Snuffleupagus Donated to Clinton Foundation and Failed to Disclose It

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 12:22 pm

Then went on a jihad against Peter Schweizer, saying he had proved nothing with his book about Hillary and the Clinton Foundation.

…which Georgie had contributed to.

ABC says no harm no foul. We’ll see.

  6. Time for the 2016 Republican candidates to make a list–starting with George S., Candy Crowley, and any current or former MSNBC employees along with anyone else of similar *ahem* “standards”–and add a paragraph at the end of it: “We will not participate in any debates or other events where any of these individuals is a moderator or a panelist. Period.”

    M. Scott Eiland (a742b7)

  7. Wow. Despite his long history with the Clintons and his obvious liberal bias I am genuinely surprised–not that he donated, but that he got caught not disclosing this donation. I really thought he was smarter than that.

  13. The RNC made noises about having more friendly moderators in GOP primary debates. We’ll see how that goes. I sure would like to see GOP candidates grilled by Krauthammer, Hannity, Hume and such.

Maybe even a blogger panel: Ace, Insty, our host, etc.

Of course, maybe that abuses the idea of “friendly.”

  15. In its own statement on Thursday, ABC News said it was standing behind its star anchor.

“As George has said, he made charitable donations to the Foundation to support a cause he cares about deeply and believed his contributions were a matter of public record,” the network’s statement read. “He should have taken the extra step to notify us and our viewers during the recent news reports about the Foundation. He’s admitted to an honest mistake and apologized for that omission. We stand behind him.”

so it’s not just sleazy George

but the whole news apparatus of sleazy sleazy Disney is going on record saying that the “Clinton Foundations” is utterly without question a bona fide charuity

and not in fact a slush fund for a slutty and herpetic ex-president, his ethically challenged whore wife, and his sleazy no-talent daughter

what this tells us is that ABC as a whole simply can’t be trusted to report fairly on this going forward

I could have chased her all day. It wouldn’t have done any good.

  23. Per the Tribune:

On Thursday, Stephanopoulos apologized in a statement and said he would not moderate the GOP debate ABC is hosting in New Hampshire in February.

“I made charitable donations to the Foundation in support of the work they’re doing on global AIDS prevention and deforestation, causes I care about deeply,” he said. “I thought that my contributions were a matter of public record. However, in hindsight, I should have taken the extra step of personally disclosing my donations to my employer and to the viewers on air during the recent news stories about the Foundation. I apologize.”

His decision not to moderate the debate came after Sen. Rand Paul threatened to boycott the event. Others called for Stephanopoulos to recuse himself from all coverage of 2016, which he said he would not do.

    elissa (564b62)

  24. His donations, that he forgot about, are now up to 75,000 over 3 years. One might think that he would need to inform his employer of such a conflict, though it has been self evident since the day he started.

    JD (ef7925)

  25. This leaves David Axelrod, unbiased journalist.

    Steve57 (e468ba)

  26. there’s no way he forgot JD

every single time he thinks about deforestation, which he cares about deeply (so this must happen several times every day), he most certainly consoles himself by reflecting on all the trees he and his Clinton friends are saving with his $75,000

if he truly forgot then there’d be evidence that he’d sent in another $75,000 for to help the trees

but there isn’t (that we know of)

    happyfeet (a037ad)

  27. JD, in my opinion Steph’s ethics issues are much greater than Brian Williams’ fables, most of which were primarily meant to just make himself look bigger and braver and cooler. Steph is consciously managing and shaping political narrative in order to influence the American public and future elections.

    elissa (564b62)

  28. it’s not just George though elissa

ABC News is covering for him, so anybody they replace him with is equally as suspect

these people have no journalistic ethics

remember this is the sleazy outfit what hired racist hack Mark Halperin as their political director

    happyfeet (a037ad)

  29. oh. actually no is this model

    happyfeet (a037ad)

  30. I understand his plight. Obviously the Clinton Foundation is the only charity in the world trying to tackle the global AIDS crisis and deforestation. He had no choice, right?

