GOP Releases Roster of Convention Speakers

Filed under: General — Dana @ 8:08 am

What’s perhaps more telling is who isn’t on the list: Gov. Mike Pence, who is reportedly reserving air time in August for his reelection bid in Indiana, and Sarah Palin.

Here is the list:

The Rev. Mark Burns
Phil Ruffin, Las Vegas businessman
Rep. Ryan Zinke, Montana
Pat Smith
Mark Geist, Benghazi survivor
John Tiegen, Benghazi survivor

Sheriff David Clarke

Darryl Glenn, Senate candidate from Colorado
Sen. Tom Cotton, Arkansas
Karen Vaughn, mother of Navy SEAL killed in Afghanistan
Former Gov. Mike Huckabee, Arkansas
Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, New York City
Melania Trump
Sen. Joni Ernst, Iowa
Kathryn Gates-Skipper
Marcus Luttrell, retired Navy SEAL
Dana White, president of Ultimate Fighting Championship
Gov. Asa Hutchinson, Arkansas
Attorney General Leslie Rutledge, Arkansas
Former U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey

Lt. Col. Eileen Collins, former NASA astronaut
Sen. Ted Cruz, Texas
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Georgia
Michelle Van Etten
Lynne Patton, Vice President of the Eric Trump Foundation
Eric Trump

Jerry Falwell Jr., president of Liberty University
Rabbi Haskel Lookstein
Chris Cox, National Rifle Association
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Kentucky
Tiffany Trump
Gov. Chris Christie, New Jersey
Donald J. Trump Jr.
Gov. Scott Walker, Wisconsin

Interestingly:

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who has lobbied tirelessly to be Trump’s running mate, is billed as appearing separately from the billionaire businessman’s yet-to-be-announced “nominee for vice president” on the third night of the convention.

Weirdly:

Each of the four convention nights will highlight a specific election-year theme, including an evening dedicated to the September 11, 2011, terrorist attacks on U.S. facilities in Benghazi, Libya. There will also be a presentation on former President Bill Clinton’s stories history of sexual misconduct, according to sources familiar with the details of next week’s convention.

And since we’re talking lists:

  2. Beautiful shut-out of ‘moderate’ ‘Republicans’, very beautiful.

    Dystopia Max (76803a)

  3. Wait a second, Paul Ryan’s still on the list >_<

    Dystopia Max (76803a)

  4. these speakers are so good!

i hope they make youtubes so i can click them multiple times 🙂

so glad Meghan’s coward daddy’s not gonna be there

he doesn’t bring any pizazzle at all to the party he’s just a nasty useless old man

    happyfeet (a037ad)

  5. Huh, an earlier report said that Tim Tebow was slated to speak but I don’t see him on this list. I wonder if the initial report was bogus, or if someone had a change of heart.

    JVW (eabb2a)

  6. And I wonder what prompted Scott Walker to agree to speak.

    JVW (eabb2a)

  7. Scott Walker’s got a lot of good ideas about how to make America great again (unlike for example Meghan’s cowardly p.o.s. daddy or porn star “Mia Love”)

    happyfeet (a037ad)

  8. Is that Alex Smith the NFL quarterback?

    JVW (eabb2a)

  9. JVW,

Perhaps Walker wants to take full advantage of the opportunity.

    Dana (995455)

  10. I like the part in that NRO piece you link, Dana, where it says that General Flynn has already been vetted by the campaign. Can you imagine what vetting must consist of in this clown car of a campaign?

    JVW (eabb2a)

  11. JVW, in light of the crazy clown car scenario, what if Palin isn’t listed as a speaker because she is going to be his stealth veep selection!

    Dana (995455)

  12. Thank God we won’t have to listen to Sarah Palin’s shrill voice, pontificating about how hunting moose is the American way, and how raising one’s children to have Jerry Springer street brawls is what Sam Adams and Paul Revere were all about.

    Cruz Supporter (102c9a)

  13. #11

Oh, Dana, it’s too early in the day to elicit nightmares. Please stop. (LOL)

    Cruz Supporter (102c9a)

  14. Interesting–Sarah Palin is not on that list. Granting that the RNC establishment would get a restraining order against her if they could, but she’s been a loyal soldier to Trump. One wonders what is going on behind the scenes there.

