“Chopped”: A Planned Parenthood Fundraiser Theme Gets Chopped

Filed under: General — Dana @ 9:30 am

[guest post by Dana]

In light of the Center for Medical Progress videos, there can be no doubt that depravity, inhumanity and barbarity are the obscene trinity that make up Planned Parenthood. Everything about them reeks of indecency.

Since the first shocking Center for Medical Progress video dropped, Planned Parenthood has been under fire. As a result of the slow drip-drip-drip of subsequent videos, the organization hired a high-profile Washington public relations firm to help with their battered image.

Along with that, Planned Parenthood and its supporters have been holding fundraising events to shore up the organization because clearly taxpayers aren’t giving enough to keep up that “crunchy” goodness needed so mama can get that new Lamborghini. What?? You think that’s a distasteful way to describe it? Of course it is. Now let’s look at the truly distasteful announcement of a Planned Parenthood fundraiser being hosted by a North Carolina bar:

Untitled-8

From the e-vite:

Please join us on Saturday November 14th at 12 noon for another exciting round of our Chopped: Bartender Challenge to raise money and offer thanks to Planned Parenthood!

Local bartenders will compete to design craft cocktails from a list of secret ingredients to be assessed by a panel of judges. Proceeds from the one of a kind cocktails will benefit Planned Parenthood so don’t hesitate to try each one!

We’re excited to welcome Planned Parenthood volunteers and supporters for an awesome Saturday afternoon filled with stiff drinks and competition!

Come out and help us support an organization that continues to offer personalized high quality care to our surrounding community — no matter what!

Although the fundraiser’s theme is based on the popular Food Network cooking competition show, Chopped, if you run a chop-shop that is in the business of butchering babies and then harvesting their parts to sell so you can buy a new car, choosing that particular theme and using a graphic that includes a meat cleaver is certainly the very picture of disgustingly bad taste. Of course, Planned Parenthood and their supporters don’t see the dark irony in this, but why would anyone expect them to? After all, these butchers make it a practice to never say the word “baby” in their clinics, but instead refer to them as irrelevant products of conception. So, “Chopped” and a meat cleaver for a Planned Parenthood fundraiser? Big deal.

But, in spite of that, isn’t it interesting that the meat cleaver has since been removed from the flier, and the word “chopped” removed from the e-vite?

  1. Good morning.

  3. I see a lot of “Chopped” when I visit my stepmother, so that was the first place my mind went when I saw the article headline.
Frankly, I think Planned Parenthood does enough things that are outrage-worthy that I don’t need to act outraged when they do something I think would be reasonable if a respectable organization did it. That said, since they did, in fact, remove the cleaver and the word “Chopped”, mocking them for not thinking about their PR decisions is perfectly appropriate.

  4. I’m still stunned that a North Carolina bar would lend itself to be the venue for this crap. What owner in his right mind goes all political at his place of business? Especially with such and anti Christian outfit like PP.

  5. Being a restaurant guy and needing to understand the type of operation that feels it has the right to interject itself in its customers politics I looked up The Borough on the net. The pic is the front and the site has many more. Very good reviews on the food, not so much service. Female owner (whooda thunk?). I guess the left is now taking over even where society eats.

Note the hooks under the bar for the guys to hang their manbags.

  6. yes yes this is how Planned Parenthood can get to where it doesn’t rely on government monies i love having drinks but not necessarily on Saturday afternoon but you never know

  7. Hoagie,

Of course it’s fine if a business wants to interject itself into customers’ politics, but they should know their audience first. That the flier and theme was overtly changed suggests to me that there were complaints/protests pointing out the awfulness of the selection, or people said they wouldn’t be a part of it.

They didn’t just change it on their own because they all of a sudden had an epiphany that maybe this might upset people. Because, why?

