Grabby Corey Lewandowski Still Consulting for Trump While Also a CNN Commentator

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 6:53 am

ABC News:

Donald Trump’s presidential campaign paid former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski’s company $20,000 in consulting fees in August, campaign filings show.

Lewandowski was fired as Trump’s campaign manager on June 20 after a series of missteps that included a physical confrontation with a reporter and being charged with battery over an altercation with protesters at a rally. The battery charges were later dropped.

Days after the firing, CNN hired Lewandowski as an on-air political commentator, a position he holds currently.

Trump’s campaign finance filing shows a $20,000 payment made to Lewandowski’s company, Green Monster Consulting, LLC, on August 11 for the purpose of “strategy consulting.”

ABC News had previously reported the rapprochement between the fired employee and the presidential candidate.

CNN pays Grabby Corey to be a commentator.

They should be embarrassed.

I doubt that they are.

  1. Looks like the R-team is learning how to fight this war from the d-team. The d’s have been doing this for years or at least it appears that way. Don’t know if $$ changed hands or not. If you are going to fight–fight to win

  2. But maybe you have data showing Green Monster is actually still doing work for Trump.

  8. Lewandowski grabbed Fields, who had been warned not to approach the candidate, and pulled her back. This was an entirely decent, defensible act, caused her no real harm, and is the sort of thing an ex cop, aware she was meant not to approach the candidate like this, should do. Your reporting and thinking on this is abominable.

By the way, will you go after Michelle Fields’ boyfriend for clearly assaulting independent reporter Charles C. Johnson?

There was much less reason to touch Johnson than there was for Lewandowski to touch Fields.

  9. But you’d probably love it if Trump was assassinated, so there’s that.

  10. Lewandowski was chairman of the New Hampshire delegation at the Republican National convention and he’s involved with the Trump campaign in New Hampshire, a state he tells Trump he can carry.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/13/us/politics/donald-trump-campaign.html

And Corey Lewandowski, Mr. Trump’s former campaign manager, who is still a trusted adviser, has visited New Hampshire in recent weeks, meeting with senior Republicans there and making suggestions on spending and strategy decisions in the state, two people familiar with his activities said.

This is not exactly breaking news.

ABC News reported about Lewandowski’s continuing involvement in late August:

    http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/fired-manager-corey-lewandowski-involved-donald-trump-campaign/story?id=41723861

According to that article, the (Aug 11) payment to Lewandowski could be severance, paid out over time, althouugh it didn’t establish that it was.

Besides New Hampshire, Lewandowski maybe also might be advising Trump about the first district of Maine. Trump’s chances in the first district (1 Electoral vote) are said to be better than in New Hampshire. (4 Electoral votes)

NOPE! He battered Fields without cause. Even if she had been warned not to approach, she is a reporter attempting to ask a presidential candidate a question and he is not a cop. It is an indecent, indefensible act that caused her ACTUAL harm (she had a bruise on her arm). Your defense of a battery on a woman is abominable.

So you’re familiar with the backstory? (Watching the video, it’s obvious there is one.) Lay it on us. A link to Weiinstein’s side, which you implicitly claim to be familiar with and reject, is a must.

    Patterico (5b4aaa)

  14. I’m pretty sure that letting Corey go to a paid CNN position was entirely a way of separating him from the campaign while still allowing him to campaign and get paid via other methods. The fact that CNN saw fit to hire him is either a dumb or triangulating move on their part.

Whether you’re getting paid by the Trump or #NeverTrump organization under the table to shill for them, political peoples gotta eat.

I find it telling, however, that HES GETTING PAID UNDER THE TABLE is the immediate conclusion that our host jumped to, almost like paid political arrangements under a slim pretense of independence seemed personally familiar to him.

    Dystopia Max (76803a)

  15. The charges were dropped. There was no crime. It’s unseemly for a prosecutor to keep declaring him guilty when there was no crime.

If it had been a male reporter this wouldn’t have even been an issue.

    LBascom (c230be)

  16. Well, that was actually directed at #17, I shouldn’t have said Patterico was still declaring him guilty, my apologies.

That’s an issue for a defense. It’s Weinstein’s job not to assault Johnson just because he doesn’t like him and they’re walking on the same street.

    Denver Guy (4750ec)

  18. The AbC story seems to indicate it could be severance. he might have had a contract that said he would get paid as long as Trump was campaigning.

Of course such aprovision in his contract would not necessarily mean that Trump would actually pay him if he didn’t like him any more.

