Video: Robert Reich Endorses Cruz

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 7:28 pm

Sort of. At least, Robert Reich explains why you should vote for Ted Cruz.

“I’m Ted Cruz, and I approved this message.”

Thanks to John Hitchcock.

P.S. The line about Cruz approving the message is a joke.

  2. Ohmigosh! I’ve heard of damning with faint praise, but this was high praise with faint damns. Ha, ha, ha! Oh, you, Mr. Reich!

  3. An embarrassing ad hominem by Reich.

Lost all respect for Reich. Thought him a lib idiot but now a vile human for lending himself to that crap.

    No joke.

  6. Patrick, I see where you’re coming from, and I can imagine that Cruz might approve that message.

But I don’t think he actually has yet, and it’s not immediately clear at a glance that the material in quotation marks is not a direct quote from him, but rather your prediction of what he might say. No?

    Beldar (fa637a)

  7. It is a genuinely funny video, though, especially the bits about the 2d Amendment and the IRS.

    Beldar (fa637a)

  8. RKS: Reich has always been exactly like this. I don’t know how anyone could think otherwise.

  9. OK, so Robert Reich (must……….resist….Godwin…) has pointed out all of Cruz’ attractive points. I thought he was a Dem? He couldn’t have written a better “preach to the faithful” ad had he tried.

To be honest, I don’t. Had to have been equally goofy. This might be why you don’t hear much from him officially extolling the Dems.

I really sould be above this type of a joke. Oh- wait. I already am, by about a foot.

    Bill H (dcdd7b)

  14. 14To be honest, I don’t. …

    According to Wikipedia:

… Democrat Claire McCaskill, or PACs working on her behalf, also aired negative commercials aimed at her most-likely November opponents. Claire McCaskill’s campaign alone spent $1.7 million dollars in ads aiding the Akin campaign.[8] Democrats believed that Todd Akin would be the weakest among the likely challengers for the Senate seat, and ads attacking him as “too conservative” were largely viewed as a veiled support for his nomination.[9][10][11]

    James B. Shearer (0f56fb)

  15. Hi James Shearer.
Do you as an intelligent and somewhat “normal” American, RECOGNIZE, who and WHOM …CLAIRE McCASKILL IS????
Not a trick question, rather an honest and open query??
DO YOU RECOGNIZE the CHARACTER or LACK OF CHARACTER that defines Claire McCaskill?????

We spend a lot of time PRETENDING that the likes of McCaskill and almost all other Democrats are NOT VILE SCUMBAGS.

    What say you??

  16. I’m curious but on what planet does this work against Cruz?

    Steve57 (b30def)

  17. One presumes that Reich is addressing himself to malicious Democrats or independents in open-primary states who aren’t too excited about either Bernie or Hillary, but who definitely want the GOP nominee, whoever he is, to lose.

It’s basically incitement to cast a strategic spoiling vote, without wrapping it in that language. There are Dem websites that will link and promote this video, probably including dKos.

    Beldar (fa637a)

  18. Put another way: Reich is supremely confident that the Dems can beat Trump, no matter who they nomninate; polls back him up, it’s not a particularly novel thought among those on the Left.

But he’s terrified of Ted Cruz. And he should be, for some of the exact same reasons he listed.

The current Dem meme about Cruz, by the way, is that he will turn the United States into a theocracy. It’s a particularly easy meme to explode on contact with actual facts or Cruz’ actual positions, but that’s about the best they can come up with.

But Trump? The oppo research almost does itself. Hey Trump fans! Were any of you even the slightest bit dismayed this week when you learned beyond any shadow of a doubt that Trump has been lying to you when he’s insisted that he was on record as being against the Iraq War? No?

Okay, can you at least imagine how some less, umm, enthusiastic Trump supporter than you are might see this as evidence of him telling a big whopping lie on a key issue? This is, after all, his sole claim to having any kind of good judgment or smarts on foreign policy. (Unless you count licensing his name on foreign hotels, which I don’t.)

Well, then: There will be audios and videos and reprints popping up continuously between now and the day Trump is knocked out of the race, whether that’s done by a Republican candidate or by the Democratic nominee. Your guy blabs his motor mouth constantly, and he contradicts himself by accident even when he isn’t deliberately lying (which is plenty frequent, we know).

    Beldar (fa637a)

  19. I wish Cruz would drop all of his negative ads aimed at Rubio except for that Jimmy Carter clip.

It completely explains why I prefer Cruz to Rubio. “Marco Malleable.” That’s way more accurate than Christie’s “Boy in the Bubble” line, and way less nasty.

    Beldar (fa637a)

  20. I can even write Marco’s response to the taunt.

“I welcome that label, ‘Marco Malleable.’ Because you know what the opposite of ‘malleable’ is, the way metallurgists use that term? Brittle. Brittle means you shatter under pressure! Jimmy Carter’s never going to vote for a Republican anyway, so who cares how much backbone he thinks I have? I’ve shown plenty of backbone, but I can also get along ….” Etc.

