Who Coulda Saw This Coming? [UPDATED]
[guest post by JVW]
Just saw an article on the Fox News website titled “German Mayor Condemns New Year Sex Assaults as ‘Intolerable.'”
Hey, reader, don’t jump to conclusions, you nasty Islamophobe.
Anyway, the article reports that on New Year’s Eve a number of women reported being sexually assaulted and robbed near the Cologne train station. There were a total of 90 incidents of assault, at least one of which was said to be a rape. Similar reports, though perhaps not to the same extent, come from Hamburg. Mayors from both cities are asking the public for help in identifying the perpetrators.
Stop that! I know what you are thinking here, and it is not helpful for you to suggest that they look for newly-arrived young men with beards.
Back to the article: “According to police, witnesses described the assaults as being committed by men of ‘Arab or North African origin’ who had gathered in large numbers near the train station.”
Well damn.
Naturally leftwing German politicians are rushing to demand that people don’t jump to conclusions:
Green Party lawmaker Claudia Roth warned against blaming refugees for the assaults. German Justice Minister Heiko Maas, who condemned the attacks in Cologne as “cowardly and vile,” also warned against hasty conclusions about the perpetrators.
“In criminal law what’s important is proving a crime, and everyone is equal before the law,” Maas said. “It doesn’t matter where someone comes from, it matters what they did and that we can prove it.”
In other words, let’s not revisit the whole idea that our moral preening about opening the floodgates to “refugees” “from Syria” could possibly have any negative effects on the German public. Instead, let’s go through the usual legal process and just treat this as an occurrence where somehow a bunch of guys with certain key traits in common just happened to all commit similar crimes at the same location at the same time. Nothing to see here folks. Even more banal was the statement from Cologne mayor Henriette Reker, in addressing the potential for more problems during the annual Winter Carnival festivities next month: “We will also have to explain our carnival better to people from other cultures, so that there’s no confusion about the cheerful behavior in Cologne that has nothing to do with candor, especially candid sexuality.”
Is it just me, or did Mayor Reker just suggest that Muslim immigrants need to be taught not to rape German women just because they have a few drinks, wear tight clothing, and hug and kiss their male companions? The left is wetting itself over the idea that anti-immigrant parties in Europe seem to be gaining popularity. Heaven forbid that European political parties prioritize the safety of their citizens, rather than grandstand for the sake of the media/academic/cultural elite that has bolloxed up things so thoroughly thus far.
But at least Frau Merkel will always be invited to all of the important banquets hosted by Time Magazine.
[UPDATE 2:21 pm] – Powerline also has a post up on this topic. They quote the BBC which reports that some of the men detained for these crimes are — are you ready for it? — “asylum seekers, carrying copies of their residence certificates.”

Notice how parties that question the conventional elite wisdom on immigration are now described in the media as “extreme right wing”?

JVW (d60453) — 1/5/2016 @ 2:18 pmThose spineless “leaders” need to sell their claptrap to the 90 women who have had their persons violated to one degree or another by men of ‘Arab or North African origin’. What vile people they are to believe they have the right to touch a woman whenever, wherever they want because they are women. This is the end result of “she wore a short skirt, she deserved it” mentality. Except that when it’s European natives (or Americans), it’s a reprehensible and absolutely unacceptable excuse. But when it’s Muslims, let’s don’t assume bad things about them. What utter bullshit.
Further, JVW, yes, they do have to teach the Muslim men not to sexually assault women. At least in Norway. Other European countries will follow.
So remind this woman why I shouldn’t be concerned about Muslim males from failed states who cannot be properly vetted coming en masse into our country? Turns out it’s not just the fear of them being terrorists that tops the list.
Whoda thunk, indeed.
Dana (86e864) — 1/5/2016 @ 2:24 pmI seem to remember in my teen years learning about the concept of “The Ugly American,” that obnoxious, poor-mannered, unsophisticated tourist who seemed to think that everywhere he went, things should be handed to him on a silver platter, and that hospitality workers ought to be able to communicate with him in English.
Seems to me nowadays in America (and other places) there is a much bigger problem: The Ugly Immigrant. He arrives in a new country having heard of the opportunities that await there after leaving his hellhole of a homeland, and is surprised to learn that some expect some semblance of assimilation in exchange for having the nation’s bounty shared with him. Wanting more than anything to maintain the culture that he practically crawled on his hands and knees to escape, he chooses to self-balkanize, only communicating with the host nation when accessing government services, when he demands intervention of law enforcement, or is the reason law enforcement must intervene. In some cases, families of Ugly Immigrants band together (as an organized community) and complain that their new home is not what it was cracked up to be. But most of them don’t return to where they came from, they make their new home more like the place they left in desperation.
Unlike the Ugly Americans, whose critics are just as likely to be stateside as in other lands, Ugly Immigrants rarely display a modicum of self-awareness. And of course, Ugly Americans eventually leave. On the other hand, Ugly Immigrants often drop anchor in the form of a bundle of joy that nobody wants to send to a backwater republic where there is no hope.

