The Inappropriateness Of Joe Biden
[guest post by Dana]
Once again, Joe Biden behaved in an overly-familiar way with a woman who was not Dr. Jill Biden. This time, the wife of newly appointed Defense Secretary Ash Carter had the unfortunate luck of drawing the short straw:
As Carter began speaking, Biden beckoned Stephanie Carter from across the room, then put both hands on her shoulders. They lingered there for roughly 20 seconds until Biden leaned in and whispered in her ear.
Video:
This is not Biden’s first time getting too close to a woman other than his wife. As he possessively put both hands on Mrs. Carter’s shoulders while standing very close to her backside, one wonders just what was so urgent that he had to lean in like that and whisper in her ear? I’ll tell you what: nothing. Absolutely nothing. And when one considers the Democrat’s caterwauling about the raging war on women, you’d think his boss would personally put the kibosh on the questionable behavior by his Vice-President toward binders full of women, lest anyone perceive these actions an abuse of power.

That makes sense. Dominance. Carter going belly up and admitting who’s top dog. He may have written a paper in 2006 advocating the use of force to keep Iran from getting nukes, and that may have allowed the Gay Old Party to confirm him, but now when Obama says “Sit up and bark” he will.

The C-Span cameraperson zoomed in on the SecDef to get Biden’s creepy face and hands out of the shot.
Does Biden have any kind of long and close personal pre-existing relationship with the new SecDef or his wife?
I so hope Biden will run in the Dem primary against Billary.

papertiger (c2d6da) — 2/17/2015 @ 11:27 pmThat comment was out of line. Right at the beginning of the UK video Mrs. Carter enters stage left.
This means there were goings on and doings preceeding her arrival that she could have been but didn’t want to be a part of.
That suggests to me she is uncomfortable with the spotlight. Totally understandable. I have a healthy dollop of that myself.
Joe was talking her through the jitters. That’s my final call. And I’ve been capping on him all day.

happyfeet (a037ad) — 2/18/2015 @ 5:42 amBeldar,
Whether he has had a prior relationship with the couple or not, the optics are bad, even very bad when you consider how much fire he’s previously come under because of the kind of behavior. He behaves brazenly in the spotlight, putting the women (and their spouses) in a exceedingly uncomfortable position of choice – what are they going to do with all eyes on them, given that he is second in command? And because he holds such a position of power and authority, he cannot and should not be excused, but instead should be held to an even higher standard. He is swearing in her husband, he is the one in the position of power. And he knows it. And they do, too.
At what point does “Oh, there goes Joe just being Joe” cross over to being a dirty old man?

