New Yorker Cover Art: Diversity Anyone?

Excluding a black conservative male and a Republican woman who have officially announced and are actively campaigning? Where is the outrage?

The New Yorker explains:

How many Republicans are running for President? It’s a trick question. Some of those who are clearly running—Jeb Bush, for example—are still pretending that they aren’t, mostly because declaring would change the fund-raising rules. And if you counted everyone who, against all evidence, takes himself (or herself) seriously as a candidate, the locker room depicted in Mark Ulriksen’s “Suiting Up,” this week’s cover, would look as crowded as the departures hall at Penn Station, and almost as disconcerting. As it is, Ulriksen presents seven contenders with seven varieties of preening. Maybe it’s hard to tell a vision for America from a delusion of grandeur, at least until the debates and primaries get under way. Until then, Marco Rubio’s got his phone, Rand Paul his comb, and Huckabee his Bible. Ted Cruz’s eyes flit between his copy of the Constitution and his mirror, while Scott Walker seems on the lookout for unionized gym attendants. Bush is wearing his dynasty-logo boxers and Chris Christie his put-me-in-now pout. And yet, somehow, one of these seven men is almost certainly right about his chances for the nomination. The primary campaign may look like a pickup game about to descend into a brawl, but there’s a national candidate somewhere in the lineup.

Chris Christie and Jeb Bush have not even officially announced.

  1. Hello.

    Dana (86e864)

  2. And how come they show Hillary trying to get into that locker room? She is a
Democrat right? And they have their own locker room. One that’s kind of empty and
    not very DIVERSE either.

But then what do we expect from the left? Fairness? Equal treatment? Balance?
    Facts? Truth?

    Please. Are you all NEW?

  4. This insightful cover will certainly ensure brisk sales at the commuter train stations and news kiosks in every nook and cranny of the city that never sleeps. Heck, it might even cause a resurgence in subscriptions on the Upper West Side, or at least early bedtimes for the fortunately situated few. Where else could caring cosmopolitan commuters get affordable access to this kind of insider information so quickly and at the bargain price of only seven dollars and ninety-nine cents?

  5. Hillary! is glaring in from penis envy. Lezzies do that. After all, she puts her pants suit on one leg at a time.

  8. As though she’d have any interest in peeking into the men’s locker room.

  9. 8.As though she’d have any interest in peeking into the men’s locker room.

I figure she’s checking for when she makes the transgendered switch. Think of it: The First Woman Man/Woman Prsident. Could she then run for two more terms?

    Hoagie (f4eb27)

  10. The bit about showing Hillary! at the door is just a reminder of the War on Wymyn of which the r’s are supposed to be guilty – also explains the men only locker room.

  12. In New Yorker universe, Carson is probably in the Black locker room.

  13. Johnny -‘do you think that is a fair representation? Do you think it was an accident they left a woman, and a famous African American out of the group? Are you trying to be a twatwaffle, or does it come naturally?

  14. Frankly, the new Yorker ceased to be relevant a decade ago. I don’t even see them in doctor’s offices any longer.

  16. JD@13 – I don’t even know what the hell it’s supposed to mean, honestly. They also failed to have Jim Webb and Bernie Sanders peering into the locker room. Who cares? It’s completely insignificant. Do you really consider this “outrageous”?

    Jonny Scrum-half (4771bc)

  17. Jonny, I don’t think anybody considers this “outrageous”, do you? I believe Dana’s comment: “Excluding a black conservative male and a Republican woman who have officially announced and are actively campaigning? Where is the outrage?, is rhetorical. Or don’t you get that? You leftists gotta stop being so serious and looking for the Boogieman in every comment and opinion. Jeesh.

