“Like every girl and gay boy, I loved Barbie”

So says the creative director involved with the new Moschino Barbie doll. What’s causing all the ruckus isn’t the doll, it’s the ad for the doll – the ad which stars a young boy:

The ad for the limited-edition Moschino Barbie marks the first time a boy has starred in a campaign for the doll, appearing alongside an ethnically diverse line-up of little girls.

Fashions followers will notice the young boy in the video has been intentionally styled to resemble Moschino creative director Jeremy Scott, with a voluminous blond faux-hawk hairstyle matching the designer’s.

Scott has called Barbie a muse, telling Style.com: “Like every girl and gay boy, I loved Barbie.”

The ad is already resonating with other male Barbie fans. One of the top comments on Moschino Barbie’s YouTube video comes from RuPaul’s Drag Race star Pandora Boxx, who wrote: “This almost made me cry! I used to play with my sister’s Barbies and felt such shame afterward. I’m so glad we can just let kids be kids. Thank you for this! Boys like dolls too!”

“Busting gender stereotypes” by exploiting a young boy in order to make big bucks sort of says all you need to know about our current culture.

  1. Hello.

  2. Having two daughters, I had plenty of tea with the Barbie set.
    Ken included. No batteries needed.

  3. Eh. Today’s kids are going to put down the Barbie and pick up an iPad instead.

  4. Conservatarians supporting gay marriage, and then muttering “wow, just wow” at the results, says all you need to know about our current culture.

  5. Capitalism, they saw a potential market and went for it.

The boy in the commerercial is acting. Are all child actors “being exploited” or just those who are acting in ways you dont approve of?

    Gil (4e1585)

  6. Not all that long ago, plenty of people would have believed such an ad could not possibly be real but was instead a bad parody.

Life imitates art in 2015, starting with the scroungy “libtard” in the White House and going further downhill from that point onward.

  7. 1. Who or what is a “moschino”? I have never in my life heard this word until just now.

    2. That said, how exactly is this boy being “exploited”? He’s a paid actor exactly like all the girls in the ad. Are they being exploited too? Or do you really believe that boys shouldn’t be playing with Barbies, and will somehow be harmed by doing so?

    Milhouse (8489b1)

  8. 2. That said, how exactly is this boy being “exploited”?

His main tag line and demeanor are done up in a “queen” sort of way.

    Pathetic.

So? What’s wrong with that costume? How is it harmful? And how is it different from any other costume that he might wear over the course of an acting career, or from the costumes the other actors wear in this ad?

    Milhouse (8489b1)

  10. Oh, apparently it’s a fashion company. How do children young enough to play with dolls know about fashion companies?

    Milhouse (8489b1)

  11. life in plastic it’s fantastic

  12. Who says jihad is all bad?

  13. Here’s an ad that’s hard to tell if it’s selling something, or a parody of an ad.

Squatty Potty and the rainbow sherbet pooping unicorn.

Is it real? Watched it three times, and I still don’t know.

  14. her eyes are so pretty

    probably contacts i bet

  15. This has to parody.

  16. You mean both Milhouse and Gil don’t understand what is wrong with teaching little boys to play with dolls and become feminized? You guys don’t get it? You think teaching girls to be girls and boys to be girls is somehow good for society and America, let alone the kids themselves? You are beyond help and have deep sexuality problems. How could anyone believe indoctrinating little boys into sexual perversion could be a good thing?

They talk about defeating terrorism and snowflake college students need “safe spaces” and you guys want boys playing with moschino dolls?

    Rev. Barack Hussein Hoagie™ (f4eb27)

  17. I played with dolls. That’s where the girls were. After starting to plays with myself I only thought of girls

  18. I don’t think this marketing ploy is going to be very successful, except maybe at Los Feliz Daycare. Now if you gave a boy an anatomically correct life-sized Barbie ….

  19. Dad: I’m looking for a set of Barbie and Ken dolls for my daughter.
Salesgirl: Here is our Barbie section, and here is our Ken section. Do you know which ones she wants?
Dad: Doesn’t Barbie come with Ken?
Salesgirl: No, she comes with GI Joe. She fakes it with Ken.
    Dad:
    Dad:
Dad: What time do you get off work?

  20. Real life Barbie – something off putting about this.

Reminds me of the Korean pageant clones.

    papertiger (c2d6da)

  21. I used to play with Barbies, too. I had my GI Joe bang them.

    Peter (c60400)

  22. I thought Moschino was a cherry. Could this be a virgin Barbie?

    Peter (c60400)

  23. My doll wore olive drab clothing and came with a Garand, KaBar, and grenades.

  24. You mean both Milhouse and Gil don’t understand what is wrong with teaching little boys to play with dolls and become feminized?

The idea that dolls are for girls and trucks are for boys is just as arbitrary as the idea that pink is for girls and blue is for boys. Only an idiot takes either of these ideas seriously. There is nothing right or wrong about the toys a boy or a girl chooses to play with, any more than the colors or ice cream flavors they like. Whatever a child likes is equally good, and anyone who worries about it or tries to interfere has got their head up their bum.

    Milhouse (8489b1)

  25. Now if you gave a boy an anatomically correct life-sized Barbie ….

A boy (or girl) who’s old enough to care about that is too old to be playing with dolls.

    Milhouse (8489b1)

  26. Mt two year old plays with Barbies. They are usually involved in fights with his wwf action figures and what ever else looks human.

They also work well as sticks for his baby drum set.

    BradnSA (2312b5)

  27. They shoild try making a Barbie with a gun. It would sell out.

    DRJ (15874d)

  28. Greetings:

I’m still serving my deportation to the San Francisco Bay area, living several soviets south of what the locals, for some arcane reason, refer to as “The City” with those two inappropriate capital letters.

Out this way, the homosexual agenda has permeated TV commercials for a while now. Two that come mind are an IKEA one that includes a “loving” lesbian couple celebrating their “anniversary”. Somewhat more bizarre is a Kaiser Permanente (which is working through its transition from a decent healthcare organization to a propaganda arm of the Obamacare administration) commercial that includes an interracial male homosexual couple flashing their “wedding” rings. Not that are any negative health effects associated with male homosex, if you get my drift.

My prognosis is that even more are on their way.

  29. So? What’s wrong with that costume?

Milhouse, the little liberal voice in the back of your brain is getting the better of you. The adult-ification of young children is about as foolish and irresponsible as the teen-agization of fully grown adults. Or what can be termed the flip side of the Peter Pan syndrome.

You may not be as clueless as, for example, educators who want to teach kindergartners the specifics and importance of “how to use a condom,” but I have a hunch you’re only a few degrees from feeling “oh, that’s okay!”

    Mark (f713e4)

  30. They shoild try making a Barbie with a gun. It would sell out.

Liberals would suddenly snort “how inappropriate!”

    Mark (f713e4)

  31. They do, but they call it Lara Croft.
