knowing whether or not Maralago employed juveniles in that position. (Probably legal to do so, but…)

    Kishnevi (2f2613)

  58. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/bill-clinton-not-telling-truth-epstein-investigative-journalist

Clinton, meanwhile, said in a statement that he “knows nothing” about the “terrible crimes,” insisting that he took “a total of four trips on Jeffrey Epstein’s airplane” in 2002 and 2003 – while his Secret Service detail traveled with him at all times – and that he had only brief meetings with Epstein.

But [Conchita] Sarnoff, who first broke the Epstein story back in 2010, says the figure isn’t accurate, claiming that Clinton was a guest on Epstein’s planes many more times over a longer period.

“I know from the pilot logs and these are pilot logs that you know were written by different pilots and at different times that Clinton went, he was a guest of Epstein’s 27 times,” she said, adding that “many of those times Clinton had his Secret Service with him and many times he did not.”

    Sammy Finkelman (e0f80a)

  59. It probably depends on the meaning of “Jeffrey Epstein’s airplane.”

    Sammy Finkelman (e0f80a)

  60. I couldn’t find any profile on him, before 2001, Forbes fortune the journal, that’s odd for a successful hedge fund manager reputedly

    Narciso (23765c)

  61. While I do think the SDNY – and apparently NEVERTRUMP and many lefties here – are hoping that this Epstein biz can somehow be used to go after the POTUS, and they don’t care if Bill Clinton and assorted Democrats are kicked to the curb, it ain’t gonna happen.