This is the world I live in.
Sure it’s cool for TalkingPointsMemo to pander to the outsized ego of the estrogenatedwench mob.
But I’m seeing people who should know better attack an elected official because of the party insignia attached to his name. Biden didn’t do anything wrong with Mrs. Carter, in fact by my lights it’s one of those rare occasions where he did something borderline galant, lending support to a shy person who didn’t sign up to be in the glare of the Washington press.
Do you want to plant your flag on this particular mole hill, and call it a thing?
papertiger (c2d6da) — 2/18/2015 @ 6:34 amThe feminazis sure want to.
That alone should give you pause.
clearly a duel to defend this poor bewildered lady’s honor would not be out of place and must be scheduled at once
who will stand for Mr. Carter?
and for Mr. Biden, who will assert his innocence at 20 paces?
the event will of course be televised for the edification of the nation please consult your viewing guide
it also happens that today i googled about the breakfast tea
you opposed to have them with milk and hearty foozles cause of they are very robust
in order of robustitude i think they go Irish, Scottish, English, but it totally depends on the blend and there’s no real consistency here you just have to find one you like
twining’s irish does the trick for me, and should it chance that the duel is scheduled for the morning hours I would suggest it to one and all as the perfect accompaniment
happyfeet (a037ad) — 2/18/2015 @ 6:34 amBiden’s role in this administration is to serve as a kind of life insurance for Obola. Clearly, he’s taking the job seriously. He’s the “good hands” guy.
bobathome (f208b6) — 2/18/2015 @ 6:35 amPapertiger, if this were the only questionable incident coming from Joe Biden, I might agree, but it’s his long history, as a public official, of being inappropriate or downright criminal (remember the double-barreled shotgun advice?) that condemns him.
PPs43 (6fdef4) — 2/18/2015 @ 6:47 amIt reminds me of that actress walking though New York trying to draw catcalls. Particularly the one dude who walked along with her for a couple blocks in the “worst” part of town.
He was the guy everyone pointed at and said, “That guy is creepy”.
He was escorting the unescorted lady though the creepy part of town. Not hitting on her. Just keeping her safe. But chivalry is such a foreign concept that he ended up being the guy singled out for the most derision.
Same thing here.
I saw the other photos of “Vice President Handsey” where he was touching the Chinese dignitary’s kid, and two or three other instances. Even without the context provided by the video in Mrs. Carter’s case, they amounted to a big nothing burger.
There must be something better to beat Joe with.
papertiger (c2d6da) — 2/18/2015 @ 7:08 ami agree with mr. papertiger
happyfeet (a037ad) — 2/18/2015 @ 7:11 amBiden’s fellow senators nicknamed him “slow Joe” as a sign of contempt; not approbation.
Bar Sinister (b48c12) — 2/18/2015 @ 7:13 amIt is not a good sign when a senator is so dim that the others notice it. I could be mistaken of course. Perhaps he just wishes to be “misunderestimated.”
I think it is clearly inappropriate, as so much of what he says and does is. Whether it is a “malevolent” inappropriateness or just the inappropriateness of someone who is unaware and not thoughtful I have no idea. I imagine most of the people who ignore much of his behavior and say, “That’s just Joe being Joe” assume the second and let him get away with it because he is on “their side”.
I do think that there can be too much made of it. For one thing, if all of his past behavior hasn’t had consequences, it will take something really bad to get any traction.
And even then, the specific problem would still not be nearly as bad as the fact his level of competence has been rewarded all of these years.
And third, my goodness, there are bigger problems to face.
One of which is that the populace that voted for President Obama twice is still out there, and who knows if they won’t elect Hillary, Biden, Warren, or another fresh young upstart like Obama in 2 years.
MD in Philly (f9371b) — 2/18/2015 @ 7:15 am“Oh Joe, you old stud, lookie there. Once again you’ve got yourself a hot little piece standing in front of you at a presser. Man, I’m glad I put on the aftershave that Dr. Jill Biden gave me for Christmas. That stuff drives chicks wild. Here, let me just stand behind her — yeah, she’s the perfect height for me. I’ll just put my hands on her shoulders — it’ll come off looking friendly. All those young broads who are so fired up about Hillary are gonna see this and go, ‘Hey, he looks like a really supportive and caring guy. Look at how he protectively and affectionately grasps the shoulders of Carter’s hottie little wife.’ Yeah, that’s it, I’ll probably gain ten points on Hillary just by doing this. OK, now lean in a little bit — god, if this chick would just wear something low-cut I’d have the perfect vantage point to check out her rack. Oh well, let me get a little whiff of her hair. Oooommmm, smells the same as that Harf broad’s hair. They must use the same shampoo. Got to ask them what it is so that I can get some for Dr. Jill Biden. OK, this Carter guy is kind of droning on. ISIS yadda yadda this, and Russia yadda yadda that. Whatever. This is the perfect time for me to lean in and whisper something in her ear. Get a good whiff of the perfume. Maybe I’ll say something debonair like, ‘You know, I told Barack to make having a hot wife a requisite part of being Sec Def.’ Yeah, that’ll get her panties moist. OK, now maybe if I just lightly graze her ear with my tongue. . . . “

JVW (6adc73) — 2/18/2015 @ 7:33 amThis is not a recent phenomenon with Joe.
I think it has more to do with this.
“What are my chances of getting off this table completely normal?” The surgeon told Biden he had a better chance of living—and that that chance was in the 35 to 50 percent range.
Biden often looks to me as though he was mildly lobotomized, which I have seen again and again in mildly brain injured patients.
A neurosurgeon even wrote a book about it.
Here are the author’s five rules for neurosurgery interns:
1. You “ain’t never” the same when the air hits your brain.
2. The only minor operation is one that someone else is doing.
3. If the patient isn’t dead, you can always make him worse if you try hard enough.
4. One look at the patient is better than a thousand phone calls from the nurse.
5. Operating on the wrong patient or doing the wrong side of the body makes for a very bad day–always ask the patient what side their pain is on, which leg hurts, which hand is numb.
Number 1 is about Joe Biden.

As the saying goes, liberalism is a mental illness. It’s the reason that places chock full of left-leaning sentiment are more likely to be very corrupt in various ways and forms.

