CNN’s Christiane Amanpour Reminds Viewers Why MSM Is Correctly Viewed With Disdain

Filed under: General — Dana @ 11:27 am

[guest post by Dana]

This is just stunning. During an “interview,” CNN advocacy journalist Christiane Amanpour can be seen attempting to shove her partisan narrative down the throat of Brexit Leave campaigner and conservative Member of the European Parliament Daniel Hannan in a heated exchange. Amanpour’s vigorous bias demonstrates in 9 short minutes precisely why the MSM is not to be trusted with providing objective reporting. Throughout the “interview,” Hannan remains composed in spite of Amanpour’s shameful mischaracterizion of his positions and insulting the British majority (52%) who voted in favor of leaving the EU. Further, Hannan admirably demonstrates how to effectively (and fiercely) push back when being smeared by a dishonest “journalist”.

(I was going to provide a blow-by-blow of the interview, but that would not do it justice. It must be watched in its instructive entirety.)

  1. This should be a mandatory how-to video for Conservative politicians the US.

    Dana (995455)

  2. She’s just embarrassing herself in this interview. To wit:

    1. They pick exactly three people to interview — out of the 16 million people to voted for Brexit — and try to pass them off as representative of how the pro-Brexit side is thinking. I’ll bet you anything we could find three ISIS-sympathizers who voted Remain (let alone the scores of communists and left-fascists); would we then be able to argue that they are representative of the anti-Brexit campaign?

    2. As Dana points out, she clearly saw this interview as an opportunity to harangue Hannan with all of the condescending left-wing talking points she has picked up from The Atlantic and The Guardian, not as an opportunity to find out what a leading pro-Brexit politician thinks might happen next. It’s no wonder that her tenure hosting that news show on ABC ended so horribly. When she described Boris Johnson as a “well-paid” columnist I wish Hannan had retorted, “he likely makes a fraction of what CNN pays you to shill for the Political/Academic/Media/Corporate establishment that has done so well in the hyper-regulated state.”

    3. Christine Amanpour is a great embodiment of what is wrong with modern journalism. She’s exotic, i.e. foreign-born and speaks English with an accent; she was college pals with John F. Kennedy, Jr., so she is dialed into the proper wealthy liberal cliques; she’s betrothed into the Washington establishment having married a former member of the Clinton Administration; and she is completely insufferable, pompous and vain.

    JVW (eabb2a)

  3. That’s the heart of the matter, JVW, Amanpour did not want viewers to hear about what comes next, especially not from a leader in the campaign. He was a convenient soap box from which to stand upon and shove words down his throat and make false accusations. In doing so, she actively worked to keep information from viewers. This is *not* the work of an honest journalist and CNN should fire her immediately. That is, if their reputation means anything to them. But I think we already know that answer…

I wonder what Jake Tapper, CNN employee, thinks about this…

    Dana (995455)

  4. There is no such thing as an honest leftist. Brexit voters, just like white Christian male gun owners, are the Goldbergs of the contemporary left’s “2 minute hate” PC mind control.

The DNC has officially added thoughtcrime as an issue in their evil party platform.

The criminal Hillary cannot be allowed to become president, or the last gasping remnants of our constitutional republic will expire.

  10. Amazing! Can you imagine either of our two previous candidates for the presidency maintaining such a thoughtful and disciplined response in the face of such a malicious and misleading attack?

Neither can I. McCain would have been groveling, sputtering nonsense, and ultimately agreeing with the this horrid woman, and Romney would have blustered politely, but without any substantive rebuttal.

One advantage of a parliamentary system is that those who wish to lead must first be capable of thinking on their feet and expressing themselves carefully.

This should be a heads up for our presumptive nominee. Ambush interviews with anecdotal videos supporting a false narrative, a narrative based on statements by self-proclaimed supporters, are in the offing. Body slamming the interviewer is not advised.

  20. LOL can you imagine Donald Trump being interviewed by Amanpour? Trump can barely stand to be interviewed by a smart woman from Fox News, a hack network. Trump would suddenly be ill or have to give a fundraiser during the time he bravely turned his tail and fled from the interview.

