Dr. Ben Carson Going Home Tonight, Will Not Head to New Hampshire Or South Carolina (UPDATED)

Filed under: General — Dana @ 5:47 pm

[guest post by Dana]

UPDATE: Ben Carson’s campaign explains Carson’s oddly timed trip to Florida: “After spending 18 consecutive days on the campaign trail, Dr. Carson needs to go home and get a fresh set of clothes,” Ross said. “He will be departing Des Moines later tonight to avoid the snow storm and will be back on the trail Wednesday. We look forward to tonight’s caucus results and to meaningful debates in New Hampshire and South Carolina.

Wow. CNN has breaking news that Dr. Ben Carson will be leaving Iowa to return home to Florida tonight after he gives a speech to his supporters. The report says he will be taking a break at home, no matter how he does tonight. Further, the candidate will not be heading on to New Hampshire and South Carolina, but nonetheless intends to remain in the race. Carson will attend the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington D.C. on Thursday.

Carson has been polling at ten per cent which puts him in fourth place behind Rubio. Given that his supporters are strong evangelical conservatives, if Carson exits the race at some point (now likely sooner rather than later), this could bode well for the evangelical conservative Cruz: the Des Moines Register poll found that “a plurality of voters named Cruz as their second choice” to support.

  1. Hello.

  2. It is good of him to do this before the caucus.

  3. If you want to become President of the United States, you might want to re-think what the whole R&R announcement on caucus night says about you…

    Dana (86e864)

  4. Dustin,

I read that he made the announcement 10 minutes before the caucus was slated to begin.

  5. Love ya, Ben. Now, pack up your marbles and go home so that Cruz has a chance to thwart Trump.

  6. This just in: Carson NOT quitting campaign. Going home for 1 day.

  7. Back out on trail Wednesday. Needs to wash clothes.

  8. I’m sorry to see this. I like Dr Carson and respect him. I think, if nothing else, I’d like to see him as Surgeon General. He’s certainly one of the best qualified in a long time.

Yes, I am aware of his puzzling Second Amendment stance.

  9. Probably got a hankering for catfish and fried hominy.

  10. Only he has the secret code to his sock drawer.

  11. Kinda poor messaging. Candidates do drop out around now, so he needs to make sure he communicates if he’s still campaigning. He can go home and still be ‘campaigning’. There’s no real need to tell folks he’s taking a break, even though obviously all of them will take breaks.

Many of Carson’s folks are looking at other candidates now. Second look at Kasich?

    Dustin (2a8be7)

  12. Second look at Kasich?

What on earth for? That’s like saying “Second drink from the dribble glass?”

    Kevin M (25bbee)

  13. But the New York Times endorsed him, Kevin. He has a plan to balance the budget. Eventually.

And how does he plan to do that? The way Ford was paying their bills during Henry’s later years in Dearborn, by weighing them?

  15. Kasich loved him some NYT praise:

“When people like The New York Times say, ‘This is a guy that can bring people together and solve problems,’ I’d like to know how that’s not helpful. I think it’s really helpful.”

    Dana (9d174a)

  16. And how does he plan to do that?

The cool thing about promises to fix something eight years after being elected president… if you don’t do it, there is no price to pay. It’s like promising to save the last piece of pizza then eating it and shrugging when they ask for it back.

  17. “puzzling Second Amendment stance”

Most doctors who’ve seen what guns do to people in the real world realize the Second Amendment shouldn’t be a suicide pact.

    M. Bouffant (070142)

  18. Er, couldn’t he have fresh clothes shipped to him and ship the old ones home for dry-cleaning? I’d think that would be a lot cheaper and it would allow him to stay out on the campaign trail.

    Rorschach (8ddea0)

  19. Donald Trump goes home every night. He may have stayed overnight only one day in Iowa. That may be his only extravagance in his campaign – but it costs him very little sincve he’s flying around in his private jet anyway all the time.

Nobody ever said it was. As quaint a notion as the Second allegedly is, I never see anyone out there actively getting up off their ass and trying to get it repealed.