  19. The status quo is intolerable. David Stockman:

You can’t find lazier people than in the mainstream financial press, but their exuberant cheerleading about the purported 5.2% gain in the real median household income in 2015 surely was a new high in mendacity. And we are not talking about the junior varsity here: The Washington Post was typical with a headline of superlatives followed by even more exuberance in the text:

U.S. household incomes soared in 2015, recording biggest gain in decades………The data represents the clearest evidence to date that the nation’s long, slow and topsy-turvy economic recovery has finally begun to deliver prosperity for wide swaths of workers.
The self-evident fact is that the median household couldn’t have had an after-inflation income gain of 5.2% in 2015. There is not a single data point in the mountains of “incoming” economic data that is consistent with that proposition. Yet nothing in the Post story, or any other mainstream coverage, even hints that the Census Bureau’s whopper isn’t on the level.

In the context of what was by all accounts a sputtering economy during 2015, in fact, the Census Bureau unleashed the largest year-over-year gain in recorded history. But not a single reporter smelled a fish.

    ..

It turns about that the real median income is down by 23% over the last 15 years.

North Carolina: Trump 45%, Clinton 40%.

    Ohio: Trump 42%, Clinton 37%.

Trump only wins, or rather Hillary only loses, if the 2-party presidential vote is below 80%.

Trump can only win if the plurality winner gets somewhat less than 40% of the popular vote. It could also get thrown into the House if there are only some sates a third party andidate wins.

The states you cite here are more likely to wind up in the Republican column. You need to look at New Mexico, Iowa and New Hampshire.

For now, it is whatever Obama’s policy is, except Obama’s policy is pathetic. We are at the stage where Kerry almost has to accuse Russia of bombing that UN convoy, and the only out is, that maybe theer were some other planes flown by some unknown military owers in the vicinity. They’ll try yo paperr it over.

It seems like Putin was so anxious to starve people in Aleppo, he didn’t even wait to get the U>S> to tell him the positions of teh Syrian rebels we support. Maybe he couldn’t bomb them anyway because theer;s some U.S. special forces embedded.

Trump’s policy: Let Putin do what he wants, ally the U.S. with Russia allegedly against terrorists.

Of course Putin will make sure the terrorists are never defeated so as not to endanger the alliance. It’s not like the war against Nazi Germany where Stalin actually wanted Hitler defeated.

If the United states doesn’t support an army, they’re going to seek alliances so they won’t be destroyed.

All of this though is really the fault of the Saudis who out togetehr this allliance.

I think the Saudi goals in Syria are the following in the following order:

    1. No democracy or genuinely elected government in Syria.

    2. No peace with Israel on the part of any Syrian government.

    3. Containment of Iran.

    4. Elimination of ISIS as a factor.

Number 2 is not a big priority because they don’t have to work hard at it. I ranked it that high because I think the other goals would give way to that.

If there was some group that would help contain Iran, but make peace with Israel – like actually in fact the Kurds in Syria and Iraq – they don’t support it. And the Kurds aren’t going to do anything official because then the Saudis, and the groups they sponsor would be their enemies, and it’s not important to them.

The Saudis do have a preferred state. I don’t think its actually a Salafi state. That’s second best. What they really would like is a powerful near absolute (but consulting and cautious) monarchy, but new monarchies just aren’t established nowadays.

Syria under Bashar Assad was turning into that, (I mean he inherited the rulership from his father) and also Libya (which was becoming more like a Gulf state) but Assad in 2011 or 2012 wouldn’t listen to them as to how put down the revolt. He had to offer pardons to people who would accept his rule and he wouldn’t. That’s part of the Saudi playbook.

He did listen to them earlier with regard to arresting and punishing doctors who helped people harmed by police or soldiers (an idea that seems to have been invented by Saudi Arabia around 2011 -that’s just my impression – it was adopted by Bahrain – it needs investigation. I think it first appeared there and then.)

And attacking doctors and rebel held hospitals has remained a principle of the Syrian government.
Only they have to be in a little bit of denial about it because the western powers do not approve. It’s OK with Russia, and Russia even did something now that Syria itself didn’t want to do: attack a UN aid convoy.

so the nbc poll, they’re touting includes a sample with twice as many obama voters as there were in 2012

There’s a slight caveat. People don’t actually report accurately or all people don’t accurately for whom they voteds in the previous election and they report voting when they didn’t. You don’t know what people are now saying in polls as to whom they voted for in 2012.

But 47% Obama nd 33% Romney is really a departure form the results.

Now what would the poll show if you adjusted the poll to the correct numbers, maybe even leaving a slight exaggeration of the vote for Obama? (assuming mostly peole who actually didn’t vote in 2012 incorrectly reported voting for him)

    Sammy Finkelman (dec35d)

  51. that’s just some of the hinkiness of the poll, also 20% didn’t vote in the sample at all, we are led to believe,

    narciso (d1f714)

  52. Mark Murray probably thinks he proved with this poll that Romney got 33% of the vote in 2012. Or even, let us multiply by a quurter and add it, to adjust for refused to say/didn’t vote/doesn’t remember, that still gets you 41.25%. The actual result was about 48%.
