Baltimore Mayor Allegedly Gave Order To “Let Them Loot, It’s Only Property”

Filed under: General — Dana @ 5:18 pm

[guest post by Dana]

Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake is under fire for allegedly giving a direct order to law enforcement officers regarding the rioters, telling them to “let them loot, it’s only property”. This according to a “very senior law enforcement officer with direct knowledge of the orders given by the mayor and her police commanders…”

Asked directly if the mayor was the one who gave that order, the source said: “You are God damn right it was.”

  1. Hello.

  2. As a non-lawyer I’ve heard that government cannot be sued for failing to do something. filling a pothole for example. But does this level of neglect open them to suit from the property owners? Varies by state I’m sure.

It’s been stated by courts that police do not have a duty to protect you. So I don’t think that any action can be taken in court by property owners against the mayor or the city. The only possible redress is voting her out in the next election.

    happyfeet,

I think the business owners of Baltimore would beg to differ. Seriously so.

Also, how much depth and knowledge is required to have to make a decision to allow people to loot? Why is that even a choice in the first place? Shouldn’t the default be to arrest looters? Do you believe the LEOs concurred with such a decision or do you believe they were ardently against such allowances?

    Dana (86e864)

  10. I know it would be an impossibility but a Rasmussen-type poll with questions for “everyday Baltimorians” (sorry, couldn’t resist) that looked for specifics about how they view the looting and mayhem, the condition of their city, how they rate the performance of the city government and mayor, and the performance of the police immediately following the Gray funeral, and how much or little they were personally affected by all this, might be instructive. We’ve heard from the leftist bloggers and a few old pols, and the president, and have seen the looters on twitter, etc. But even the decent news reports like from the Baltimore Sun don’t really offer a good or clear handle on the overall mood of the city.

  12. This reminds me of Jean Quan, mayor of Oakland who told the cops to back off when the Occupiers when the Occupiers were vandalizing businesses and shutting down the port of Oakland.

Turned out her hubbie and daughter were amongst the protesters.

Who in their right mind would open a business in Baltimore run by Democrats like mayor Stephanie “it’s only property” Rawlings-Blake or Jean “Occupy!” Quan?

I’m sick and tired as a business owner who makes a five figure salary while employing a dozen people of being accused of exploiting the working class. By rich socialists who make six figures feeding at the public trough and don’t employ anybody. Not on their own dime.

You got your point cross Steve57. I agree 100%. I too am sick and tired of rich socialist leftists byoching about working men and businessmen who actually produce something while they suck the marrow from the bones of the economic animal we created. But, we didn’t build that. Then when we need them to protect us and our property they let their trained animals destroy overnight what it takes us a lifetime to build.

Elijah Cummings (over loudspeaker) To Crowd Of Blacks Defying Curfew: “I’m Begging You. Go Home.” –
Crowd To Cummings: “Fuck You, N*gga”…

I think the old guard race baiters are rapidly losing the power and influence they’ve wielded for so long. What steps in and fills that vacuum of leadership (for lack of better words) may be even worse.

Or voting with your feet, and moving your business elsewhere. Two years from now, Madam Mayor is going to ask, “Where are all the employers?”

    elissa,

This might speak a little to your point: today when former Gov. O’Malley (who flew back from Ireland o be with his people) stood outside the burned out CVS and addressed the crowd, he was seriously heckled: “Fuck that, this is his fault!” and In this crowd, Martin O’Malley was trying to gain support. Folks in the back saying “Fuck Outta Here White Boy ”

Residents remember his zero-tolerance policy and it’s negative impact on black males in their community.

No one deserves this bad of a government, so I’ll hold off on the ‘you get the government you deserve’ thought. But that state does pick awful leadership and refuses to learn from it.

A whole lot of innocent people have had their livelihoods destroyed by this decision.

  50. Or voting with your feet, and moving your business elsewhere.

That’s probably the most crucial, formidable form of voting there is in the US and throughout the world.

This country — this continent — was created by people voting with their feet. US states have been made or unmade by people voting with their feet. Many sections of urban America have been made or unmade by people voting with their feet.

It was been noted that various liberals, when unhappy with the eroding socio-economic nature of their surroundings (say, a blue neighborhood or a blue state), will pick up and move to environments they perceive as generally more stable, reliable and well managed. Places with relatively low crime rates, better public schools and a more welcoming business climate. In quite a few instances those will be red neighborhoods, red states. Or in other instances, perhaps a red bubble (a somewhat Republican or “moderate” district) amidst a sea of blue wasteland. Or a cushy blue bubble (limousine-liberal land) surrounded by hostile blue wasteland.

No matter what, too many of those liberals will push the same old foolish political preferences and voting habits they embraced in their former home turf onto their newly adopted home turf and start the vicious cycle all over again.
