  1. I’m feeling a lot like Mary Anne these days. And we still have a ways to go…

  2. I prefer to outlive them. Not an impossible goal, seeing as how they’re already at their allotted three score and ten.

  3. And for you, personally, Dana, just add up the time you waited for your kids to go potty 100% by themselves. I venture that it will be less than either of these “poopers” will be in office.

  4. My rebuttal.

Lt. Col. Frank Slade: I’m not finished! As I came in here, I heard those words, “Cradle of Leadership”. Well, when the bough breaks, the cradle will fall. And it has fallen here. It has fallen. Makers of men, Creators of leaders. Be careful what kind of leaders you’re producing here. I don’t know if Charlie’s silence here today is right or wrong. I’m not a judge or jury, but I can tell you this: He won’t sell anybody out to buy his future! And that, my friends, is called integrity. That’s called courage. Now that’s the stuff leaders should be made of.

Now I have come to the crossroads in my life. I always knew what the right path was. Without exception, I knew. But I never took it. You know why? It was too damn hard.
Now here’s Charlie. He’s come to the crossroads. He has chosen a path. It’s the right path. It’s a path made of principle that leads to character. Let him continue on his journey. You hold this boy’s future in your hands, committee. It’s a valuable future. Believe me. Don’t destroy it. Protect it. Embrace it. It’s gonna make you proud one day, I promise you.

  5. That’s funny, nk.

And I thought Mary Anne’s obit was just hilarious.

    Sadly, yes.

  10. If she was so principled, and was able to choose to pass on, what took her so long? Were the past eight years of politics with BHO as president in accordance with her principles?

  11. it’s left unclear how long she was ailing,

Trump for one looks like he might have a stroke. I wonder who his VP might be. Make it Gingrich and I’ll have some hope.

  15. 13. He’s outwardly spry but doesn’t eat much roughage. Thanks might be the next Mrs. Wilson circa 1920.

  17. Yes, I saw that elsewhere. It is burning up the intertubes.

  18. A brief story which mentioned, showed, and quoted the beginning of this obituary was on the CBS Evening News last night.

  19. You know, I have no sympathy. None. If, as it appears, she took her own life over politics, than I have not words to express my contempt. People who take politics that seriously, more seriously than they care for the lives and feelings of the people closest to them, are the reason why our politics are the way they are today and are the reason we might get President Trump.

  20. Must you always be FOS, Gabriel? Where do you get that she took her own life? The lady passed away and her family “made a funny” in her obituary, to make a political point. Not quite the way you generated “outrage” about someone you never knew or could have cared less about to make your political point. I imagine that they knew her and loved her and feel that she would have approved.

    nk (dbc370)

  21. @nk: The lady passed away and her family “made a funny” in her obituary, to make a political point.

I supposed I assumed no family would have such poor taste. Live and learn.

I imagine that they knew her and loved her and feel that she would have approved.

If that’s true that she wanted it that way, then see my 8:08 comment again; that occasion is not the time or the place.

Untwist your shorts, Gabe. It’s her death, not yours. When we get to you, we’ll be as sombre as you like.

  23. @1. Sheesh, drama queen. Get an agent. Give William Morris a call.

Do what my dad has threatened: cremation, then into an empty mayonnaise jar (doesn’t need to be cleaned out), and off to the dump it goes.