    Beasts of England (0e7bb1)

  31. Mr. John Nolte gets it right about the complicity of ABC News in all of this tawdry and unethical business

    happyfeet (a037ad)

  32. Just so it is clear, this asshattery does not prove he is a biased unethical hack. That has been established for some time now. From his history in the Clinton White House. To his gotcha birth control planted question to Romney, to his recent claims of investigative reporting on the foundation that he forgot he was donating to.

We all know they don’t self-disclose. It would be interesting to see who else in the MFM donated to the vast Clinton slush fund for trees. Or other campaigns. It would be eye-opening,’to some

    JD (3b5483)

  33. They will probably replace him as moderator with Chelsea Clinton.

    Kevin M (25bbee)

  34. So. 75,000 in donations due to his dearly held concerns of deforestation and AIDS. If you assume half of the donation for each topic, he sent 37,500 for deforestation. Now, since around 15 cents on the dollar is actually spent on the charitable cause, i realize I am giving them the benefit of the doubt, around 5625 went to the precious trees. With 10 minutes on Google I could find 10 ways to more effectively get 5600 to help fight the evils of deforestation.

    JD (3b5483)

Aw, JD, that is totally unfair. Sure the Clinton Global Initiative doesn’t generally give direct funding to to these charitable causes, but you’re overlooking the fact that they send a private jet with “expert” foundation staff to these affected areas who stay in luxury hotels and have half-day meetings with various local leaders where they exchange their “expertise” and provide “invaluable advice” and then all go for a photo-op where they manage to look concerned yet optimistic about the future. Why sometimes even Big Bubba himself or young Chelsea (who is totally not concerned with money, by the way) tags along to show just how important this issue is to the foundation!

I mean, gosh, why would anyone want cold hard cash when they could have a visit from the Clinton Foundation “experts”? That’s why that 85% overhead figure is totally justified!

    JVW (27e4a7)

  41. who wouldn’t contribute to a slush fund set up to benefit “unemployed” – read between appointed fed government no-show jobs – to fight AIDS and de-forestation?

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  42. Considering Stephanopolous learned how to lie, cheat, manipulate and steal while at the feet of the master (Bill), he was either not a very good student and didn’t think about this (uh-huh….) or in typical Clinton fashion, believed himself untouchable and above reproach, no matter how dishonestly he behaved. Clearly, he learned well.

But at least we can yet once again say, let’s not hear one more damn word about an unbiased and objective media. No one’s buying the bullshit except those spouting the bullshit.

  45. According to The Hill, The Donald and his daughter Ivanka contributed to the foundation also. Interestingly, their names are prominently listed on the Clinton Foundation website. I imagine other prominent names will surface to help cloud the issue. Considering the “friendship” between their families and the several joint efforts of ex-presidents George H W Bush and William J Clinton, I wonder if any Bushes will show up in the donation records.

NEW YORK (AP) — ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos will not moderate a Republican presidential debate next winter, part of the fallout after revelations that the network’s top political anchor contributed $75,000 over a three-year period to the Clinton Foundation.

Stephanopoulos voluntarily stepped away from the Feb. 6 debate, ABC News spokeswoman Heather Riley said Thursday.

Sorry Not Sorry: Stephanopolous Says He Won’t Moderate Debates, Just to Avoid Being a “Distraction,” But He’s Damnsure Going to Be “Covering” His Former Boss and Recent Recipient of His Donations

As @Tark31 said on Twitter: The media’s “F*** You” machine kicks into fourth gear.

Meanwhile, it just so happens that a former campaign manager of Hillary Clinton, who managed several of her state campaigns in 2008, was an intern for George Stephanopolous…

    OT.
While waiting for my connecting flight in Charlotte, I found myself listening in to a guy on a cell phone. Turns out he was an ATF agent (or else FBI working with ATF) working arson cases, and much of the conversation turned on a current case. It seems they are working up a case against two white men who decided the rioting in Baltimore was a golden opportunity to burn down one of the businesses there. Apparently it was meant to harm the owner, and not someone trying to get away with insurance fraud. So at least one of those fires we saw in Baltimore was not set by the rioters.

Amazing how people will talk on a cell phone as if no one can overhear them.

BTW, being a Fed, he made sure he was the first passenger to board. Even before the disabled passengers.
