Hillary Scooby Van Goes 92 in a 65, Placing Her in the Top 1% (of Speeders)

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 6:50 am

A nice complement to Dana’s post this morning: Speed laws are for the little people:

Democratic Presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton’s security detail led a handful of journalists on two lengthy high-speed chases to homes of influential Democrats on Monday.

Her lone official appearance on her first day in New Hampshire was a carefully stage-managed small-business roundtable in Keene.

But a lunchtime visit to a main-street bakery and two more appointments later in the day were off-the-books and under the public’s radar.

If police radar had been engaged, however, it would have clocked Hillary’s signature black conversion van – ‘Scooby’, for the uninitiated – hitting 92 mph in a driving rainstorm on Interstate 89, where the top speed limit is 65.

Well, you can’t blame Hillary for that. You think she drives her own vehicle? Come on; driving is for the little people.

  2. I thought the “Scooby van” was going a little fast when it passed all those reporters.

And “a little fast” is coming from a guy who put every single available Ford Motorsport part on his ’88 5.O and knew how to use them.

  3. Ed Rendell while gov. in PA was caught doing the same thing in his state trooper driven car on the PA turnpike. I don’t know if he stopped the practice, but it was in the news only once.
I don’t know how common the practice is.

  4. The ’88 having the speed density system. In ’89 Ford upgraded.

  5. There are more noteworthy things to discuss, but as one who drives on turnpikes and interstates, I always thought it a little shocking and hazardous when “out of nowhere” a car passes you that wasn’t in your rearview mirror just a moment before.

It’s common practice. It’s to throw off the terrorists. Which only racists believe exist.

Seriously. I don’t know any person who considers themselves important and can get away with it who lets their entourage anything approaching the speed limit. While calling you a nutcase for believing the terrorists they are trying to outrun exist.

  7. Try to get into an Obama event, or Hillary! listening thingy.

They’re all busy guarding themselves against stuff they want to tell us doesn’t exist.

  9. I don’t know why everybody’s complaining. As the soon-to-be first lesbian president she’s entitled to speed. And lie. And fly 1st class. And use the men’s room.

  10. sweetie pickles if you’re in a car and it’s going faster than your age

you need to tell the driver to slow it down

  11. re #6 , the whole entourage business is silly. and i blame a lot of that on Pres Reagan. Who should have told Sunnunnu to stop acting like a big shot.

I hear she pees standing up.

  15. I once had to wait 30 minutes for VP Dan Quayle’s motorcade to pass by. Humiliating.

  16. Safety is the driving concern (heh heh) when it comes to speed limits. At high speeds, particularly in compromised conditions (wet roads, limited visibility), greatly compress reaction allowances. Driving 92 mph in a 65 mph zone in the rain could cause a crash, and in a vehicle such as the First Lady’s it could be very injurious to all inside.

So let’s all give a hearty round of applause to the NH State Troopers for exercising restraint. If at first you don’t succeed,…

  17. I just squeezed 108 ft lb of torque and 103 hp out of my Harley on the Dyno.

  19. Typo – 122 decibels

    I bow to you, sir.

  23. Steve57 – I am just getting started. I got there with an inefficient, but cool, exhaust system. All I have done is some high performance bolt-in cams. I am shooting for 110 lb tq and 110 hp – bore it out, velocity stack air intake, torque converter, might just get me there.

All I did was two stroke power tool maintenance.

  26. I am a giver. Now I need some global warming so it is warm enough to ride outside.

    JD (3b5483)

  27. Oh, FYI – 122+ decibels in a relatively small concrete block room is extraordinarily loud. 122 db @ 2500 rpm, no idea how high it got on the Dyno.

    JD (3b5483)

  28. Well, my Rhobi “Extend It” power head has a new carb. I masterfully took the replacement part out of the envelope, and turned the two screws. Oh, and hooked up the throttle linkage and the fuel lines.

So I’ll be doing my bit for global warming. I’m really embarrassed about how small a part I’ll be playing, compared to your contribution.

  29. Rhobi = Ryobi
