Hillary Clinton: “I’m sorry.”

Filed under: General — JVW @ 6:14 pm

[guest post by JVW]

The once-and-future Next President of the United States, Hillary! Rodham Clinton, apologized for choosing to use a private email server and non-government account during her tenure as Secretary of State. Apparently her pollsters have concluded that her earlier insistence that she did nothing wrong coupled with her breezy insouciance in the face of potentially criminal acts are political poison (a judgement confirmed by having lost nearly one-third of her support among Democrats since April).

So just as The New York Times told us over the weekend that Hillary! will once again re-launch herself as just another aw-shucks down-to-earth grandmother who totally relates to the average wage slave, a contrite and (slightly more) humble Hillary! went on ABC News earlier today to apologize for her email fiasco:

“I do think I could have and should have done a better job answering questions earlier. I really didn’t perhaps appreciate the need to do that,” the democratic presidential candidate told Muir in an exclusive interview in New York City. “What I had done was allowed, it was above board. But in retrospect, as I look back at it now, even though it was allowed, I should have used two accounts. One for personal, one for work-related emails. That was a mistake. I’m sorry about that. I take responsibility.”

Do you think they are starting to panic in Chappaqua?

UPDATE BY PATTERICO: Hillary! on Facebook:

I wanted you to hear this directly from me:

Yes, I should have used two email addresses, one for personal matters and one for my work at the State Department. Not doing so was a mistake. I’m sorry about it, and I take full responsibility.

It’s important for you to know a few key facts. My use of a personal email account was aboveboard and allowed under the State Department’s rules. Everyone I communicated with in government was aware of it. And nothing I ever sent or received was marked classified at the time.

As this process proceeds, I want to be as transparent as possible. That’s why I’ve provided all of my work emails to the government to be released to the public, and why I’ll be testifying in public in front of the Benghazi Committee later next month.

I know this is a complex story. I could have—and should have—done a better job answering questions earlier. I’m grateful for your support, and I’m not taking anything for granted.

I understand that you may have more questions, and I am going to work to keep answering them. If you want to read more, including my emails themselves, please go here:

Thank you,
Hillary

  4. Like Mom told you, sorry doesn’t fix the lamp. And this wasn’t a childish accident. By design she had a server off campus. Everything flows from that. No other cabinet level officer, really no federal official, has ever done that. And the few who did take “Top Secret” stuff out of the office, John Deutsch and David Petraeus, found themselves on the wrong side of the law. This is way worse.

  11. Hillary is simply too incompetent to be the president. At the very least, you want a basic level of competency and awareness. She obviously lacks both. And given that she evidenced an utter contempt for the governing rules while at the State Dept., how can anyone trust that she would observe them while in the White House?

And although Fiorina said it referring to another Clinton issue, I echo her sentiment, “Boo hoo, Mrs. Clinton.” Too little, too late, too utterly meaningless.

    Dana (86e864)

  12. Great job, Colonel H. Of course, the cash gets washed in Bill’s nonsense foundation.

    Bugg (137ba5)

  13. Hillary is simply too incompetent to be the president. At the very least, you want a basic level of competency and awareness. She obviously lacks both.

That’s the Hillary! paradox: given that she is so conniving and ruthless you would think that she wouldn’t continually shoot herself in the foot, yet somehow she repeatedly manages to do so. Has there ever been a wider gulf between a candidate’s reputation for competence and his or her actual demonstrable accomplishments? (Answer: Sure, Barack Obama in 2008. But Hillary! gives him a run for his money.)

    JVW (ba78f9)

  14. 13.
Actually, the gap with Hillary is bigger. She has demonstrated incompetence. In 2008, his tecord was relatively bare. He had no accomplishments, but no screw ups in the way Hillary has.

    kishnevi (51ad16)

  15. Hillary is simply too incompetent to be the president.

That incompetency is closely related to her sociopathic qualities — namely, her off-the-wall dishonesty — that it’s hard to know where one begins, one leaves off. IOW, is she incompetent because she’s so mendacious, or is she mendacious because she’s so incompetent?

Someone with even a fraction of her sleaziness would have been booted out of the conservative camp (and perhaps Republican Party too) some time ago. That the left/Democrats, by contrast, allow her to hang around with full regalia speaks volumes about the differences between what makes them tick, what makes the right tick.

    Mark (dc566c)

  16. I was so hoping she would say she was sorry and because of all these problems with her email, she was stepping aside to let a better qualified candidate win for the Democrats. Yeah, that was wishful thinking.

Government is the priesthood. Anything that stands in the way of doctrine can be attributed to confusion about the meaning of the message.

Hillary has a problem as a High Priestess. In her mind, the only people who cannot understand her Holy Word are simply too feeble to understand. Yet, they get to vote.

    Plus no one likes her.

Unfortunately, I still can not see a way that she will not be the next President.