Of course it’s fine, it’s just foolish. Almost 40 years in the restaurant business and as many times as I was asked, sometimes by friends, to put an election poster in my window I never did. Not even for dog catcher. My job was to prepare great food and deliver it to the guest with great service in a clean and comfortable atmosphere. I was too busy doing that at my restaurants to choose sides in political contests. I did that at the polls. I valued all my guests and wished to offend none. I believe it to be bad form and lousy public relations to tie ones business to ones politics. Do you know how many hundreds of thousands of dollars I separated from the wallets of leftists I would never have gotten had they known my politics? It causes me great joy to know their money went to support my candidates and they didn’t even know it. Just as each time my wife picks out a new Bentley I quietly thank the leftists for allowing her the purchase because we know the vast majority of her clients in Center City are top 5%’er leftist broads and their metrosexual husbands/partners. We don’t judge, we just price the product and take the cash and the higher we price it the more these leftists want it.

  10. There are eateries that open with a political agenda , this may be such a place.

    How fitting.

PP would be out of business if women stopped going to bars for a few stiff ones. IYKWIMAITYD.

  12. …Do you know how many hundreds of thousands of dollars I separated from the wallets of leftists I would never have gotten had they known my politics?…

I always enjoyed that part of the business; taking money from leftists. Although I did break my rule of not discussing politics in a few isolated instances. I had one regular couple who always wanted to discuss politics. I tried not to get involved, but a few times I offered what I thought were bland, anodyne comments when it seemed impolite to do otherwise. And they immediately latched onto the fact I was not down with the cause.

You know how lefties are. You have to be in deep compliance with every part of the program. Just look at how the Dem candidates caved to the #BlackLivesMatter crowd. After they saw what happened to Bernie Sanders none of the serious candidates dared to answer that all lives matter when they were challenged at their last debate. Only James Webb broke ranks and said all lives matter, and he was never a viable Dem candidate anyway, and I think he knew that all along. All lefties know what the right answer is, and I revealed myself by not giving the right answer.

But they kept coming in, and I kept taking their money, so no harm no foul. Most of the time I just kept my mouth shut, but even then since I wasn’t enthusiastically joining in and parroting the party line my silence made me suspect to some of the more committed. Who would then try to probe, but for the most part I wouldn’t let them get to me.

Almost none of my guests were so obnoxious as the keep probing after I insisted on keeping the discussion on polite topics like sports of the weather. But a few stand out. Such as the couple above who were all in all nice people except when, as William F. Buckley observed in Up From Liberalism, something touched on their mania. And there were other isolated instances, such as one party that was apparently celebrating gay marriage becoming legal in New York, and like all such people insisted we celebrate gay marriage with them. The two very Catholic Vietnamese waitresses serving them and I refused to do so. And fortunately the party was large enough that the 15% gratuity was automatic (we always informed large parties of our policy).

  13. what really sucks about this flier is i have absolutely no sense what to expect when I show up at this bar at noon come a Saturday in November

what is choppy choppy and is it tasty and someone said something about lobster rolls earlier

lobster rolls are intriguing to me cause of I just had my first one recently

the bread was amazing but the lobster bit didn’t really sing i felt I coulda approximated the whole thing with that fake crab stuff

and for a whole lot less than $16

    I’m a try Shaw’s one next

    happyfeet (831175)

  14. Agree with your main point, but
1)I usually hear “chop shop” applied to those places that take apart stolen cars, etc.
    2) Not sure a meat cleaver is really reference to PP. More relevant would be Ginsu nknives and such as are made for slicing and dicing. And Forceps.

    kishnevi (28fa9f)

  15. Genius, I tell you. Sheer, raw genius.

    Richard Aubrey (472a6f)

  16. Bet you they took the cleaver and the word “chopped” off the flyer to avoid copyright and trademark problems.

    Roscoe (7622c9)

  17. Pro-choice/abortion, let alone Planned/cannibalism, aren’t tolerated in civilized societies.

Then again, served with some fava beans and a nice Chianti, perhaps.

  18. Kishnevi,

    You’re kidding, right?

    Dana (52ddcc)

  19. This bar is in downtown Raleigh, not really too far from a PP clinic. Central Raleigh is a blue, blue blemish on a mostly red state. Other leftist towns are Chapel Hill and Asheville. People who hang out at downtown Raleigh bars probably think the world agrees with them.

    It has been leaked
