Memorable Democratic Debate Moments

1) Hillary Clinton exploits 9/11 to brush away questions about her long-standing close ties to Wall Street:

Sanders attacks: “Let’s not be naive about it. Why, over her political career, has Wall Street been a major, THE major, campaign contributor to Hillary Clinton? You know, maybe they’re dumb and they don’t know what they’re going to get, but I don’t think so. … Why do they make millions of dollars of campaign contributions? They expect to get something! Everybody knows that!”

Clinton pulls out a rhetorical bazooka: “Wait a minute, he has basically used his answer to impugn my integrity. Let’s be frank here: … Not only do I have hundreds of thousands of donors, most of them small. And I’m very proud that for the first time a majority of my donors are women, 60 percent. So, I represented New York, and I represented New York on 9/11 when we were attacked. Where were we attacked? We were attacked in downtown Manhattan, where Wall Street is. I did spend a whole lot of time and effort helping them rebuild. That was good for New York. It was good for the economy and it was a way to rebuke the terrorists who had attacked our country.”

Clinton’s campaign attempted to do ‘clean-up’ afterwards.

2) Bernie Sanders blames climate change for the rise of terrorism:

JOHN DICKERSON: Senator Sanders, you said you wanna rid the planet of ISIS. In the previous debate you said the greatest threat to national security was climate change. Do you still believe that?

BERNIE SANDERS: Absolutely. In fact, climate change is directly related to the growth of terrorism. And if we do not get our act together and listen to what the scientists say you’re gonna see countries all over the world– this is what the C.I.A. says, they’re gonna be struggling over limited amounts of water, limited amounts of land to grow their crops. And you’re gonna see all kinds of international conflict. But of course international terrorism is a major issue that we’ve got to address today. And I agree with much of what– the secretary and– and the governor have said. Only have one area of– of disagreement with the secretary. I think she said something like, “The bulk of the responsibility is not ours.” Well, in fact, I would argue that the disastrous invasion of Iraq, something that I strongly opposed, has unraveled the region completely. And led to the rise of Al Qaeda– and to– ISIS. Now, in fact, what we have got to do– and I think there is widespread agreement here– ’cause the United States cannot do it alone. What we need to do is lead an international coalition which includes– very significantly– (UNINTEL) nations in that region are gonna have to fight and defend their way of life.

  1. Hello.

  2. You have to be a special kind of moonbeam to believe this kind of idiocy. And America appears to be full of morons eager for Sanders and Clinton.

    WarEagle82 (7825e0)

  3. Stupid autocorrect! Moonbat, not moonbeam!

    WarEagle82 (7825e0)

  4. “Moonbeam” works for me! What a fatuous joke these Dem candidates are. And to call the exchange of lies a debate is a travesty. Bernie has to go back a dozen years to blame it all on Bush. Nobody in the room seemed to know the word “Libya” – the attacks on which were Hillary’s signature “achievement”.

    Ray Van Dune (351a9a)

  5. Dumb and dumber.

    Mark (f713e4)

  6. Well, no one ever claimed that Hillary, Bernie, and the supporters who lap that kinda garbage up were intelligent.

  7. to me , by far the biggest surprise was the way J.Dickerson handled himself and the questions.
Even WizBang didn’t complain about him.

  8. BERNIE SANDERS:

In fact, climate change is directly related to the growth of terrorism. And if we do not get our act together and listen to what the scientists say you’re gonna see countries all over the world – this is what the C.I.A. says…

You think he’s lying? That is indeed what the C.I.A. says.

    And that’s the problem.

And it was the C.I.A. that said there was a protest outside the U.S. mission in Benghazi and taht the attack was spontaneous.

Note: Sanders may be out of date. After the CIA said that, its climate research program was shut down after it came under attack from Republicans.

  9. Slightly OT but I had the TV on in the background while I did some online banking and a show called Cupcake Wars was on. The MC begins to introduce the “judges” and one is named as the leader of “Tree People” or something like that , and environmental group dedicated to saving the earth and the judge himself is in “close” with Al Gore and president Obama. So now these insidious bastards have even infiltrated Food TV programming? Now I can’t watch Diners, Drive-In’s and Dives without being proselytized or propagandized to? These people are ridiculous. They wear their politics like a sweater on a fall day.

  10. Always sweata weatha on cape cod because of the moonbeams…

  11. Wait a minute, he has basically used his answer to impugn my integrity.

objection: claims facts not in evidence: you can’t impugn what doesn’t exist.

  12. I linked this on the ISIS thread but it makes sense here, too, given Bernie Sanders’ statement.

    DRJ (15874d)

  13. that was almost as painful as watching beauty pageant contestants relate how they would make the world a better place

    Mike S. (f5d617)

  14. Even the in-the-tank WashingtonPost says it was EPIC FAIL by Clinton last night… especially her nonsensical explanation for accepting Wall St. cash.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  15. and that the fight against ISIS (or Daesh, for our weak-suck administration that won’t call Islamic terrorism what it is) isn’t America’s fight.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  16. objection: claims facts not in evidence: you can’t impugn what doesn’t exist.

    My first thought:
Alternately, Madame Secretary has already so good a job destroying her integrity no one else can do further damage.

    kishnevi (870883)

  17. sheesh, one would think that the H!C campaign would know the second rule: stop digging.

    seeRpea (71d373)

  18. Sanders impugned my integrity? She does a great job of that practically every time she opens her mouth.

    Bugg (fa64ec)

  19. Martin O’Malley-is his favorite team the Washington Generals or the 1962 Mets? Should walk around with his index finger and thumb forming an L on his forehead 24/7.

    Bugg (fa64ec)

  20. Numb nuts doesn’t begin to describe these three. Throw in a soupcon of “nit wits” and you may have a fair start.

    Comanche Voter (1d5c8b)

  21. HRC- “…impugn my integrity.”

Me- “Objection, Your Honor! Assumes facts not in evidence.”

    Jeff Lebowski (840887)

  22. Look what the Democrat policies and Obama administration have left the Democratic Party…their best and finest to run for the highest office in the land. It is laughable.

It is the perfect time to elect a true conservative and restore as much as possible of the greatness of the USA. Don’t raise taxes, but the belt must be tightened to pay for the desperately needed changes and improvements.

The world needs our best leader and he must lead the world…it will be bloody, some will go hungry, but this is the price we have to pay for the last 8 years of a leaderless America.

    Joel (1a09f2)

  23. WarEagle82 #2 – Moonbeam is currently Governor of California – and is also currently governing during a period of significant drought … during the last time, he governed such that potential efforts to improve and expand California’s water supplies *didn’t* happen, because he felt they were unnecessary …

    (sigh)
