Friend of the blog Robert C.J. Parry is running for City Council in Monrovia. His Web site, which has a handy donation button, is here. I feel confident he would work to make life there better.

  1. Thank you very much!

  2. Rumors that they named Monrovia after President James Monroe are unconfirmed, given that they just occurred to me and aren’t anything I ever heard in my life — yet seem somewhat remotely plausible.

  3. Nope. William M. Monroe who’s ranch the city was partly built on. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monrovia,_California#History

  4. On the other hand, Monroe Street in Chicago is very likely named after the President seeing as it’s between Madison Street and Adams Street.

  5. Yes, Mr. Monroe was the Superintendent of the railroad construction. The tracks still run through town.

  7. No, Daleyrocks. The quaint little town of Monrovia, California. About 20 miles and a culture change from downtown LA. You’re always welcome to come visit!

  8. Best of luck Robert C.J. Parry. I have such admiration for those brave enough to enter local politics. From what I’ve read both about you and from your writings, your city would benefit from having you at the helm.

  9. Good luck!

  10. Agree with Dana.

Also, may God guard your heart as you move within an often soul-less environment

  11. Monrovia. I always had a soft spot in my heart for that place cuz it was close to the drag strip in Ontario. And I knew a chick I could stay with.

  12. What are the rules for donations for California local elections like this? How much personal information do we have to give and do we have to give directly or can we give anonymously?

Jones argues that the predominant explanation of what causes heart attacks—obstructions in the coronary vessels that need to be cleared—is primarily to blame, because it leads to an erroneous emphasis on the highly visible plaques looming on angiogram screens. In fact, these plaques are not heart attacks-in-waiting; smaller, often invisible lesions in the heart vessels are now understood to cause most heart attacks. The problem isn’t so much that bypass surgery or angioplasty or stents aren’t working, Jones explains, but that in some cases, the interventions target the wrong lesions.

What I said. Bypass surgey isn’t working. I know theer are some better sources.

  15. Donations of $99 or less are not reported under California State law. Out of State donations are legal. You can donate under the support tab!

  16. Having personally met this gentleman and his lovely wife while they were walking in our neighborhood during the last election (he got my family’s vote then as well), he will definitely be a valuable asset to our community.
