  1. Merry Christmas to all.

My neighborhood has mostly boys and the clear winner this Christmas is hoverboards. They look like fun.

  7. Hoverboards are tres cool, and if only they were street legal here I’d get one. But with my luck, I’d be the only one to actually get a ticket.

  8. Hopefully the children of flint michigan will not die of lead poisioning thanks to republican governor snyner and his appointed commissar for flint michigan.

  10. Happy Newton’s birthday to all. Have an apple: it makes no difference what size, granny smith or lady apple, gravity treats them all the same. And then get falling-down drunk.

Oh, and never forget that the dose makes the poison. Lead, like any toxic substance, has a dose below which it’s harmless. Generally you can take the EPA’s recommendation and multiply it by ten, and then you can maybe start to worry.

  16. My family escaped Flint decades ago.
My aunt was born across from the old location of Flint Northern High School and my immediate aunts and uncles, father etc family graduated from there

  18. Merry Christmas from Saudi Arabia, Patterico. Liturgically speaking, we can say that until Epiphany. The holiday is of course not observed here. For those of Brit-free descent, Boxing Day is/was the day on which gifts were given to tradesmen for their service throughout the year. I understand this practice has waned; the day is most noted for juicy “football” matches. In the Western Church, it is also St. Stephen’s Day, the first Christian martyr–thus the lyrics to Good King Wenceslas.

  19. I imagined I was visited by the ghost of Bob Marley last night, with his terrible dreadlocks, and clouds of reefer smoke billowing around his head.
    But I doubt my senses.
Little thing affects them. A slight disorder of the stomach makes them cheats. He may have been an undigested bit of beef, a blot of mustard, a crumb of cheese, a fragment of an underdone potato. There was more of gravy than of grave about him, whatever he was!

But its not my party. When Nixon took 49 states I abstained. I have never given the party a dime.

I will not receive my reward for my ‘fidelity’. Jesus is my righteousness.

A lot of us will survive but not the Grand Old Party. “Being a grownup” means accepting reality.

  24. @milhouse, everything is toxic, it’s the dose that matters. Both oxygen (2x partial pressure concentration) and water are toxic, at high enough levels.

  25. Gazzer #16 & #18 – actually, potentially, yes … the after-eating walks are quite popular in my family (ostensibly, to make room for yet-more-eating) …

NeoCon_1 #25 – fortunately, the levels of nates and perrys commenting on this blog remain well below the TD50 and LD50 levels …

  26. thanks to republican governor snyner and his appointed commissar for flint michigan.

Meanwhile, that state’s biggest city, Detroit, has been a shining beacon of great management, superb common sense and true prosperity after over 60 years of straight leftwing/Democrat rule!

Liberals like What’s-His-Name, since they believe their ideology is so wonderful and naysayers need to be shown out the back door, should be required to move to places like that — or any similar community where over 90-plus percent of residents are of the left — instead of Hawaii (which is a bit less solidly blue than Detroit is). Live the experience 24/7, 365 days a year with Michelle and the kids (assuming they’ll be following What’s-His-Name to Hawaii, or wherever, after January 2017).

  27. People are born and people die every day of the year. Christmas is no exception. my sister, Teresa, passed away peacefully on Christmas day at 6pm surrounded by family. Someone in the room remarked “What a great day to enter Heaven!”

I couldn’t agree more. For me, Christmas is brighter than ever. Merry Christmas everyone!

  28. Condolences on your loss Felipe.

My own leanings are that there is never a good day to die.
Your position is likely more healthy.

  29. Felipe… Thoughts are with you, brother. You are an inspiration.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  30. Thank you for sharing felipe.
I guess your family has the perspective that “to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord”, and while there may be grief, it is “not grief as those who have no hope”.
Still, even Jesus cried at Lazarus’ tomb,
the Lord’s mercies and comfort to you all.
