Ted Cruz Rips Trump, Heidi Cruz Speaks Out

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 7:47 am

Two good clips for you. In the first, Cruz mercilessly rips the Sniveling Coward as a whiny, crying, screaming sore loser.

In the second, Heidi Cruz speaks out about Ted, the attacks from the Sniveling Coward, and much more. It’s my first real chance to hear from her, and I like her.

  4. Mr. Trump’s clearly gotten under their skin and teddy-pie and heidi-cakes decided to do the best defense is a good offense thing

but they’re taking their eye off the ball i think

this just underscores how they have trouble getting along with people who challenge their harvardtrash goldy sacky prerogatives

  8. Happyfeet is trolling, Steven. By projecting Trump’s most obvious faults onto Heidi, he realizes readers can’t resist replying to him.

We’ve seen how Trump flips out and attacks Heidi Cruz with pure emotion and no serious thought about the issues that face us. Heidi when asked just basically brushes it off as beneath her, which is great.

I can’t imagine how Trump would handle diplomacy. His attacks on Ted Cruz’s wife were childish, but they also weren’t provoked. Trump says he was mad, so the nasty attacks were justified, but he points to that PAC that had nothing to do with Cruz (except it also criticized Cruz).

What happens if a President Trump (LOL) were criticized in a foreign nation by citizens? Does he get mad and denigrate the country? He probably would. Millions of military members would be counting on our president to be cool and collected, much like Heidi Cruz and Ted Cruz are.

This is why Trump is losing the primary. Serious people just won’t support him.

Would that be the delegate process ball? Oh wait, that’s Trump who has done that.

  10. I don’t watch TV so I was wondering: Is Heidi interviewed often? She came across well but Patterico’s post suggests this is a rare thing. They should put her on TV more often, as it makes Ted look good and at the same time, people can’t help but realize how pathetic Trump was to attack his opponent’s wife.

If Trump has any self awareness he flinches when he sees Heidi or hears her name, knowing it showed what a man he isn’t.

He knows she has unimpeachable academic and professional credentials, whereas his own wife merely has a certification from the Westchester County Cosmetic Academy.

    Interesting observation.

I do wonder how Trump plans to pivot on Hillary. He’s supported the clintons by word and deed more than almost any democrat has. His explanation is that as a businessman, the only way he could compete was to buy politicians, but this makes him look weak (because it is weak).

Meanwhile we’re being told to support Trump if he’s the nominee because Hillary is such a terrible outcome, but Trump supported Hillary, so that doesn’t make any sense.

Trump is the extreme come to life. He’s the test of principles for a conservative voter: is party above principles to the extent that you’d vote for anything with an R by his name? I personally would not.

    Dustin (2a8be7)

  18. Troll and Trump are synonymous. My sad beknighted brother has two topics, his atheism and what a criminal Ted Cruz is. Ted Cruz is an adulterer, a liar, a criminal, and Satan. Also if you’re going to worship a myth, why not Thor? He has an awesome hammer and can call lighting bolts? or something…

Remember this: Trumpertarians are not serious. They haven’t looked at the history. They haven’t looked at the facts they haven’t done anything at all except allow themselves to be tricked by a fat ginger Troll.

    Jack (ff1ca8)

  19. Cruz does have Shorty’s number. It is stunning how easily Shorty is reduced to a series of stereotypes – “New York Values,” no kidding. And I like Cruz’ commentary as a strategy, too. It is important that Shorty’s supporters understand not only who they support (and own), but who they, themselves, are by supporting him – they’re not called “White Trash” for nothing.

And what a well-deserved evisceration of Chrisite! Cruz’ words are important because they properly frame the refusal of Republican pols to get behind Cruz – all Republican leaders who fail to support Cruz are also, in effect, holding Shorty’s coat and calling him “Mr. Trump.” What a morally unserious bunch they are.

Yes, Cruz Supporter, I notice it as I continue my search for a site that goes after the presumptive Democrat nominee with the same ferocity it goes after Mr. Trump.