The Europeans abandoned this notion of assimilation first. Starting a couple of generations ago it was no longer acceptable to teach about the glories of your nation’s history to impressionable school kids. Britain changed from grand tales of a far-flung empire to apologizing for the “sin of colonialism.” Germany was weighed down by the sins of Nazism and GDR communism. France got so deeply immersed into postmodernism and other trendy Marxist philosophical theory that Lord only knows what they taught to their students. So generations of Western European Muslims grew up hearing how awful their new country’s history had previously been. Is it any wonder that they grew up having no respect for Western values?
Now stop for a moment and consider the influx of Muslims into the U.S. coinciding with the rise of the crybullies. I don’t think this is going to end well.

You see everyone, it’s OK if 100 Muslim immigrant men go on a robbery and assault spree against women, because this commenter knows 250 other Muslim immigrant men who are “friendly and calm.” Sure these attacks are horrible, but adding thousands and thousands of new young Muslim men to Cologne won’t make any difference. Pinky swear. This is exactly the kind of intellectual unseriousness combined with moral emptiness that is going to be the end of Europe.

They apparently do love it, but when you say that it’s just how they’re wired, I have to disagree. To me that implies that they are born this way, with the wiring already in place. I disagree. If that were true, then none of these criminals would be guilty of their sexual abuse of women. However, being steeped in a particular brand of Islam, as frequently taught in the ME and elsewhere, full approval is given to treat women abysmally in any number of ways. The left likes to say, oh but that’s just a small number of imams and clerics who teach that. It’s not difficult to do the research that shows otherwise. They are entirely responsible for their behavior. They should be prosecuted as such.
I read these statistics, and it bears repeating: beware of immigrants from particular corners of the world.

“This is Islam,” but Trump’s proposal to suspend Muslim immigration is “ridiculous.”
scrutineer (905d41) — 1/5/2016 @ 8:17 pmScrutineer,
I’m glad you pointed that out as I have been thinking about Trump’s proposal re Muslims not be allowed to enter (temporarily ) the country and giving it further consideration. My objection remains that, as far as I understand it, it would include Muslim-Americans who are out of country. How do you tell Americans they cannot return to their own country? As I stated at 21 (and perhaps should have included it at 23, but thought it was understood), I believe that it is a particular brand of Islam that seems to produce the heinous behaviors toward women we read about. Typically, these are not what we see from Muslim-Americans.
I will say that as the weeks pass by and more and more reports of this sort come out, the more convinced I feel like we need to do something. The reason I lean more toward Cruz’s proposal is he does not include Americans. He wants to only target those from countries that are under control of al Quaeda or ISIS – because that’s where the threat is coming from. To me, the distinction is very important.
What are your thoughts?

