Jindal Out

Shocking, huh?

Raise your hand if you thought he was going to win.

I see no hands.

  1. And here I thought he was going to be Presi OK sorry I can’t finish that without laughing.

  2. I didn’t think he was going to win, but he would have been a far better president than most of those still in it.

  3. I think that Jindal has been an honorable candidate and true conservative. He simply was unable to gain any traction and raise the kind of money it takes (to win the presidency). I hope that he continues to work hard to steering the party toward conservatism. He’s ending his second term as governor, so he’ll have the opportunities.

I remember listening to his interview on the Ace podcast, and he was very good. He’s right, it’s just not his time. I think that time was the last election cycle.

  4. Bobby will make a great Secretary of the Interior in the next Republican Administration.

  5. He’s ending his second term as governor, so he’ll have the opportunities.

I read that his approval rate is at 27% in Louisiana. I know that a second-term governor in his final year has usually alienated a broad swath of the electorate, and I understand that a lot of this has to do with some internal GOP squabbles between David Vitter (whom Jindal refuses to endorse as his replacement) and Jindal, but that is a pretty low mark for a guy who appears to have governed quite effectively and honorably.

  6. I liked him but he is not a good speaker and has not improved.

  7. I didn’t think he was going to win, but once Walker and Perry dropped out I hoped.

  8. Regarding his low pol numbers, he is the first R reelected to a second term as Governor of La, ever. The first R elected there as an R since 1876. I wonder how much the unpopularity is that he is looking for the next spot, after being term limited. All the articles I could find just state he’s unpopular because his poll numbers are low. Circular reporting.

  9. his refusal to endorse vitter shows a lot about how low class this doofwad is

    happyfeet (831175)

  10. You mean not low class at all. Why should anybody endorse, let alone vote for, some whorechaser? Ok, ok, besides “It’s Louisiana”.

    nk (dbc370)

  11. well probably the fact that crude prices tanked, affecting the state’s balance sheet, probably has something to do with it, also the leg scarfs up stimulus funds like cajun gators,

    narciso (732bc0)

  12. I like Jindal and assume his poll numbers aren’t low due to his being too liberal. IOW, far too much of the electorate (or humanity in general), when it’s dishing out the benefit of the doubt, will sprinkle it over even a crooked liberal clown instead of a tough-realist, tough-love conservative.

One of the major flaws of human nature.

    Mark (74fce8)

  13. cause of it costs him nothing is my thinking

vitter is trash but yes it’s louisiana

it’s a very very trashy state

    also one of my favorites

    happyfeet (831175)

  14. just not Monroe it smells weird

    happyfeet (831175)

  15. yes, that was foolhardy on Vitter’s part, but as with the selective release of Ashley Madison records it was awfully convenient they could only find one senator and a state department official

    narciso (732bc0)

  16. The entire GOP contest has been destabilized by Trump and Carson. Cui bono?

    Kevin M (25bbee)

  17. Unfortunately, appearance does matter, and unfairly, people tend to look at Bobby Jindal and think, “Kid who gets beat up at lunchtime.”

Cruz, for whatever it’s worth, is doing better, but he has a similar, totally unfair problem: People see and listen to him and think, “Kid who keeps breaking the curve on all of the class’s tests. I should like him, but I won’t, because he’s so much damn smarter than I am.”

    Mitch (bfd5cd)

  18. Jindal ran in part on cultural conservative themes but that’s a crowded space this time. Carson took many of those votes away and if he wasn’t there Cruz gets many of those votes, and there’s still Huckabee and Santorum.

    Gerald A (949d7d)

  19. I have a conservative friend from New Orleans who absolutely hates Jindal, but I think it’s because his family is close with the Vitter family and some other old-time Republican families with whom Jindal has clashed. Politics can get weird like that, especially in an insular society like Louisiana’s.

    JVW (738b08)

  20. People keep telling me that the voters are just dying for a cultural conservative candidate, but they are mostly no-shows, again. Only Carson, who is a pure play (having no political knowledge whatsoever), can get into double digits. But if being pro-life and a Christian isn’t enough, there’s not much there. I guess Cruz could still be the guy. He at least has some other attractions.

God, but this is a weird contest.