Dunno, nk. My understanding is that as senior surviving member, George H.W. Bush still gives the kill order, and he’s getting kind of mellow and soft in this old age. And that ass John Kerry might intervene on Biden’s behalf again.
JVW (6adc73) — 2/18/2015 @ 7:51 ami think the vp is a duffus. he definitely often crosses the boundaries of what i personally consider to be appropriate public behavior or good taste–both in his speech and action. but he is apparently seen by many as warmly hands-on– a toucher. this issue is not new for him. there are countless pictures of him touching and clutching men, too, which i’d think would make them even more uncomfortable than the girls. but as far as i know none of them, or the husbands, or fathers, or the women or mothers have hauled off and slugged him either. or moved away from him. i suppose part of it is that some people and some nationalities are bigger touchers and are more willing to be touched than others. and some may prefer not to create a scene in public. others pretend to think it’s sweet and charming.

JVW (6adc73) — 2/18/2015 @ 8:04 amIt was a chapter in both a Sociology and a Psychology course I took in college. Personal space is different cultures. It includes, among other things, talking distance, length and form of handshake, kissing and, of course, the abrazo. There was a time, not long ago, when grown men would walk arm-in-arm in American Anglo-Saxon culture without an implication of unseemly intimacy. Gentlemen still offer their arm to a lady among my circles, again with no implication of amorality.

“Ignoring” and “not making too big of a fuss” are two different things,
but yeah, I’m not sure where the line is.
Would I “be fine” with Joe behaving this way with my wife? No.
But I’m “much less fine” with about 100 things his boss is doing every day, along with a few our repub led Congress is doing as well.
And I don’t think hands on shoulders in public like this is worth my own physical harm, incarceration, or other consequences down the road.
This hill is not only one not to die on, but one that if it gets more than a little attention it will be a distraction.

“A U.S. Islamic advocacy group says that Vice- President Joe Biden, addressing a White House summit on “countering violent extremism (CVE)” on Tuesday, referred to right-wing extremists and supremacists committing violence “in the name of the Bible.”
The comments did not feature in Biden’s 19 minute-long opening remarks, televised by C-SPAN, in which the vice-president focused on America as a nation of immigrants, the need for different communities to “see” each other, and for countries to engage with “marginalized” communities.
“Biden just talked about the right wing militias & supremacist groups that are violent in the name of the Bible,” the Washington-based Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) tweeted later in the afternoon.
“We wanted them (WH) to include other type of violent extremists. Now they have, let’s keep asking and push,” MPAC said.
MPAC has not responded to an invitation to comment further.
..
In his opening remarks at Tuesday’s panel discussion, Biden said the U.S. and other countries need to tackle violent extremism not just by using force, but by engaging communities that are “marginalized.”
“We have to work from the ground up and engage our communities, and engage those who might be susceptible to being radicalized because they are marginalized.”
“Societies have to provide an affirmative alternative for immigrant communities, a sense of opportunity, a sense of belonging that discredits the terrorist appeal to fear, isolation, hatred, resentment,” he said.”

carlitos (c24ed5) — 2/18/2015 @ 3:04 pmEvidently I’m from the wrong generation or the complaint is not the action but the hypocrisy.

Colonel Haiku (2601c0) — 2/18/2015 @ 5:22 pm#68: elissa, I think the definition of drunkard is what you bring to question. But certainly, any man who has a trace of scot or dutch DNA would have the good sense not to molest the wife of a subordinate before the entire world.
I used to think Spiro was the bottom of the barrel, but then we had Nixon, Carter, Bush I, Clinton, and Bush II, and I had to rethink the whole mess. But with Obola and Biden, I think we have finally found a true minimum. These feckless fools are a loadstone in political terms. Find any one with characteristics and you must flee for your life. But which ever way you turn, it will be an up hill climb.

malclave (4f3ec1) — 2/18/2015 @ 8:26 pmCheck this out. Gwen Ifill helps Biden with damage control.
Check the time stamp on Ifill’s twit. *8am DC time.
She’s using my argument man. I should charge her a royalty.
I don’t really feature it as a possibility, but it gives me a giggle to think of Gwen Ifill pouring over the Patterico comment section for opposition research.
PBS sucks Gwen!
papertiger (c2d6da) — 2/18/2015 @ 10:52 pmAre you a middle eastern dictator? Cause there’s a political uprising ——- in my pants!

carlitos (c24ed5) — 2/19/2015 @ 6:52 amThe Executive Branch is asking Ash Carter to defend the nation when he can’t defend his wife?
LTMG (94c4c3) — 2/19/2015 @ 8:28 amSnicker. Carter’s career in the DOD was mostly in defense contracting and procurement. With SOD under his belt, he’ll be the number one fair-haired boy for the defense-contracting lobby when he retires. He’ll comfort his wife with diamonds and furs, when she gets tired of Mercedes’ and villas.
nk (dbc370) — 2/19/2015 @ 8:34 amNot so fast, folks. Joe Biden is a government and media approved demagogue. That makes everything OK. Just don’t put your wife and a camera around him.