And made charitable work the focus of his existence for the rest of his life to make amends. That’s taking responsibility . In fact he wound up being way more respected and appreciated for that very great hard work than for anything he did as a member of Parliament and cabinet.

Saying sorry with nothing else is cheap grace, an empty gesture.

  32. It is time to take action The commenters and bloggers serve a purpose, which is to make people aware of what is happening.

But the reality of our situation is that until now and perhaps into the future, no one is actually stopping the destruction of our nation: the nation that used to stand for liberty, freedom of expression, and rights that protected individuals against the Federal Government. The nation that is now the last bastion of Western Civilization. Remember the Rule of Law? Remember the concept of national boundaries that protect the culture, language, mores, styles, or education of the children?

If you think this is over the top, then you must have been under a rock for the last years. And good luck to you deniers and your families.

I listen to conservative broadcasts, and liberal ones as well (they are hard to avoid). I realize that the educational system, or construct, is propagandizing a point of view that was never taught 60 years ago or even considered to be healthy for the welfare of our educational system, country, or families.

There are many analogies in history that might be raised. But that is an intellectual exercise. My point is that until the people of this country start eliminating the enemies of our way of life, THEIR way of life will prevail.

So to the action I was advocating:

I am for eliminating with prejudice the muslims who are among us. They are traitors to us, and value their religion above the rest of the infidels. Their invasion is actually a political attempt at usurpation of our way of life, be it Christian or Jewish, or atheist, or Hindu, or Shinto, or whatever. And there goes the 1st Amendment of the Constitution.

Read the quran, or koran or however the current politically correct spelling is. It is obvious from the idiotic profession of mohammed that infidels are to be condemned and put to death. The whole book ( if you could call it that) is a major piece of non compos mentis raving of a dictator.

I am also for getting rid of the politicos, by all means possible, who vote for this Iran deal, or support Planned Parenthood, Affordable Care Act, or (refer to every thing that has transpired for the last 7 Years), or the EPA, IRS, DOJ, Treasury, DOD, and any other leftwing bureaucracy that is currently running our lives.

Sorry I used euphemisms in the above, but I figured you would ban me for referring to a lead poisoning epidemic in the government. I really think it will take that. Elections do not matter anymore and there will be no change until the extermination happens. Remember 1776? The government that now dictates to us what we should do, or must do, or have to do, is so many times more repressive than King George III, it is not even open for debate, as the leftwing would say.

  37. Incompetence is a fallback pretense of the middle ground. After evidence has accumulated to expose ongoing denials as laughably disingenuous, and before the Fifth Amendment’s embarrassing shield is the only stonewall left to hide behind – incompetence – repugnant as it may initially seem is the only time-buying option available.

Hillary’s sorry alright, she’s sorry she got caught and if she has to pretend her crime spree results from personal shortcomings rather than from a lifetime of greed and premeditated malice, she’ll do it, and she’ll even shed a few crocodile tears if it’ll give her sycophants and accomplices in the media another talking point to shift attention away from the smoking gun of classified information on Hillary’s private email server.

  38. This is awful on so many levels, acid on the marble statuary of our culture.

When WJC was President, I was outraged by his prevarications and outright lies. To me, it didn’t matter if they were over “big” or little things. Don’t say anything at all, if you feel you must lie. Then I was flabbergasted by feminists forgiving the single worst case of power asymmetry in the history of sexual harassment.

But that was different, of course.

What it came down to was, progressives liked what WJC stood for, so anything he did was okay.

HRC had to baste in that environment, angry and resentful. Her paranoia increased. So she decided to control her own record keeping to prevent leaks. Which is ironic, given her history with Watergate and the House Judiciary Committee.

So, as the culture degraded so that rules were applied differentially, and the rich and powerful got to do as they pleased even more than before—especially if they support things the Clerisy champions—HRC just followed that descending path.

    So here we are.

Heck, I remember the MSM pressing GWB about apologizing. Now we have Andrea Mitchell saying this:

My use of a personal email account was aboveboard and allowed under the State Department’s rules. Everyone I communicated with in government was aware of it. And nothing I ever sent or received was marked classified at the time.

point #1 is a lie, using a personal email account for State Department business was not allowed by the combined rules of the State Department, Intelligence Agencies and the White House.
point #2 seems to be surprisingly true – no one called her on it.
point #3 is a misleading lie, as first off it does not make a difference if communications was marked “classified” if contents are known or should be known to be classified. secondly, the emails could have (and apparently were) marked classified before and after they left her domain. they were merely stripped of the marking while coming in and out.

