Those Southern Poverty Law Center Haters Gonna Hate

In an unintentionally funny twist, a noted group of liberal extremists have joined forces with the Southern Poverty Law Center to debut the SPLC’s Field Guide to Anti-Muslim Extremists. These arbiters of extremism include Media Matters for America, the Center for New Community and ReThink Media.

Their executive summary begins with a very carefully worded introduction lest you think Islam is any sort of motivating factor or common thread:

Ever since the Al Qaeda massacre of Sept. 11, 2001, American Muslims have been under attack. They have been vilified as murderers, accused of conspiring to take over the United States and impose Shariah religious law, described as enemies of women, and subjected to hundreds of violent hate crime attacks. A major party presidential nominee has even suggested that America ban Muslim immigrants.

Ironically, included in their profiles of 15 anti-Muslim extremists are women who themselves have been victimized by Muslims practicing their form of Islam, and face death threats for exercising their First Amendment right to speech.

Unbelievably making the cut (no pun intended), is Ayaan Hirsi Ali. And from the get-go, you can see the group casting doubt on her life story, even the worst parts. Because in the world of leftist extremism, only certain women are given the benefit of the doubt:

Ayaan Hirsi Ali is a Somali-born activist who says she endured female genital mutilation and fled civil wars and an arranged marriage in Africa.

From Ayaan Hirsi Ali in her autobiography, Infidel (page 32), describing what took place when she was five years old:

I was next. Grandma swung her hand from side to side and said, “Once this long kintir is removed you and your sister will be pure.” From Grandma’s words and gestures I gathered that this hideous kintir, my clitoris, would one day grow so long that it would swing sideways between my legs. She caught hold of me and gripped my upper body in the same position as she had put Mahad. Two other women held my legs apart. The man, who was probably an itinerant traditional circumciser from the blacksmith clan, picked up a pair of scissors. With the other hand, he caught hold of the place between my legs and started tweaking, like Grandma milking a goat. “There it is, there is the kintir,” one of the women said.

Then the scissors went down between my legs and the man cut off my inner labia and clitoris. I heard it, like a butcher snipping the fat off a piece of meat. A piercing pain shot up between my legs, indescribable, and I howled. Then came the sewing: the long, blunt needle clumsily pushed into my bleeding outer labia, my loud and anguished protests… When the sewing was finished, the man cut the thread off with his teeth.

The SPLC list of anti-Muslim extremists also includes Pamela Geller. And of course she gets hammered by the SPLC, while those who sought to kill her for exercising her right to speech are handled with care:

In 2015 in Garland, Texas, Geller sponsored a “Draw the Prophet” cartoon contest — an obvious provocation aimed at Muslims, who regard graphic depictions of Muhammad as blasphemous — which drew two angry U.S.-born jihadists who were killed when they attacked the event. An ardent defender of Israel, Geller has described the press there as largely “Jewicidal.”

  2. The SPLC is a leftist propaganda group that pushes lefty memes and anything that is anti-Western. Their racism and bigotry towards whites is clear to all, but the furthest left who think they are right.

  3. (I’m really nk.)

The SPLC is not Southern, it has nothing to do with poverty (except their own moral poverty), and it is not a law center. But it’s a cooler name than Loony Left-Wing Anti-American Dips**ts which is what they really are.

  4. Present-day SPLC is another classic example of mission creep. They had their time when it was largely anti-Klan and to their credit, they called out MS-13 and brown-on-black in the mid-2000s when a lot of the country wasnt aware.

  5. American Muslims have been under attack

So now “under attack” means noticing that radical Islamists all over the world are killing people. Otherwise, they are free to practice their religion and to retain all their customs here, which include hating gays and other forms of hysterical overreaction to sexuality. Got it.

  6. MS-13 didn’t need to be called out since they’ve been an active criminal gang since the 80’s and well known in law enforcement, the media and portrayed on TV. To be anti-klan is to be Republican since they were the foremost in the fight against the klan so nobody needed the SPLC. and what is brown-on-black Is that some kind of subcategory to crime?

The SPLC is a racist organization like BLM and the Congressional Black Caucus and so many other race based organizations that if representing any other race would be treated like the KKK or Skinheads but get away with promoting racial hatred and division because they’re “black” (and associated with the democrat party). Well I know a lot of black people and that ain’t them. A best friend of 52 years, I was his best man and I’m Godfather to his children spits on the SPLC (and BLM).

  7. Not today, else I’m tempted to see if certain special effects from the movie JAWS really do work as advertised.

Yet for the SPLC, this Muslim is not just not the right type of Muslim — he is “anti-Muslim.” The charges that SPLC levels against Nawaz are (this is not satire) that he has (a) co-operated with, rather than worked against, the British police (b) suggested that customers in banks should have to show their faces (c) once failed to abide by the most hardline interpretation of Islamic blasphemy law (d) once visited a strip club on his stag-night…An organisation that used to prosecute white racists has ended up attacking black and Muslim immigrants.

  10. MS-13 was created by deporting criminal aliens. A lot of them actually grw up in Los Angeles, but because they weren’t norn there, were not U.S. citizens. But they did not lose their knowledge of English, or their contacts in the United States, or with each other, or their desire for money, when deported. Nor did they gain any ability to make an honest living where they were sent.

Many came back – but just not to LA because they were known there. Other stayed in El Savador but became drug smugglers.

  12. Sammy doing what he can to once again apply for DNC spokesman.

Sammy, have you given your resume to Clinton yet?

  13. I assume that there must be some genuine anti-Moslem crime, somewhere, if only because in a country as big as this there’s some of everything. But is anyone specifically aware of any actual examples? Because I can’t recall any media reports of such crimes that didn’t turn out to be something else.

Also, people keep saying the SPLC once did a good job but has now gone bad. Maybe I’m just too young to remember, but when exactly was it that the SPLC did anything worthwhile?

  14. njrob @12 I don’t think HRC would wnat this kind of a defense. I’m just saying the accusation taht Obama knew is wrong.