  30. “First Take: History is now on Donald Trump’s side”

Since the South Carolina contest moved up on the political calendar in 1980, no Republican has carried both New Hampshire and South Carolina and then failed to win the nomination. Two of those three predecessors, Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, went on to win the White House.

The real-estate magnate once again won a broad-based victory, including finishing first among the evangelical Christians who made up nearly three-fourths of the South Carolina GOP electorate. He finished first among those who cited the economy and jobs as their top concern, those who cited immigration, and those who cited terrorism.

  31. Mr. Trump is making a very compelling case that he should be the nominee whereas other candidates are really struggling to connect with the voters for example Marco Sleazio and Mr. Ted Cruz

first term senators are super-cute in theory but in real life they just haven’t done the hard work it takes to truly establish a national presence

    advantage: Mr. The Donald

  32. I don’t know where the proper place to suggest this is, and I’m not competent enough at photoshop to do this myself. All good ideas are worthy of sharing, so here goes. Regarding President Obama, the things that get under my skin are his narcissism and his vanity. From pictures of him from Souza to his “I” comments or his “I won” stuff.

Anyway, I propose that a person replace all of those pictures with Trump in his place. Consider Trump sitting in the Rosa Park’s bus, or a picture of Trump looking at the stars at news of Armstrong’s death (even if the photo was taken much, much earlier).

If you oppose a Trump presidency, hitting his vanity and ego, perhaps could be the best way to highlight how Trump’s compass, like Obama’s, points inwards.

  36. In fairness, the “abolish the IRS” is kind of out there. Some government agency will have to collect taxes. Caveat: I’m intimately involved in dealing with the IRS a whole bunch. I’ve been a audited and I’ve been with clients in audits. But sorry, I don’t get that at all. Sounds great in front of a crowd. Doesn’t sound terribly well thought out. So we’re going to abolish one agency and then…create another to enforce tax collection? I have heard Cruz expound on the postcard tax return.

But perhaps worse the details get fuzzy. If you eliminate realty interest and tax deductions you impact the value of people’s homes, their primary asset. There’s an economic cost to that. It’s not very conservative to ignore people’s finances are based on that. If you want to make working and middle class Americans angry, that will do it.

    Bugg (fa64ec)

  37. I’m all for abolishing the IRS. And here’s my plan to do it without having to create a new income tax collection agency: Abolish the income tax.

  41. Prior to the income tax, the government collected and spent money. So, we have run the government on things other than income taxes.

Texas, Tennessee, Florida are 3 states that don’t have an income tax. And they still have governments. There are other states that likewise don’t have income taxes.

    John Hitchcock (71906d)

  42. You cannot run the US government on thank you notes and attaboys.

Actually, most of the US government would run quite happily. It’s the federal part that would have issues, but I imagine the idea would be to have a simple levy on each state and leave it up to each state to decide how to raise the money.

  44. An old man was sitting on a train across from a blonde wearing a tiny mini skirt.

Despite his efforts, he was unable to stop staring at the top of her thighs.
To his delight, he realized she was going COMMANDO

She saw him staring and inquired, “Are you looking at my vagina?”

“Yes, I’m sorry,” he replied and promised to avert his eyes.

“It’s quite all right,” she replied, “It’s very talented, watch this, I’ll make it blow a kiss to you.”
Sure enough the vagina blew him a kiss.

The old man was completely astounded and inquired what else it could do. “I can also make it wink,” she replied.

The old man stared in amazement as the vagina winked at him.

“Come and sit next to me,” she said, patting the seat. He moved over and she asked, “Would you like to stick a couple of fingers in?”

Stunned, he asked, “You’re shi++in’ me, you mean it can whistle, too?”

  45. Again, I understand we ran the government on a whole bunch less way back when. That was then, this is now. There is again an a casual unserious tone to all of this that would be death in a general election. And Cruz had better explain what you replace it with and how that will be done. Otherwise it could be viewed as cynical posturing rather than any real policy proposal.

    Bugg (fa64ec)

  46. Abolish the IRS is very common for us conservatives to seek. I doubt there is a conservative out there who hasn’t at least heard of the “Fair Tax”

Don’t write Cruz off just yet. The headlines scream that Trump is walking away with the nomination because he has 35% or so support. The math tells you that’s 65% that aren’t supporting Ol’ Squirreltop. Jeb has dropped out. Once Kasich and Carson finally drop out (Lord knows when that happens), the race tightens up and we get a little clearer picture of where Cruz really stands. I’ve seen any number of reports telling us that Cruz now has no chance, that with only 3 states out of 50 having had a caucus or a primary he should drop out and let Rubio take the lead position against Trump. I ain’t buying it. Let’s see what Super Tuesday says first.