  18. huckabee is so gross he shouldn’t be on a magazine cover unless it’s a Josh Duggar fanzine where he licks Josh’s toes and whips him up one of them tasty jello desserts Mr. Cosby used to natter on about betwixt rapings

  25. OT, but Do any of you remember Denny Hastert? He is currently a lobbyist in Washington.

FORMER SPEAKER OF THE UNITED STATES HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CHARGED WITH STRUCTURING CASH WITHDRAWALS TO EVADE CURRENCY TRANSACTION REPORTING REQUIREMENTS AND MAKING FALSE STATEMENT TO THE FBI

CHICAGO — The former Speaker of the United States House of Representatives was charged today with structuring the withdrawal of $952,000 in cash in order to evade the requirement that banks report cash transactions over $10,000, and lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about his withdrawals. The defendant, JOHN DENNIS HASTERT, 73, of Plano, Illinois, was charged with one count each of structuring currency transactions to evade Currency Transaction Reports and making a false statement to the FBI in an indictment returned by a federal Grand Jury. He will be ordered to appear for arraignment on a later date in U.S. District Court.

According to the indictment, in 2010, Hastert agreed to provide Individual A $3.5 million in order to compensate for and conceal his prior misconduct against Individual A. From 2010 to 2014, Hastert withdrew a total of approximately $1.7 million in cash from various bank accounts and provided it to Individual A. Beginning in approximately July 2012, Hastert started structuring his cash withdrawals in increments of less than $10,000 to evade the filing of Currency Transaction Reports (“CTRs”), which banks are required to file for cash withdrawals in excess of $10,000. In December of 2014, when questioned by the FBI regarding his structuring of cash withdrawals, Hastert falsely stated that he was keeping the cash.
Each count of the indictment carries a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. If convicted, the Court must impose a reasonable sentence under federal statutes and the advisory United States Sentencing Guidelines.

The government is being represented by Assistant United States Attorneys Steven Block and Carrie Hamilton.

The public is reminded that an indictment contains only charges and is not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the government has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

    Here is the indictment.

  28. JD–the rumors are flying that the payments involved some sort of blackmail or hush money to bury something that may have happened years ago before Hastert was even in politics. There are some tantalizing statements in the indictment about him being a teacher and coach. Whether there is something serious and dark in his past or if he is the victim of yet another overzealous political witch hunt remains to be seen. It will be interesting to follow.

But it and the D’Souza thing set a low bar for what the Cruz administration’s 57 special counsels might dig up. Does anyone think that Al Sharpton would be squeaky clean?

  37. so from merely aesthetic purposes, what’s the vantage point, hillary is peering in, so she can’t be the viewer, the far wall would block any view,

    narciso (ee1f88)

  38. BTW, is that really Hillary looking in, or is it Fiorina being locked out of the boy’s club by all those white and white-Hispanic men.

On a related topic I was at my local DMV today. 100% diverse.

    Kevin M (25bbee)

  39. Hastert was a dues paid member of the Illinois Combine and I would not be surprised if there was a real scandal.

Of course, it would be random chance of anything real with this DoJ.

    Mike K (4acf73)

  40. I wonder if any of the nitwit lefty media will ever show any interest in the presumptive Democrat nominee’s non-existent record of achievement, her flouting of the law, her phony “Charity” that serves as a slush fund and river of income for their fellow-travelers in between appointments to no-show government jobs, her husband setting up a shell corp to funnel money into his personal bank account within two days of Hillary! being named Sec of State, etc, etc, ad nauseum?

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  41. There was extortion going on there w/Hastert. And they go after him and let the Clintons slimy-slide?

  45. So, if you pay a blackmailer $9K/week it’s “structuring transfers to avoid banking requirements.” Lying about paying blackmail is a crime. I wonder if they’ll let the blackmailer off if he testifies.

  48. I am really not a conspiracy type person, but really? Everyone has been aware of the Clinton Foundation and all of the sudden, we have a former Rethuglican doing something for a distraction for tomorrow’s news?

No one cared about Hastert when he was majority leader. Something is hitting too close to home and the left-media machine is hitting about four-cylinders short of a small block Chevy with this one.