  22. I bet the Trump worshipers won’t even listen to Ted Cruz here. Patterico should require proof from the Trump worshipers that they actually listened to Ted before he allows them to comment in this thread.

Because they won’t do the former; and then they can’t do the latter.

  24. happyfeet is carrying the ball for us, attacking Hillary. For now. I don’t know what he’ll do though should Hillary announce that she’s for

    2. Mandatory abortions except for pregnancies of lesbians gotten through artificial insemination.

  25. i hate hillary so much she antagonizes me on purpose with her pee-smells and wretched policies

    happyfeet (831175)

  26. Of course DRJ is right. This is the primary and republicans are competing. Trump has pulled no punches, comparing his competitors to child molesters and smearing their families, promoted tabloid lies and violence, and even gone after a free press. It’s time to fight back before the primary is over. Hillary is less relevant. The general election fight will come later, and echo chamber pep rallies about Hillary won’t make any difference right now.

Going after Hillary’s only path to the white house (Trump) is effectively going after her as well.

It’s not like Ted Cruz had meetings with the Clintons before deciding to run, or invited them to his intimate family affairs or lavished upon them with more money than many of us will earn in our lifetimes. Party loyalty has its limits. I wouldn’t vote for Hillary or Pelosi if they had an R by their name either.

Also, the Republican party is badly in need of fixing. You can’t fix something you don’t critically analyze. Party loyalty must give way to honesty about what many Republicans are doing wrong. Trump is the caricature of a fatcat crony capitalist who defers to Hollywood and New York values if it helps him get power. The boogeyman of the democrats must not scare us into hearing no evil from the republicans.

    Dustin (2a8be7)

  27. Well, just as long as we have something left to pivot from, DRJ.

  31. My $.02… I’m not a burn it down to save it voter and I don’t put much trust or faith in folks who want to spend excess time on party forensics. There is not enough punching back three times as hard, exposing media bias, exposing candidate malfeasance and – in some cases – criminality. This isn’t a time for a “can’t walk, we gotta chew gum” scotoma. Do what’s needed and do it in an overwhelming way.

  34. Ed O’Neil, in today’s WaPo:

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz is close to ensuring that Donald Trump cannot win the GOP nomination on a second ballot at the party’s July convention in Cleveland, scooping up scores of delegates who have pledged to vote for him instead of the front-runner if given the chance.

The push by Cruz means that it is more essential than ever for Trump to clinch the nomination by winning a majority of delegates to avoid a contested and drawn-out convention fight, which Trump seems almost certain to lose….

    ….

[B]ased on the delegate selections made by states and territories, Cruz is poised to pick up at least 130 more votes on a second ballot, according to a Washington Post analysis. That tally surpasses 170 delegates under less conservative assumptions — a number that could make it impossible for Trump to emerge victorious.

It’s analyses like these — and this is merely typical of what I’m reading in many, many other places — which lead me to predict that the convention might turn out to be uncontested because Trump will boycott it, rather than walk into an inconclusive first ballot followed by a second-ballot blowout loss. I think the outcome will be that predictable by, or very shortly after, June 7th.

  36. Very good interview with Mrs. Cruz. I was surprised to see a lady who is so gracious, well spoken and quietly confident (as opposed to the bitter sexism, racism harpies in the other party).

I don’t think her Goldman Sachs position is entirely a sinecure; I can see her running things very well over there.

  37. As I was listening to this, just this moment I got a call from a Trump supporter, asking whether he could rely on my vote for Mr Trump, to show Cruz what real New York values were, or some such thing. I stopped paying attention once I realized what he was on about. I told him that no, he could rely on my vote for Cruz, because I agree with him about NY values.

Oh, and last night I got a robocall from Trump’s recorded voice. Haven’t heard yet from the Cruz campaign, but I don’t need to.

    Milhouse (87c499)

  38. Nate Silver’s latest state-by-state analysis runs three different models to analyze Trump’s chances of getting a first-ballot majority:

Although our panel’s original estimates had Trump finishing with 1,175 pledged delegates, my revised deterministic projections have him at 1,155, and the probabilistic version has him at 1,159.

