Mike Huckabee: Donald Trump May Be a “Car Wreck” . . .

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 9:30 am

. . . But Hillary!™

I started to write a long post about how Republicans will justify literally anything in this election, and use the most twisted logic to do so. But why write a long post when a simple tweet will do?

Now who can argue with that?

  6. After the election, whoever wins will lack a mandate and will be extremely weak.

If it’s Hillary, she will realize it and opt for the passive-aggressive regulatory game like Obama, vetoing all real reform and playing chicken with Congress on the budget. As before.

And she’ll probably be impeached for her corruption.

If it’s Trump, one would hope for concerted and disciplined work with Congress on a package of reforms, but what I expect is impatience, rage, petulance, late-night tweets about Congressional leaders, and military adventure.

And he’ll probably be impeached for his poor judgement. Or threatening to nuke Mexico.

What say you Pat? Did you wake up with a horse head in bed one day?

  10. It happens a lot up here in Northern California with our Spanish speaking cohorts. Maybe they aren’t use to freeways with so many lanes. Can’t read the English signs. What ever.
I’ll say this for the ones I’ve witnessed with my own eye. They stay on the left hand lane as if the fast lane were the opposite lane. So they’re at least that well trained.
Thank God we don’t have Great Britain, Japan, or Australia on the Southern border, adding they use the wrong lane always to the confusion of driving on new fangled “four lane freeway”.

I can’t speak to the drunk part.

  11. Does Mike Huckabee know that Trump voted for Hillary for president, endorsed her, donated to her, and defended her performance as Secretary of State?

For all the hysteria about how Hillary is going to kill everyone and ruin the world, how do Trump’s fans answer this basic point? Trump is so awful that his supporters use worse and worse metaphors to describe how insane it would be to support Hillary, but this means Trump’s judgment in supporting Hillary is described in worse and worse terms.

Trumpkins cannot possible hope to win this election for that basic reason. Worst GOP candidate in the party’s history.

No, I’m not calling Clinton lucifer,

Do you consider me a “Trumpkin” because I think Trump is only the 3rd worst major party presidential candidate in history??

I don’t care if Trump groveled before her and kissed her toes, he is still Trump and will be opposed,
she is still a Clinton and will be enabled.

  15. Dusty, a lot of water has went over the dam since 2007?
It was a widely held belief among Republicans that Clinton would be preferable in a limited marginal way to a President Obama.

At a certain point the perception shifted to “The longer we can keep Hillary afloat the more of Obama’s illegally procured overseas money in his campaign war chest will be used up.”

So Trump joined in that crusade. So what? So did Rush Limbaugh.

  16. Lucifer/Leprechaun in 2016!

    — Dustin

    Colonel Haiku (ede614)

  17. Dustin, the #2 demon will pour praise over lucifer itself,
does that mean one should vote for lucifer?

My friend, no of course we should not vote for lucifer. But who is the devil in this race? Is it Trump, the man who built an empire of sleaze and praises atrocities, muses about using weapons of mass destruction, abandoned the mother of his children for, in his words “A hot piece of ass”, has sexually abused women and bragged about it, supported Hillary and democrats far to Hillary’s left, and defended it as saying it’s for his own corrupt business advantage, an advantage he has pressed to harm veterans doing business on park avenue, an old woman who wanted to stay in the home she raised her family in (who was paid one fifth her home’s value when big government kicked her out), and has not paid taxes in decades because of his serial bankruptcies and frauds?

Or is it Hillary, the lady who has tried to socialize our health care for 22 years, ban guns, has a fear of transparency so extreme she was willing to make classified intel vulnerable to hackers to avoid FOIAs, and abandoned our men in Benghazi?

I think reasonable people disagree on this. I’m not sure why you take offense, but no, I do not think those who vote for Trump while saying he’s terrible are Trumpkins. I think you, like me, see no good answers this year. You just think Trump is worse than Hillary and I think Hillary is worse than Trump.

Your calculations are extremely misguided. Trump knows how to pay people off and will face little accountability. If I’m wrong, please email me a copy of his tax returns. Trump was not impressed by a universal demand for accountability. Trump’s call for amnesty, nominating far left judges (as he once promised), calls for more gun control, and the like, will be met with mixed support in the GOP and full support from the democrats. How in the world is this opposition? Hillary, on the other hand, will be supported by the democrats and opposed by the republicans. That’s much, much better.

The GOP being run by a far left democrat is the worst case scenario. Ideally the GOP would get a conservative elected, but this lesson taught us a harsh lesson. When Cruz had a shot, the GOP handed the election to Hillary avoid any chance of reform.

That’s the real rub. You and me debating about Trump isn’t going to change the fact that he’s going to lose in a landslide. Don’t be fooled by the typical election-eve ‘oh it’s going to be close’ BS. It’s not going to be close.