    M. Scott Eiland (b97d1e)

  15. It’s now being reported that it is indeed Pence as VP.

    Dana (610912)

  16. which suggests politico’s record of accuracy is about .160.

    narciso (732bc0)

  17. Is that the same Pam Bondi that got paid off by Trump for deciding against Florida joining the class action lawsuit against Trump U?

    Ghost Rider (577e96)

  18. Pence Fence? so now it is a touchback after all…CN RR and Megabus up in trading today.

    urbanleftbehind (e8b0ab)

  19. Was Newt punished for his empathetic speech about the recent BLM – Police incidents. Might have been a reminder of the couch video.

    urbanleftbehind (e8b0ab)

  20. Sen. Murkowski? Come on. She doesn’t count as Republican.

    papertiger (c2d6da)

  21. Hey! How come I’m not on NBC’s list? I’m not attending, either.

    nk (dbc370)

  22. What? No Wayne Newton?!

Great week for AMC to do a Clint Eastwood marathon… or Walking Dead reruns.

    DCSCA (a343d5)

  23. Ted Nugent should be speaking.

    mg (31009b)

  24. I hope it’s not Gingrich. I still see him doing that global warming commercial with pelosi. Dummy.

    mg (31009b)

  25. I think they still don’t know about Kasich. Normally, he’d have a featured role at the convention because he’s the governor of the state the convention is in (and of the same party) Kasich asn’t yet endorsed Trump but I don’t know that he said he definitely would not attend.

USA TODAY still has him as undecided:

    http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/onpolitics/2016/07/14/trump-republican-national-convention-unknown/87081884/

The governor of the state of Ohio is noticeably missing from the speakers list and he hasn’t endorsed the presumptive Republican nominee. But Kasich is listed for some convention-related events including speaking to the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and New Hampshire delegates. “He is very unlikely to go into the convention hall or speak,” spokesman Chris Schrimpf said Thursday via email to The Cincinnati Enquirer.

So, he’ll be around, but probably not inside the convention hall. Corey Lewandowski, by the way, is Chairman of the New Hampshire delegation.

Earlier, when Bill Kristol broached the idea to him, Kasich thought the idea of running independently was futile.

  26. Palin won’t be there since Alaska’s ‘a long ways away’ Trump said. http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/presidential-races/287751-trump-on-palins-convention-absence-alaska-is-a-long-ways

    Tillman (a95660)

  27. Rabbi Haskel Lookstein is the Rabbi who oversaw the conversion of Ivanka Trump to Judaism.

Although he is highly respected, (some of) his conversions are now not being recognized in Israel.

    Sammy Finkelman (372aad)

  28. If Tebow doesn’t speak, it’ll be due to Disney putting the squeeze on him.

    No Ohio-native Jack Nicklaus? Telling.

    Ed from SFV (3400a5)

  29. And I wonder what prompted Scott Walker to agree to speak.

    JVW (eabb2a) — 7/14/2016 @ 8:15 am

This is getting pretty loony. Why wouldn’t he want to speak?

    Gerald A (76f251)

  30. Mark Steyn, Gene Simmons, Jon Voight, M. Malkin, Clarice Friedman would be worth the listen. And Clint and chair.

    mg (31009b)

  31. Scot Walker, battle tested he man, is speaking for Trump.

    papertiger (c2d6da)

  32. They divided the speakers up by day of the week. How come it got all mixed up here?

    Sammy Finkelman (372aad)

  33. 28. Rabbi Haskel Lookstein was not actually supposed to be a speaker. He was supposed to give the invocation. When his name was published, he got criticized by alumni of Ramaz High School, also known as the Joseph H. Lookstein Upper School, of which he had been principal, and he pulled out altogether. He released his remarks, though:

According to the Forward, the invocation, would have said:

We thank you for our constitutional government that has created and fostered the American ideals of democracy, freedom, justice and equality for all, regardless of race, religion, or national origin. Almighty God: We know that we are living in very dangerous times, when all of these blessings are threatened from without, by forces of terror and unimaginable brutality, and from within, by those who sow the seeds of bigotry, hatred and violence, putting our lives and our way of life at risk.

This can be ead either as a criticism of Donald Trump, or as implicitly denying that Trump was doing or had done anything of the sort.