As soon as he was asked a tough question he would start talking about the sex of the interviewer. We’ve seen it before. We’ll see it in the debates if Trump is still running at that point.

  24. They both sound better from a distance.

I remember when Christiane was young. And much cuter.
She helped build CNN the way Ted Turner wanted it built.

  28. Interviewers have all the advantages, they ask the questions, the questions set the tone, media professionals record the sessions, edit the videos, and present their version to the public. Once the interview itself is complete, subjects are powerless to influence how they’re portrayed. They’re sitting ducks, entirely at the mercy of media professionals who are often ruthless opponents.

The only defense is to decline invitations from known bushwackers.

She was going to talk about what their plans are about immigration, buiut he says this vote wasn’t at all about that. She accuses him of backtracking on immigration. She says that that the whole campaign was run on immigration. She triesd to prove it with excerts from interviews. He said it was not a nativist vote. It’s not in his book, this has always been a global country.

Then she tries to say there are hate crimes because of Brexit vote. He says it is outrageous taht’s theer’s alink between between bad behavior and this vote for more democracy.

Interviews of exactly three people from the sixteen million who voted to Leave the EU. It’s as if she never heard the concept of sample size. It is so contemptibly awful that one can scarcely believe it made it on to the air. Dana is right: Amanpour and her producer should be immediately fired for such wretched journalism.

According to her wikipedia entry, here are the universities that have presented Christiane Amanpour with an honorary degree or some other award:

1997: Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree, Emory University
2006: Honorary doctorate degree from the University of Michigan for her contributions to journalism
2010: Honorary doctorate of humane letters degree, Northwestern University
2010: Honorary doctorate from Georgia State University for her contributions to journalism

2011: Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism from Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication [Arizona State University]
2012: Honorary doctorate of humane letters, Amherst College

  42. Speaking of Cruz, I thoroughly enjoyed the snippet of his questioning of Jeh Johnson re: scrubbing of all references to Islam, jihad, etc. from federal instructional documentation, which served to highlight the fey passive-aggressive incompetence that is at the heart of much of the Obama Administration.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  43. 36. 37. She’s right, but she’s wrong. She’s right. Brexit probably did win because of immigration – the 3 people can’t prove anything, of course, but there are polls. The point is right, although by itself, it’s no proof at all, just an illustration, and Hannen doesn’t argue against that,

But she’s wrong. Boris Johnson and some of the leaders of LEAVE campaign were not arguing against immigration, and that’s not what he wants. He wants British legislative and judicial supremacy in Britain.

Daniel Hannan says Brexit won by only a small margin, and lost in 2 of the 4 component parts opf the United Kingdom (Scotland and Wales) so they have to pay attention to what the 48% want. /I think he thinks that gives them a perfect reason not to do too much.

Christiane Amanpour wants to either argue that they want to restrict immigration and that’s amaybe both a terrible thing and, if he says no it isn’t, to then argue that attempting to gain restrictions on EU immigration would make it impossible for Britain to reach an agreement with the EU since free movement within the EU is one principle they don’t want to give sway.

And when Hannen says no they are not after that, she wants to argue he’s betraying the LEAVE voters, and he won’t budge and he says he’s not, he and the LEAVE campaign never was for that.

Hannen says the only thing he would have wanted Cameron to do now was appoint a proponent of LEAVE to negotiate, but otherwise the way things are going is fine.

I can tell you what Boris Johnson is going to go for: Freedom from EU legislation and from EU courts. He’s not looking for restriction on EU immigration (although David Canmeron was promising that and couldn’t deliver and that’s part of the reason REMAIN lost)

Boris Johnson is going for the Brexit he wanted, and not the one that maybe a large number of the Brexit voters expected, but you can certainly say that when you add together the REMAIN people and the people who voted for LEAVE but not for this purpose, you have amajority.

BTW, Cameron is really trying to get the British Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn to quit even though it would be good for Conservative Party for him to stay there as leader. But it’s not good for Britain, he says. That’s like a Democratic leader begging the Republican Party to nominate somebody better than Donald Trump.