Silver’s stuff is appropriately billed as “data-driven,” but the quality and quantity of the data he’s analyzing varies wildly from one state to another. Some of his individual state analyses seem quite probable and rational to me, while others are obviously (sometimes explicitly) major guesswork. But he’s certainly bearish on Trump now, as compared to a couple of months ago.

And while Ted Cruz is talking in Glen Beck’s kitchen, saying nothing of substance, (This will be Trump’s third try at the White House- you remember him being a big cry baby running against Dubya?) Donald Trump was in a meeting with Megyn Kelly at her request.
    http://money.cnn.com/2016/04/13/media/megyn-kelly-donald-trump-meet/index.html

Kelly is known to be seeking high-profile guests for a Barbara Walters-style prime time special on the Fox broadcast network in May.
Fox’s statement concluded with a line seemingly intended to defuse tensions between the two sides.
“Kelly has acknowledged in recent interviews that Trump is a fascinating person to cover and has electrified the Republican base,” it said.

    http://www.newsmax.com/TheWire/woman-jailed-uae/2016/04/12/id/723417/
An American woman has been jailed since February in the United Arab Emirates for allegedly using an “insulting” expression and will not learn her fate until May 2.

The 25-year-old woman, which the [state run UAE] newspaper did not identify, was charged on Monday with a misdemeanor for “insulting the country and its leaders through verbal assault.” The incident reportedly happened at the Abu Dhabi International Airport.
{Probably expressed something about hell holes and leaving} – pt.

If you were a 25-year-old American woman sitting in an Abu Dhabi jail, waiting to appear before a kangaroo court, who would you rather have as the President, pugnacious Donald Trump, who carries a grudge when wronged, or Ted Cruz who will send lawyers skilled at hopping, spinning, who look forward to the navigation and intricacies of a muslim kangaroo court?

Is that a serious question? Why on earth would Trump give a sh*t about her? And what could he do about it? Go to war for her?! The War of Jenkins’ Ear was 300 years ago, and even then nations didn’t really go to war over the mistreatment of their citizens; the ear was merely the pretext for a war that was going to happen anyway. Seriously I’d want a president who knows and respects the rule of law, including the respect due to another country’s laws, and who wouldn’t exacerbate my situation by getting into a slanging match that could only put me in greater danger.

  54. Why did a Ted Cruz super PAC give $500,000 to Carly Fiorina’s?

How about because PACs are not candidates, and the people running the donor PAC thought the donee PAC was a good cause. It was their money and up to them where to send it. Maybe they thought having Fiorina in the race was a good thing for the party. Maybe they even liked Fiorina and thought of supporting her as well as Cruz. The point is that it’s got nothing to do with Cruz. He doesn’t tell his supporters what to do, unlike Trump, whose PAC suddenly shut down when the FEC got wind that it was operating out of his building, with his direct involvement.

  80. Remember when the Cruz campaign was pronounced “mortally wounded” by Cruz’ firing of his publicity director? How many years ago was that, now? Seems like forever.

But regarding the management and organizational skills of the World’s Smartest Manager, who only hires best people:

Lewandowski is losing the tug-of-war, said a former adviser to the campaign, adding “Corey has been neutered.”

The resulting power struggle has led to a confusing situation for the staff in which there are essentially parallel organizational structures with separate, and often conflicting, chains of command, according to the sources.

“There are two campaigns being run in Trump world. And nothing is happening because no one is sure who they’re supposed to be listening to,” said one operative familiar with the campaign, who said staffers have reported receiving different instructions from Lewandowski and Manafort, or officials loyal to them.

Another indication of the growing factionalism within the campaign is the decision to limit access to a staff directory, so that employees can’t see who is being hired, according to an operative who has worked with some of the campaign staff.

A GOP fundraiser said Manafort is casting a wide net for prospective staff as he endeavors to build “an entire mirror organization.” But the fundraiser asserted it won’t be easy to attract many top-tier operatives, for whom Trump’s toxicity in GOP establishment circles remains a concern.

