AG Lynch: Guess What? I Have Decided To Take The FBI Recommendation After All
[guest post by Dana]
Late this afternoon, I met with FBI Director James Comey and career prosecutors and agents who conducted the investigation of Secretary Hillary Clinton’s use of a personal email system during her time as Secretary of State. I received and accepted their unanimous recommendation that the thorough, year-long investigation be closed and that no charges be brought against any individuals within the scope of the investigation.
I anticipate that at any moment we will see massive waves of Social Justice Warriors from the party of Social Justice, angrily marching on the streets of America in protest that a privileged, white one-percenter and beneficiary of Wall Street, has been allowed to walk even though her “claims” were effectively dismantled and shown to be untrue by the FBI.

Well, we covered this a little bit yesterday, but I must say I am kind of surprised at the degree of vehement criticism that the Bernie Bros and Babes are expressing towards Her Clintonic Majesty in light of this report. And yes, I am on record suggesting that they will get over it and end up back in the Democrat fold come election time, but I am a little less sure about her ability to unite the party today than I was last week.
So, wouldn’t you know, Madame Secretary IT Whiz just released a college affordability plan which — surprise, surprise — moves her primary position much farther to the left in order to placate the Sanders supporters. She now wants the government — both federal and state — to fully subsidize the tuition at public universities for any student whose family income is under $125,000. I need to do a post about all of this sometime when we’re back to discussing policy.

Ten Republicans voted for confirmation: Kelly Ayotte, Ron Johnson, Mark Kirk, Rob Portman, Thad Cochran, Susan Collins, Jeff Flake, Lindsey Graham, Orrin Hatch and Mitch McConnell.
Mr. Harsanyi nailed it last year I think:

Can’t argue with that.

mg, that’s hogwash.
That was a throwaway line in the 476th paragraph of a forgettable Obama speech which Obama’s people had FED Crowley earlier in the week, so she would back up the President when he sprung his trap. What Romney could not say (and it would not have been true) was that Obama had not mentioned terrorism wrt Benghazi.
If there was any fault of Romney’s it was not saying “Since you are going to get into our debate, Ms Crowley, how do you know this?” When she admitted that it was because she had been fed the information, her career would have been over.
But that’s a pretty damn hard thing to expect of anyone, mg.

I don’t understand what your motivation is, but the fact is the Administration blamed a video when it was clear this was terrorism in a hot bed of terrorist activity in a Country that just had a revolution fueled by terrorist elements. So if we can’t deal in reality best we let the American people decide by reviewing the Administration actual record online. That will be online for all to see by tomorrow evening at latest.”
Rodney King's Spirit (e2dd8e) — 7/6/2016 @ 7:27 pmRKS, because it was not a lie. It was completely true what Obama said. In a speech about Benghazi the day after, in the Rose Garden, he had inserted at the end a boilerplate line about fighting terrorists wherever they might be. Now, he said OTHER things, more often and with much more emphasis, but he had actually suggested that it might be terrorism, which was all he asserted during the debate. CROWLEY, OTOH, knew just what a pissy mean-spirited and mendacious remark it was, and still backed him up. But technically, in a Clintonian sense, Obama had not lied.
Kevin M (25bbee) — 7/6/2016 @ 7:45 pmRomney’s problem then, if you had watched it, was that he knew he had stepped into a trap, did not know its dimensions (small, as it turned out) and decided not to dig a hole. Armchair quarterbacks may differ on this, having seen 27 replays, but at the moment Romney chose caution; he was up my 5 points and did not want to eff it up.
It was the hurricane, the press’s constant “just like Katrina, eh, Sally” coverage and Trump’s new friend Christie fellating Obama on the tarmac that killed Romney, not that moment in debate.
Kevin M (25bbee) — 7/6/2016 @ 7:50 pmTrump’s response would have been “LIAR!!!1!! LIAR!!!!1! “LIAR!!!1!! LIAR!!!!1! “LIAR!!!1!! LIAR!!!!1!”, but then he would have been screaming that from the first question while calling Crowley a fat pig.

For that to happen, he wuld have t have confidece that he knew a considerable amount about the subject, so that if there was something he did not know, it wasn’t widely known.
Romney is also at fault for not understanding this even later. He did not touch Benghazi when Bob Schieffer brought it up in the third debate.
And the fact of the matter is, Obama had referred to it as terrorism. The position got furtehr away from reality as the week wore on. This was something that Romney never understood.
And others later, think that when somebody knew something once, they knew it for all future time, so if somebody said anything different later, hey weer lying. But they had “unlearned” it. This was not fake – they really believed it – well Hillary Clinton probably didn’t, but she didn’t want to argue.
This not arguing with the CIA has been defended as proper by Adam Schiff, the ranking Democat on the House Intelligence Committee and one of the members of teh Benghazi committee.

Sammy Finkelman (88f52d) — 7/6/2016 @ 8:20 pmGetting hung up on the meaning of “is” or our present obsession over whether Obama lied should have taught everyone a lesson. The intention in a debate is to communicate, and as sorry as Trump is, he’s been more effective than Romney ever was, even if he wandered around what should have been the focus of his remarks today. We can only hope that Trump can improve his use his aggression and self confidence to frame a consistent and simple message. If he doesn’t, he’ll spiral down. It might take two flushes, but he’ll be gone.
Getting back to Obama lying, in a broader sense, everything Obama says is a lie if you look into the matter deeply enough. The fact that he is completely disengaged from reality doesn’t excuse him from the need to describe reality truthfully, as impossible as that might be. The only time he isn’t lying is when he is repeating the RINO attacks on his administration, but even there he’s suggesting that those truths are lies. Which is just another form of lying.

Obama is incapable of that understanding which eliminates the possibility of compromise. The RINOs seem to like this way of doing business as it frees them from any responsibilities other than campaigning to get reelected. So Obama will never be remembered as the “Great Compromiser”. It’s just as well, given the state of the Republican Party.

ropelight (596f46) — 7/7/2016 @ 2:43 pm72. J. Edgar Hoover said there was no organized crime, most likely because some moles for the Outfit were working for him, till about Applachin in 1957.
Then he began secretly bugging them, under the legal theory, that that was all right, as long as it as not used as evidence in court, but used to prervent crime or disrupt their plans. It was however, used in a case, which organized crime appealed, and the Supreme Court ruled in Katz v. United States 389 U.S. 347 (1967) that the the Fourth Amendment did apply to eavesdropping, reversing, at least in part Olmstead v. United States, 277 U. S. 438, and Goldman v. United States, 316 U. S. 129. In 1968 Congress passed a law setting up more or less the current eavesdropping rules – that it could be done with search warrant but could not be done at all without a warrant except for foreign intelligence or maybe even that needed a warrant, albeit a special kind of one.
Katz v. United States was the second significant Supreme Court victory for organized crime. The first was Mapp v. Ohio, 367 U.S. 643 (1961), 389 U.S. 347 (1967) which extended the exclusionary rule from the federal government to the states. It had been the federal rule since Weeks v. United States, 232 U.S. 383 (1914)
Harry J. Anslinger, head of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics from 1930 to 1962, however, had always accepted the existence of organized crime. That was one way the FBN differed from the FBI.
Anslinger has now become very obscure. Clinton’s DEA had a page dedicated to him, with only his picture and years of tenure, not even his birth and death dates. Just the picture, and Bush II’s DEA website made only a tiny mention of him, as of 2005 (from a Wikipedia talk page comment)