Even if it were run on immigration, what on Earth would be wrong with that? The British Isles are a small place, and they are already stuffed to the gills with people, with hordes of savages trying to break in at every moment. It’s like a damn zombie movie. Moreover, the people trying to break in any way they can are manifestly not British, not sympathetic to British ideals, have no racial, ethnic, linguistic, religious or political qualities in common with the British, are frequently manifestly hostile to Britain, and are layabouts, parasites and criminals.

The Brexit voters should proudly proclaim that YES, it was precisely about immigration, give their reasons, and tell the leftards to p!ss off back to Crapistan.

    As for religion:

In the 2001 census 71.6% of all respondents indicated that they were Christians, with the next largest faiths (by number of adherents) being Islam (2.8%), Hinduism (1.0%), Sikhism (0.6%), Judaism (0.5%), Buddhism (0.3%) and all other religions (0.3%). 15% of respondents stated that they had no religion, with a further 7% not stating a religious preference.

I would attribute the perceived prominence of Muslims to Labor and other leftists who cannot distinguish between egalitarianism and tolerance versus oikophobia (self-hatred). Media jackassery like Christiane’s doesn’t help either.

I have a little bit of perspective on that because I have a friend who lives in London and I can tell you that their issues with Poles (and Estonians and Bulgarians and the rest) are very similar to the problems that many here have with immigrants from Mexico and Central America. Namely, the local schools now have to devote an inordinate amount of their budget to teach English as a Second Language classes which is diverting resources away from other valuable programs; the parents are disappearing with the kids to go back to the “old country” for extended periods of time which sets back the education of the children; the kids (especially the young men) then turn 18 and aren’t yet educated enough for trade school or college, so they find themselves in dead-end jobs or on the dole; and the unemployed ones end up hanging around the neighborhood getting drunk at bars, harassing women in the streets, and engaging in petty crime. It may seem romantic to say that we wish we had more Lithuanians or Romanians than Mexicans or Guatemalans, but I think we would come to see the same problems exist.

There are other factors to consider as well, such as cultural and religious erosion, deterioration of public spirit and general morale, ability to innovate, factors relevant to healthy family formation, &c. &c. Mass third world immigration helps with precisely none of these, and is a clear detriment to most.

  90. This is MORE than TELLING. This EXPOSES LIB/MARXIST MEDIA bias for what it is. Amanpour’s problem is not that SHE HAD NO EVIDENCE, QUOTES nor TALKING POINTS in the clutch of PAPERS she held. Amanpour had a PERSONAL BIAS and NARATIVE, and when she BLUNDERED, STUMBLED and tried to force her SQUARE PEG into a ROUND HOLE. Hannan HAD NONE OF IT. So like DAN RATHER, she went FORWARD with her BIASED, RIDICULOUS and UN-SUPPORTED OPINION. No shame. None at all. This wasn’t an INTERVIEW, it was a SET UP and it was an EPIC FAIL.

This is WHO the MFM is. Cristian Amanpour IS NOT A JOURNALIST, she is a LEFTIST SHILL.

    GUS (30b6bd)

Bad Time Sign To Be In Love

He’s in love with the girl that he’s reading about
He’s in love with the girl he can’t live without
He’s in love but he’s sure that it’s a bad sign
    To be in love
    To be in love

Well, let her run her mouth up on the screen
He don’t want to know about it
There’s too many others that know what I mean
And that’s why he got to live without it

He’s in love with the girl he’s reading about
He’s in love with the girl he can’t live without
He’s in love and he’d like to be wearin’ it out
He’s in love but he’s sure that it’s a bad sign to be in love
A bad sign to be in love
A bad sign to be in love
A bad sign to be in love

All the stories coming back to him
From his friends and the people he don’t want to see
The things they say he knows just couldn’t be true
Yeah you could say that he hasn’t a clue

‘Cause he still loves the swarthy girl he’s talking about
He’s in love with the girl he can’t live without
He’s in love and he’d like to be wearin’ it out
He’s in love but he’s sure that it’s a bad sign to be in love
A bad sign to be in love
A bad sign to be in love
A bad sign to be in love

  93. Megyn Kelly thankfully avoided being typecast as an assistant D.A. in Law and Order. Had they did a 2 year hiatus in the mid 00s after Orbachs death and then went with the Sisto-Anderson-DelaGarza lineup as a reboot, they still be on the air.