“The profile would be more that of someone who suffered a professional set-back or has been on the outs and needs redemption,” said the fundraiser, adding that joining the Manafort team could be a wise move for such operatives. “It’s kind of a no lose: if things go poorly, you can blame it on Corey and the other guys. But, if you somehow do save the campaign, you can take full credit. If someone pulls this off, they will be in the campaign history books.”

That profile fits [newly hired Rick] Wiley [formerly manager of Scott Walker’s campaign] to a tee.

Nobody could stop Michelle Fields from signing a complaint unless there was probable cause to believe she was bringing a frivolous charge (in which case she herself could be arrested). That is the “Tuesday next after the first Monday in November,” which 3 U.S.C. § 1 prescribes as the date for the national presidential election in this cycle.

  89. papertiger, this has been explained to you several times before—a few times when you might have even been sober. Yet you continue to push a false narrative in the interest of your deity, The Mr Donald.

  90. Gosh, Milhouse, calm down. Heidi Cruz worked on the Bush campaign and the Bush White House, and Ted had many important White House jobs too. She was connected. She is obviously qualified, too.

  91. Trump and Clinton are the undifferentiated scum to be found floating at the top of the DC septic tank which desperately needs to be pumped dry.

I find it interesting that a portion of Republicans who feel that way nonetheless are meandering over to the option (eg, a highlighted red link currently posted to the drudgereport.com) of saying that if the ballot in November does end up with Trump’s and Clinton’s name on it, they’ll be voting for Hillary.

Not sure how many of those Republicans are squishier than Jell-O or are generally quite conservative. If they’re the former, I’m not surprised they can stomach horrible Hillary since the electorate in general — from the left to the center and seeping further and further into the right — has gotten increasingly dumbed down and corrupted over the past 50-plus years.

If it’s the latter, then no way would I deem such people as truly of the right. Any conservative worth a damn can slam (and understandably, appropriately so) Donald Trump and, in turn, excoriate Hillary. But such conservatives certainly should never — ever — tolerate the idea of a President Hillary except in their worst nightmare.

  92. Mark, if Trump gets the nomination, Hillary gets the Oval Office. There are too many of us who will never, ever vote for Trump. And if someone votes for Trump in the primary, that person IS NOT a principled Conservative, has zero Conservative principles.

  93. 33. …Losing the primary?

Of course Trump is still ahead, but consider; since Rubio suspended his campaign on March 15 Trump has only won one state. Arizona on March 22.

Meanwhile Cruz has won Utah on March 22, North Dakota on April 1, and Wisconsin on April 5. We should include Colorado where Cruz swept all the delegates at the state convention on April 9.

In terms of delegates, since Rubio dropped out Trump has picked up 65 while Cruz has picked up 121.

I’d say Rubio getting out of the race was something of a game changer. Dustin is right; serious people won’t support Trump. Now they aren’t splitting their vote between Rubio and Cruz.

  94. There are too many of us who will never, ever vote for Trump.

John, that is a given. But my observation was aimed at the people who not only say they’ll never vote for Trump but also say they’ll instead vote for Hillary.

The type of Republican or independent who feels that way, as far as I’m concerned, cannot possibly be of the right. At least not the way I define truly conservative instincts. Such people have to actually be part of that large mass of Americans who’ve given horrible Hillary generally positive Gallup ratings for over 20 years, and, just as foolishly, have given the person she hopes to succeed equally positive (or at least not terribly negative) poll rankings. Even more revealing, they’ve given such crooked, debased leftists better opinion-poll ratings than the ones given to George W Bush, particularly during his last year in office.

This is why I think the US has entered its twilight years.

Are you serious?! How could any of that have given her the sort of connections that would make anyone suspect that she might be a good candidate for a sinecure? On the contrary, having worked at serious jobs in the past is a good indication that this job was just as serious. And nothing Ted did gave him remotely the sort of clout that could induce someone to offer his wife a sinecure. Who gets sinecures? The useless spouses of people with real power over tye employer. A state governor, or a legislative majority leader, or a member of an appropriations committee, or a cabinet secretary. Not a solicitor general, state or federal.