http://www.reuters.com/article/egypt-islamists-idUSL5E9C8ANO20130109
There’s a lot of misinformation in this article. The fact of the matter is that in Egypt it has long been common for Muslims to rape and even kidnap Coptic Christian girls and women for the purpose of forcing them into marriage.
Egyptian Muslims post videos of themselves degrading and assaulting Copts that they kidnap, degrade, and rape. They were and are proud of what they’re doing.
I won’t link to those videos.
This was true even under Sadat and Mubarak. And when the families of these women and girls went to the police, the police would refuse to do anything about it since the victims now “belonged” to the ummah.
If you read the article I did link to you’ll see that many Egyptians will tell you this is not Islam. The writers will tell you this preacher has been condemned by Egypt’s leading religious authorities.
But they’re playing a sort of shell game with the truth. They’re focusing on whether or not Egypt should have a Saudi-style morals police enforcing religious practices, such as beating women who go in public unveiled. They are not focusing on the rape of non-Muslim women. Egyptian Coptic women do often wear the veil precisely to avoid getting raped. It often doesn’t do any good; they’ll get raped regardless of whether or not they wear the veil.
I have an Al Azhar-approved transliteration of The Reliance of the Traveler, which is the basic manual of Shafi’i jurisprudence (the Shafi’i is one of five extant madhabs or schools of Islamic jurisprudence, four major and one minor). And it is true that it includes an essay condemning the Salafists as simplistic and idiotic. But it’s not very clear why; it isn’t as if the Shafi’i madhab is very different. How could it be? All Sharia is derived from the same core texts. There isn’t much room to differ. It’s all very much an argument over how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.
More to the point, while the Egyptians protest that their country is not Saudi Arabia, who is it funding the mosques in Europe and America? That’s right, the Saudis. It’s sort of a delicious irony that the Saudi regime is threatened by Salafist jihadis, because it was precisely the Saudi government financing the spread of Wahhabism that created the Salafist movement which is now backfiring on them. As they say, karma is a b*tch. But the fact of the matter that these Saudi-backed preachers in these Saudi-funded mosques in Europe and America do preach that non-Muslim women in west are whores. So now Stockholm is the rape capitol of Europe; Muslim men are convinced that raping non-Muslim women has Allah’s blessing.
Which is precisely how these Muslim men in Germany treated them over the New Year.
Steve57 (17e737) — 1/7/2016 @ 9:17 amI have a comment in moderation. [Comment has been removed from moderation. – JVW] I suppose for using a word happyfeet tosses around as a casual insult when it comes to female politicians he doesn’t like. I wasn’t using the word that way. I was responding to Dana’s comment @23 that these people are taught to see women as commodities and possessions, like livestock.
I was using that word to accurately portray the contempt Salafists have for western women. And since Saudi Wahhabism is responsible for creating the Salafist movement, and since the Saudis fund the mosques in Europe and the US to spread Wahhabism that is precisely what the preachers at those mosques tell their congregants about western women. Consequently Muslims in Europe and to a slightly lesser extent in the US have even more contempt for Western women than they are taught to have for women in general.
http://www.14words.net/2012/03/muslims-say-swedish-women-are-asking-to.html
Those four are correct; it is a common attitude among Muslim immigrants and their second-generation children precisely because, again, that is precisely what their religious leaders tell them in Saudi-funded mosques.
I think my earlier comment should be released out of moderation because my use of the word wasn’t as a gratuitous insult but is in fact central to the story.

It’s illuminating that Imams from Egypt to Denmark preach exactly the same thing about unveiled or western women. That they are asking to be raped. It’s a fundamental tenet of the Salafi movement, which is a creation of Saudi Wahhabism.
http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-28939089
Even now, these British authorities are burying the truth. Those personnel on the council staff had a very well founded fear of being labelled “racist” because they were threatened by their employers with exactly that, with all the “re-education” and career repercussions that would come with.
And they were going to be accused of “racism” not for identifying the perps as Asian, but as Muslims. Because it isn’t as if Hindus or Sikhs or Zoroastrians were committing these crimes. And not just in Rotherham, but as we have learned since all over England.
And these authorities, and those throughout the Western world will continue to bury the truth. There is one thing these child rapists have in common with the rapists in Stockholm and Cologne and Tahrir square all have in common. And it has nothing to do with being “Asian.”
Steve57 (17e737) — 1/7/2016 @ 8:20 pm@Dana, Trump spelled out that his proposal doesn’t include Muslim-Americans who are out of country.
The reason I lean more toward Cruz’s proposal is he…wants to only target those from countries that are under control of al Quaeda or ISIS…
Why should the default position be to let in anyone unless we suspect they will become terrorist-Americans? Diversity is bad, we are getting worse at assimilating immigrants, and the US becomes markedly more disunited every year. Muslims don’t add anything that makes up for the loss of social cohesion.
Our taboo against “discrimination” will turn out to be suicidal.