    Bill would have done better.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Monssen_%28DD-436%29

…Following shakedown and training, Monssen reported to the Atlantic Fleet on 27 June 1941 as a unit of Destroyer Division 22 (DesDiv 22). For the next five months she operated in the northwestern Atlantic, from the coast of New England and the Maritime Provinces to Iceland, on neutrality patrol. Her escort and patrol duties changed from neutral to belligerent 7 December 1941, continuing until 9 February 1942 when she entered the Boston Navy Yard for overhaul in preparation for her transfer to the Pacific Fleet.

    https://www.mca-marines.org/leatherneck/chesty-story-lieutenant-general-lewis-b-puller

…Puller’s force moved down the east bank of the river through the narrow, steep valley and received some desultory fire from the far side. At 1400, Co E, the lead unit, attempted to cross the river at its mouth. The men were barely in the water when Japanese on the far bank opened up with mortars and machine guns. The Marines withdrew with six wounded. Chesty immediately got on the radio to report this opposition to his crossing. The division operations section offered supporting arms and advised that the Raiders were moving up the coast road in accordance with the original plan. In the meantime, Co E provided a base of fire for two assaults by platoons from Co G, both repulsed.

Puller reacted to the failure of his initial tactics; he called off the infantry assaults and resorted to firepower. He requested support from artillery and air, while Private First Class Johnny Smolka, a signalman from 2/5, went out to the beach under fire and used semaphore flags to contact USS Monssen (DD-436). The destroyer’s boat picked up Gunner Rust, who pointed out targets for shore bombardment. While high explosives softened the position, Chesty pondered what to do next.

  58. If anyone is interested the Navy gave the Marines a steak dinner.

    http://www.uscg.mil/history/articles/Munro.asp

After the initial landings at Guadalcanal, Munro and twenty-four other Coast Guard and Navy personnel were assigned to Lunga Point Base. The base was commanded by Commander Dwight H. Dexter, USCG, who was in charge of all the small boat operations on Guadalcanal. The base, situated on the Lever Brothers coconut plantation consisted of a small house with a newly constructed coconut tree signal tower. Munro was assigned here because of his signalman rate. The base served as the staging area for troop movements along the coast. To facilitate this movement, a pool of landing craft from the numerous transports lay there to expedite the transportation of supplies and men.

A month into the campaign, the Marines on the island were reinforced and decided to push beyond their defensive perimeter. They planned to advance west across the Matanikau River to prevent smaller Japanese units from combining and striking American positions in overwhelming numbers. For several days near the end of September, the Marines tried to cross the river from the east and each time met tremendous resistance. On Sunday, 27 September, Marine Lieutenant Colonel Lewis B. “Chesty” Puller embarked three companies of his 7th Marines in landing craft. They planned to land west of the river, drive out the Japanese, and establish a patrol base on the west side of the Matanikau.

The landing craft were dispatched from Lunga Base. Douglas Munro, just two weeks short of his twenty-third birthday, took charge of ten LCPs and LCTs (tank lighters) to transport Puller’s men from Lunga Point to a small cove west of Point Cruz. The Marines landed with the support of the destroyer U.S.S. Monssen which laid down a covering barrage with her five inch batteries shortly after twelve o’clock. Major Ortho L. Rodgers, commanding the landing party reached the beach in two waves at 1:00. The 500 unopposed Marines pushed inland and reorganized on a ridge about 500 yards from the beach. At about 1:50, approximately the same time they reached the ridge, their gunfire support was disrupted by a Japanese bombing raid. Monssen had to withdraw to avoid seventeen high level Japanese bombers. Unfortunately, this occurred at the same time that the Marines were struck by an overwhelming Japanese force west of the river. This situation deteriorated when Major Rodgers was killed and one of the company commanders was wounded.

After the Marines landed, Munro and the boats returned to Lunga Point Base. A single LCP remained behind to take off the immediate wounded. Coast Guard petty officer Ray Evans and Navy Coxswain Samuel B. Roberts manned the craft. They kept the craft extremely close to the beach to take off the wounded as quickly as possible. The Japanese, meanwhile had worked behind the Marines and without warning a machine gun burst hit the LCP parting the rudder cable and damaging the boat’s controls. After jury rigging the rudder, Roberts was struck by enemy fire and Evans managed to jam the controls to full ahead and sped back to Lunga Point Base. Unable to stop, the LCP ran onto the beach at 20 mph. Roberts later died but won the Navy Cross posthumously.

…With all the Marines safely in the small craft, Munro and Evans steered their LCP off shore. As they passed towards Point Cruz they noticed an LCT full of Marines grounded on the beach. Munro steered his craft and directed another tank lighter to pull it off. Twenty minutes later, the craft was free and heading to sea. Before they could get far from shore, the Japanese set up a machine gun and began firing at the boats. Evans saw the fire and shouted a warning to Munro. The roar of the boat’s engine, however, prevented Munro from hearing and a single bullet hit him in the base of the skull. Petty Officer Munro died before reaching the operating base, but due to his extraordinary heroism, outstanding leadership and gallantry, Munro posthumously received the Medal of Honor…