    Dustin (ba94b2)

  18. Do you consider me a “Trumpkin” because I think Trump is only the 3rd worst major party presidential candidate in history??

Of course this is the reverse.

Yes, this is a winning argument. Those who do not agree with you are worshiping satan. Continue demonizing and hating people who don’t agree with you. Perhaps start lying again as you get really worked up. Maybe talk about how I’m the prawn of arabs and try to get a rise out of me. Because you’re so religiously righteous and I’m really just a Satanist.

Trump said Obama was doing a great job. Trump thinks Hillary would be a great president, not merely not as bad as Obama. He thinks both of them are great and the worst president in American history was George W Bush.

You know this. I proved it to you yesterday. Your defense of Trump is in bad faith. He is no conservative and no republican. He is lying about his views and has a proven history of being on the left on nearly all issues.

    Dustin (ba94b2)

  21. Remember, from 2001 to 2009, Trump was a registered democrat. From 2009 to 2012 he was an independent.

These folks saying Trump was a republican practicing the chaos campaign against Obama are simply not telling the truth. There’s no nicer way to put it.

  24. I hope President Trump will be opposed, MD, but I have a hard time believing the GOP will given how most of its leaders and voters support him no matter what he says and does. And note how quick they have been here to literally demonize conservatives that oppose them.

So tell me again that when Trump makes deals with the Democrats to spend money and enable liberal policies, he will be opposed. Make me feel better even though reality suggests otherwise. Frankly, this election proves that only a few people will oppose him, just as it is here at this website.

You replied to the comment, so yes, I know you read it. Come on man. There’s no reason to give up your integrity for some politician, even if you do really like him.

But by all means, don’t reply to me. I didn’t come here to change your mind and I also did not come here to be insulted by someone who is totally uninterested in discussion, facts, truth, or alternative points of view.

DRJ is right. The fervor of Trump’s supporters make me really worry for our country, even if he loses, because it represents something dark. We should never have that kind of devotion to a politician, and a guy like Trump sees it as license to do great evil. Trump believes he could shoot someone dead in broad daylight and his supporters would stick by him. This is not healthy!

    Dustin (ba94b2)

  27. It’s hard for me to say someone should be banned after I wrote Patterico a few years ago to ask that Haiku not be banned after insulting my family. It feels hypocritical to start calling for bannings when people insult me when I did not call for them when they insulted my family.

But I would never be able to keep a blog like this working in times like this, where so many people are absolutely certain that those who don’t see the world the way they do are actual evil, committing treason if they vote the ‘wrong’ way, and should be ignored while everything they say is filibustered over with insults.

I enjoy this blog enough that I put up with it, but most people don’t.

  31. Now who can argue with that?

    Joe Biden.

  32. Win or lose, the lesson the GOPe will draw is that they if they want to win, they need a candidate who advocates authoritarian statism, and is willing to demagogue on issues like immigration, jihadism, and law and order. And is a competent politician, unlike Trump, and one with whom they can make the necessary deals.

I think it will be a close election. But unless Trump loses badly, the GOPe will be even less friendly to small government ideas that it already is.

And I will remind you that I have already voted, and voted for the one actual Republican running for POTUS: Gary Johnson.

Calling someone a troll as a means to further your liberalization of the freedom of speech.

Do you just mouth the words and never think about them?

    Colonel Haiku

    Haiku lies about this comment.

He said I was the prawn of arab loins in a direct reference to my ethnicity and also said that my people have their boot on the neck of good people. It was inherently bigoted and everyone agreed it crossed the line.

I then asked Haiku if he wrote the comment and he lied, saying “no”, and then I apologized because I felt bad for accusing Haiku of being a racist (by authoring those comments). the mods then pointed out that Haiku did write the comments and is a liar, and Haiku later apologized for his poor choices.

Now Haiku lies, scrubbing the racial element to say that his comments were entirely a movie reference. And sure, his racist reference was also a pop culture reference. I can see why a racist and a fan of the TV would be so enthusiastic about Trump.

I’m sure I can dig up the link if I really need to, but the long timers here remember. It’s not I who needed to recover. I’m just calling Haiku what he is. I’m personally quite fine. I’ve known there are people like that out there my whole life. Free speech equals people trying to offend. No big deal.

    Dustin (ba94b2)

  41. Or put in terms a Trump fan can appreciate: Why did Hillary lie about her emails? Of course the answer is that she knew she did something wrong. Why did Haiku lie about writing that comment? Same answer.

Kinda amusing to see someone issue such an apparently heartfelt apology and then pretend they did nothing wrong once a little time has passed. But I don’t support Trump so I probably had it coming.