    Kevin M (25bbee)

  21. Carson took many of those votes away
    I bet that is true.

  22. I’m sorry Jindal’s out. He was one of the few who spoke straight and didn’t pull his punches.

  23. The remaining candidates as Start Trek characters:

Trump: James T Kirk after a few beers. Brash, impulsive, intuitive and lucky. His mother might have been Ferengi, though.
Carson: Deanna Troi. Moralistic, spiritual, nurturing, almost never offering a solution.
Cruz: Montgomery Scott: The man with a plan to fix everything in less time than you think.
Fiorina: T’Pol: No nonsense. Cannot believe how these humans behave.
Jeb: Jonathan Archer: So low-key a leader he takes his dog on away missions. Boring.
Christie: Worf: Not a subtle man, always willing to cut to the chase, ignoring details.
Rand: Hikaru Sulu: “At heart a swashbuckler out of the 18th century.”
Kasich: Jar Jar Binks. Sorry. Anyone who behaved like Kasich would never make into Starfleet.

    Kevin M (25bbee)

  24. Kaisch seems more to me like Will Riker at his most annoying.

  25. the first time that a non-incumbent candidate for governor was elected without a runoff under the Louisiana election system

    From the Wikipedia.

I’m no expert, but it seems like the Louisiana system is rigged up to protect incumbent Democrats.

  27. Who’s gonna get his 1%?

    Patterico (86c8ed)

  28. Sorry not that much actually

    Patterico (86c8ed)

  29. The remaining candidates as Chicago Roaring ’20s figures:

Trump: Bugs Moran, there’s a reason they called him “Bugs”
Christie: Al Capone, no explanation needed
Cruz: Frank Nitti, not the one from the Untouchables, the one from The Road to Perdition
Jeb: Mayor Big Bill Thompson, he did what he was told
    Carson: Anton Cermak, definitely
    Rubio: Sam Giancana, Nitti’s driver
Rand: Reinhard Schwimmer, a gangster wannabe killed in the St. Valentine’s Day massacre
Carly: Sorry, that was a man’s time

    nk (dbc370)

  32. The remaining candidates as Mexican food (yeah, I denounce myself):

Trump: a Burrito Supreme from Taco Bell; widely popular but considered fiendishly awful by purists
Christie: a bowl of menudo — if you like it, you probably love it; but few like it
Cruz: a really good chile pepper from New Mexico or Southern Colorado; has big-time devotees but may be too hot for most
Jeb: Corona beer; was once insanely popular and well-liked, but everyone has grown tired of it
Carson: Mole Manchamantel — if you don’t like it it’s only because you haven’t tried it because you are too scared to venture out into new flavors and just want to stick with what you’ve been eating all along
Rubio: the posole that has been cooking for four hours and tastes pretty good, but you can’t help thinking it would be better if it cooked for three or four more hours
Rand: a really exotic taco, like from sheep’s head or pig’s tongue; it sounds really good, but you can’t help thinking that it might end up being awful
Fiorina: one of those Asian-Mex fusion dishes from a food truck; it’s delicious, but you can’t help but think that it’s kind of pandering to the multicultural crowd

  33. Reports Of Gun Fire, Possible Explosions Near Saint-Denis Area Of Paris, France
    Story by Victoria Price/CBS12

SAINT-DENIS, France (CBS12) — There are multiple reports of heavy gunfire and possible explosions in the Saint-Denis area of Paris, CNN affiliate BFMTV is reporting.

Swarms of police have an area of Saint-Denis blocked off and residents are being told to stay inside.

French journalists are reporting this may be connected to a police raid in search of wanted fugitive in connection to the Paris attacks.

CNN and AFP are reporting officers have been shot.

The gunfire erupted around 4:30 a.m.

Good thing France is a gun free country.

  36. Saint Denis must be particularly galling to Muslims: a Christian martyred by having his head cut off, who (legend has it) simply picked his head up off the ground and walked away while proclaiming the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ as he departed the scene.

Apparently so, since they didn’t seem to hesitate in going there.

  39. Hey, I’m still backing Carly Fiorina, and she’s not doing that much better than Governor Jundal. 🙁

    happyfeet (831175)

  41. No! They are not related.

    nk (dbc370)

  42. Jindal was polling in Iowa at 2-6%, and was better than Bush in early November. Those are decent numbers that would help any of the candidates. His numbers were also rising but it could be that his lack of funds coupled with lagging organization made dropping out the only choice.

    DRJ (15874d)

  43. I wish Huckabee would do the same but he’s more opportunistic and self-serving than Jindal.

    DRJ (15874d)

  44. I liked Jindal and thought he’d make a fine President, but he couldn’t get the money. Maybe he could run for Senate or be on the Cabinet of a republican administration
