Obama: That’s Not Who We Are. That’s Not Who We Are. That’s Not…

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 7:10 am

Of course, you could do this with any politician who has a canned line he repeats endlessly. (In other words, any politician.)

That doesn’t make it any less fun.

By the way, reminded of his low approval ratings, Obama reversed course this morning, telling assembled reporters: “As I have always said, that is who we are.”

  1. If you like your catchphrase, you can keep it.

Yet they still are (and remain) higher than George W Bush’s polling numbers ever were through 2008, in spite of our former president not being nearly as (if even at all) sleazy, partisan, dogmatic, incompetent, dishonest as the current one is.

I still recall observing Bush’s favorability ratings back during his time in office, thinking the country was doing fairly okay in the early 2000s (9-11 obviously not included, a moment in its own aberrant dark category), but with the Iraq war and the looming clouds of the stock market crash — and gas prices fluctuating upwards — as the only or main things that would dampen American’s spirits. But the US had yet to exude the qualities of a falling or fallen nation, like the Roman or British empire in twilight.

Quite a few people do fall for the idea that if a politician means well (ie, if he or she lean left and mouths do-gooder notions, do-gooder ideas, do-gooder sentiments—even if those emotions are all a bunch of crap) that will provide him or her with an additional amount of good will that conservatives generally won’t also be the beneficiary of. That’s why a society can fall apart more extremely and become far more corrupt under the left than the right.

  4. There is a mashup of Obama greeting foreign leaders and representatives – possibly at the White House – where in each instance, he says the phrase “… [Name of State or Territory] punches above its weight.”

It’s the sort of blasé thing that would be smirked at by a certain set were it uttered by either Bush.

But this sh!t-fingered Harvard Midas, this Ernie McCracken of a wordsmith, well.

Maybe it is the price that we all pay for a 24/7 Presidency. But couldn’t he, I don’t know, opt-out of being Mr Selfie? Haven’t his handlers and media people’s people kind of figured out that he is on television way too much?

Or maybe it’s not about them, after all.

  5. It’s sort of amusing to be lectured by an anti-American leftist who so despises “who [he thinks] we are” that he fundamentally wants to transform us.

The guy lecturing us on who we are thinks we’re knuckle-dragging cave men with racism in our DNA, bitterly clinging to our guns, our Bibles, and our xenophobia. And this is the guy who now pretends to understand and stand up for our traditional values he’s always loved so much.

    It really is funny.

  6. You forgot “umm, err and ahhhhhh”. His most frequent vocalisms. Without TOTUS, he is a pedestrian orator.

I don’t think so. I doubt seriously he could walk and talk at the same time.

  8. It’s funny how slavery has been prominent all over the globe for centuries, no millennia but somehow it’s only in the DNA of one of the worlds youngest nations. Hey Obama, you a$$, you know what’s really in the DNA of Americans? Freedom! That’s why we’re one of the only countries in history to shed the blood of the majority by losing over 6oo,000 Americans to get rid of slavery you mutt.

  9. It is curious that the president gets more and more delusional as he travels farther and farther afield. He’s obviously in his comfort zone when surrounded by politicians of a similar bent. It is also of note that the LHMFM gives him more and more coverage the greater the distance between him and the rest of us. In the present case, I think the hope is that the gravitas of his associates burnishes his credibility.

But they are all such buffoons. The last time the world was run by a gang of clowns with their collective imbecility was June of 1914. Thirty years from now the world will wonder how the western world could have made such disastrous choices. What’s left of it anyway.

  11. Reporters love him when he gives them expense-account trips to Martha’s Vineyard, Hawaii, Paris, Kuala Lumpur, and other fancy places. They hated the Shrub because he made them go to Crawford where nobody knew what a brioche is, instead of Perrier they had to drink Red Stripe, and little old ladies chased them off their lawns at pistol-point. 😉

Obama relies on his lazy banalities more than any other President I can think of. Another popular one of his is to declare any difficult decision he is called upon to make to actually be a “false choice.” And, of course, he is notorious for winning all of his arguments with the straw men that he so carefully constructs. He is way less intelligent than he is given credit for.

  13. Obama’s favorable poll number never goes below 45%. This is pretty high all things considered. As someone noted above, George W. Bush’s numbers were far lower.

  16. . Bush’s numbers were far lower.

I’d be willing to bet GW Bush’s numbers were the same if you remove the entire black race from the stats. Obama starts out with a 13% handicap. Take that away and he’s at 38-39%.