    Dustin (ba94b2)

  42. Dustin, papertiger has no integrity to give up. He has been flat-out lying for a year now. Lying about those who oppose Trump, lying about Trump, lying about what he previously said. He has zero integrity.

    John Hitchcock (5a5a55) — 11/4/2016 @ 11:37 am

Honestly I like that there’s someone being a heartfelt Trump fan. I think it’s great to debate and just think papertiger would be happier explaining why I should vote for Trump instead of talking about the people he disagrees with. Just explain the positive case for Trump and/or the case against Hillary. Not the case for why people who aren’t on the same page are committing treason (not that papertiger said that… that was hoagie).

I bet you see a bunch of people driving the wrong direction on the freeway.

    papertiger

Papertiger can be funny. It’s not necessary to insult people, but my point is he’s not an idiot troll.

Yes, Trump has admitting that his fame is a license to commit evil. Remember he bragged that he gets away with this stuff. Meanwhile I distinguish criticizing the guy running for the presidency from criticizing people who don’t answer the tough question of Hillary v Trump the way I do.

And he seems like a genuinely happier person than Trump will ever be because there’s wisdom in ethics. Doing the right thing is also doing the wise thing.

  52. Okay lets try it. Trump says he’ll build a wall, then we can talk about who stays.

That’s just what everybody wants since the beginning, and no other politician has ever run on.

Giving an amnesty without securing the border is just incentivizing another wave of unchecked illegal aliens to cross the border.
Ronald Reagan did it. Biggest mistake of his time in office.

Now all the new batch of Republicans want to do the same, and act like it isn’t a mistake because Saint Ronnie did it.
Well that don’t fly with me.

If Trump builds the wall he will go down in history as the greatest President of our lifetime.
Eclipsing Reagan. Better than Ike, because in the digital age the donks won’t be able hide the achievement, like they did with Eisenhower.

Amnesty afterwards won’t be objectionable or difficult politically. It will be what everybody wants then.

Yeah, Trump is like a deranged caricature of someone’s most twisted fantasy of Romney. Strip away all decency to replace with sexually abusive, crank up the cronyism 1000%, twist weak moderate republican to Hillary donor, and you’ve turned Romney into Trump. That a Trump fan would bash Romney for being a pervert is truly hilarious, and I say this as someone who was highly critical of Romney back when the GOP actually was sane enough to be choosing between Romney and Perry, two actual Republicans who were governors and mentally stable. Hindsight!

  74. 67.So, papertiger, what will your lot do if, after being elected, Trump decides not to build a wall? Because I’ll give you 3-1 he won’t.

1 in 3 odds is better than you’ll get from any other GOP candidate.

And you have a 100% odds that Trump won’t erase the border, surrendering great swathes of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas, to Mexican drug lord rule, which you have a 1 in 3 shot Hillary will do.

    papertiger (c8116c)

  75. I have to give papertiger a point for that. The GOP could have ‘built the dang wall’ many times over by now. They had all branches of power after 9/11 and could have gotten it done in the name of security and stability during an economic downturn. They did not do it because they don’t want to.

Personally I think Trump’s claim to build the wall is hogwash, but the GOP opened the door for someone to take them on on immigration. If they learn to take the issue seriously in the future that would be nice.

  76. it’s always a carp shoot, in 88, one expected poppy to follow through on his major promise, relying on darman and baker he decided not to, and the rest was history, now romney is like his atlantic counterpart cameron, whereas trump is more like boris johnson in certain respects, both cancelled themselves out and brexit’s energy is squandered by theresa may,

  77. so lets consider what they are too willing to do, fund robertscare, moloch’s minions, cve which is the pinata school of counterterrorism (blindfold yourself and hit targets blindly) surrender the internet to the oligarchs and warlords,

  79. I stand by what I said in that thread, Dustin. That’s why I posted the link. Also to show how unglued you became and to give a glimpse at some other folks opinions of you and your mischaracterizing, sanctimonious, dishonest tendencies. Again, many other threads to chose from. That previous primary season was not you at your best and things haven’t improved.

  80. no he’s flown over macho grande, eleventy, so when ryan and mcturtle, damn trump with faint praise, they say aha, well they felt the same way about cruz, which was why paul singer moved heaven and earth to isolate him from any support, even among likely caucus goers, ie the sea island conference,

  81. I called you Capt. Bonkers, be precise. And that thread from 2012 was evidence of how prone you are to losing your mud. When you’re not brown-nosing, you’re mischaracterizing the posts of others, or impugning the character and motivations of others, or just being your own obnoxious self.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  82. It’s already been revealed that Haiku was the one who made that comment. Then lied about it.

That bore repeating, so I repeated it.

  84. it is rather illuminating, romney succeeded in the way the medici wanted to, pounding all other rivals with 10-50 times advertising, and then since the basenghi metaphor is overused, he became michigan j frog in the general,
