Right-wing Jesus School Stomps Hip & Progressive California Flagship University

Can’t help but chortle at Liberty University’s (hello Reverend Falwell!) big win over UCLA in men’s basketball the other day. Preseason ranking for UCLA: 24. Preseason ranking for Liberty: 215. It got the UCLA coach fired.

I know we have readers and commenters with UCLA backgrounds. This isn’t meant to be a knock against you (though your alma mater did sell its soul to the Ball family three years ago). I am just enjoying the fact that a school which the majority of the people of the Golden State no doubt look down upon just whipped ass on the most storied program in NCAA basketball.

  1. on the most storied program in NCAA basketball.

Not even close since Wooden left in 1975. Kansas, Duke, Kentucky, are historically better. Heck, Connecticut, Florida, maybe even Butler, have been better for the last 20 years.

  2. The Ball family has deflated the program.

  3. The Greeks have a superstition that what you do on New Year’s Day, you will do the whole rest of the year. So I made sure I have turkey, ham, meatloaf, mashed potatoes, sliced potatoes, two kinds of bread, chocolate layer cake, Coconut Dreams (Keebler’s name for the Girl Scouts’ Samoans), Hershey’s milk chocolate, apples and oranges, and a bunch of Inspector Maigret books.

Now, the question is, should I make a snarky comment about the American mania with watching half-naked young men fool around with a big ball for two hours trying to put it through a small hoop as often as possible?

  5. Great game in 1968 when The Big E and the Cougars upset Lew Alcindor and the Bruins. the Bruins threw the ball out of bounds near the end that clinched it for the Cougars. I remember The Big E blocking 3 or 4 shots by Alcindor, something no one probably did again.

  6. 3. It could be worse. This could be South Korea and all those young men could be obsessed with Esports.

Great! I’ll be watching the Rose Bowl, drinking beer and eating sushi. 2019 will be awesome!
