Trump Settles Trump U. Lawsuit for $25 Million

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 5:28 pm

It’s the right thing to do, and also the exact opposite of what he said he would do.

It would have been a huge distraction and embarrassment for him. Trump U. was a con job. He is right to cut his losses.

  1. Maybe it didn’t happen, since it was reported in the New York Times and Washington Post along with multiple other sources.

Let me know if Jim Hoft, the gold standard for accuracy, reports it.

  2. yes, he should have done it earlier, he settled other lawsuits in 1999, before his previous run, and 2007, so we’ll have to look for another route to impeachment,

  3. Loose end.
    Smart move.
    Move forward.
    Press on.

  5. it’s the danegeld one has to pay, you know how it goes, the largest portion goes to plaintiff’s lawyers, who kick it back to schneiderman and other parties,

  6. Wonder what’s going on with the women who say Trump assaulted them? Haven’t seen anything on them lately. That one might be harder, if any of them are suing, to just settle with.

  7. Maybe $2500 apiece after the lawyers take their cut. I guess no one wanted to stick around and see how this went against a sitting President.

    Bill stonewalled them. Some forever.

  9. @Kevin M:Bill stonewalled them. Some forever.

All I could find on them since the election is a blog wondering what happened to them.

  10. “THE NARRATIVE DEMANDS DISARRAY, THEREFORE DISARRAY SHALL BE REPORTED:

On that precise point, the New York Times, in a widely circulated article, will describe this day at Trump Tower as a scene of “disarray” for the transition team. In fact, it’s all hands on: Mike Pence, the vice president-elect and transition chief, and Reince Priebus, the new chief of staff, shuttling between full conference rooms; Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and by many accounts his closest advisor, conferring in the halls; Sen. Jeff Sessions in and out of meetings on the transition team floor; Rudy Giuliani upstairs with Trump (overheard: “Is the boss meeting-meeting with Rudy or just shooting the shit?”), and Bannon with a long line of men and women outside his corner office. If this is disarray, it’s a peculiarly focused and organized kind.”

  12. i’m reminded of that josh green Bloomberg piece, that ‘quoted’ parscale, remember, saying his metrics were much the same as silver’s, how accurate did that turn out to be,

  13. Trump U was an OK con, but here comes the biggest con in history. $25m is chump change compared to what he will walk off with.

  15. ugh it’s not fair

Trump U’s the ethical gold standard compared to sleazy bloated over-priced freedom-hating daycare “schools” like harvard

  16. I’m with happy feet, besides there are actually people that didn’t like trump that thought the trump U class was actually a top notch seminar. Danegeld for trial attorney’s.

    Really? Who?

The fact is that he personally recorded video advertisements that he knew to be false, and that people relied on when they parted with their money.

He was also personally on notice from the state of NY that he could not operate from that state, and told the state he had moved his operations out of the state, when in fact he hadn’t.

  18. Approximately 10,000 graduates of Trump University were thrilled with the program and said so in writing. But a law firm that paid Hillary and Bill Clinton $675,000 for three speeches managed to find a handful of disgruntled students to be the named plaintiffs in a class-action lawsuit against it.

Yes, Eric Schneiderman is certainly praiseworthy.

They said so in writing before they had learned anything. They were pressured to fill in the evaluations on the first day. Find someone who went through it and actually thought it was “a top notch seminar”.

What does Schneiderman have to do with it? It was the New York State Education Department that notified Trump in 2005 that he was breaking the law by using the name “university” when it was not one. He said he would move the operations out of the state, and NYSED believed him and never checked up to see whether he had done so, but he continued to operate illegally for at least another five years. At no point was Schneiderman involved in this.
