Ayaan Hirsi Ali Reacts To Massacre In France

Filed under: General — Dana @ 7:03 pm

[guest post by Dana]

Ayaan Hirsi Ali, responding to the events in France, addressed the struggle that seems to plague those who work hard to separate Islam from the acts of barbarism, and also expressed her views on what the media’s next steps should be. Judging by her comments, it’s clear to see that she did not consult with Joe Biden.

We do need to wake up to the fact that there is a movement—a very lethal movement, very cruel—that has a political vision about how the world should be organized and how society should live. And in order for them to realize their vision, they are willing to use any means. They are willing to use violence. They are willing to use terror.

Is this some kind of cult? Or are the principles of this cult embedded in Islam? I happen to think they are embedded in Islam. The only way peace-loving Muslims can get rid of this is by reforming their religion so that, for example, it can no longer provide justifications for murdering people deemed to be blasphemers. And while they go about reforming their religion, which will take some time, we who do not adhere to that religion need to defend our own values. Freedom of speech. Freedom of publication. And the rule of law.

The more we appease, the more we indulge, the more emboldened the enemies of freedom become.

The ball is now in the court of the media. If the press responds to this by not reprinting the cartoons, by not defending the principle that Charlie Hebdo was defending, then we have given in. Then they have won. Those three men yelled, “Allahu Akbar.” They yelled, “The Prophet is avenged. Charlie Hebdo is dead.” Our duty is to keep Charlie Hebdo alive. Our duty is to make sure that they realize that the Prophet is not avenged.

In 2006, when Jyllands-Posten in Denmark published the Muhammad cartoons, the mainstream media made the decision not to reprint those cartoons, to respect the sensibilities of Muslims and to avoid Muslim rage. This time it would be the biggest mistake for the Western press to repeat that—absolutely the biggest mistake.

I would urge everyone in the media to take a stand now. An entire magazine has been wiped out. If you think they won’t one day come for you, too, just because you abstained from mocking the Prophet, then you are gravely mistaken.

In other news, Christine Amanpour is referring to the barbarians as “activists”; Howard Dean refuses to refer to them as Muslim terrorists, but rather mass murderers; and Ezra Klein, clearly having gone over the edge, claims that two men went on a “murder spree with no motive involved” and that “their crime is not explained by cartoons or religion.”

  1. Hello.

  2. yeah gotta be honest with you I don’t see me no avenged prophet

  3. why does she capitalize prophet anyway

that’s like capitalizing watermelon or sangfroid or condiment or cherub or hootowl

there just ain’t no call for it

    happyfeet (831175)

  4. I wondered that, too, happyfeet. Perhaps it’s an editorial decision…

  5. I think better than publishing cartoons would be to publish el-Sisi’s speech:
    http://pjmedia.com/rogerlsimon/2015/01/06/does-egypts-el-sisi-deserve-the-nobel-peace-prize/

    FYI, FWIW:
On Hewitt, Chuck Todd says he will have 2 Muslims on his show Sunday at the same time, one saying that the jihadists are a strain of Islam that must be fought by the rest of Islam, and another person who will try to say they are terrorists and have nothing to do with Islam.

  6. She’s a foreigner. English is not her native language.

Sigh. When a noun is used as a title it is capitalized. Elizabeth II is a queen but in England she is the Queen. Obama is the President. Mohammed is a prophet and in Islam The Prophet. (I’m not too clear about whether the article should be capitalized though.)

    nk (dbc370)

  7. At the risk of being mocked, I’ll answer seriously: She is Muslim and hence the “Prophet” is honored. I’m an old man and a lapsed Catholic for most of my life; however I expect (in written word) both God and Jesus capitalized. (Disclaimer: I doubt “Red” has a better arsenal than I do :))

  13. I thought Ms.Ali had abandoned Islam?
At any rate, the word in question was part of a quote from tge the terrorist. Presumably the editors decided to capitalize it because that is how Muslims do it. I suspect Ms. Ali was not involved in that.

  19. The Western press has received a wake-up call. The Left’s little pet puppy dogs now grown into vicious pitbulls have turned on their enabling masters. Chickens do come home to roost, and bitter are the fruits of treachery. Hate begets hatred, and Journalists now have an opportunity to see themselves as others have seen them. Will they wake-up and take a stand against Islamic terrorism?

I don’t think so, not in this lifetime.

.I think better than publishing cartoons would be to publish el-Sisi’s speech:

    http://pjmedia.com/rogerlsimon/2015/01/06/does-egypts-el-sisi-deserve-the-nobel-peace-prize/

The Wall Street Journal published excerpts from it on Friday, citimng MEMRI.

From this I learned that the speech was actually given on Sunday December 28, 2014, not January 1, as other sources seemed to indicate, although they didn’t precisely say that either.

The New York Times wa not behind other media outlets – it took time for this speech to get noticed.

This is a video clip, with captions, both n Arabic and English, and sign lanagiage interpretation:

    Petraeus persecution

It’s the moles. They don’t want Obama appointing him to any kind of high position.

Obama has already said he didn’t harm national security. And you only violate the espoionage act if the classified information

    EITHER

    1) Is revealed to a foreign power or for pay

    2) Actualy ahrms U.S. security.

The excuse for continuing this investigation is apparently that several people have been prosecuted for the kind of leaking Petraeus did. I think that didn’t use to happen before the Obama Administration, though.

Reagan didn’t arm them. Ronald Reagan allowed Pakistan to choose who got in Afghanistan got the arms.

Partially because there wasn’t much choice about it, unless the United States really insisted, and partially they didn’t really understoand what Pakistan was doing.

Not all of it was financed by Pakistan. There were johadists in other parts of the world, too.

There was prehaps more of an Islamic establishment when money came in promoting jihadism, and maybe the imams are watched more carefully to see if they are getting moneyfrom bad sources. They haven’t taken over many mosques, although back in the early 1990s Sheik Omar Abdul Rahman did. And mabe the sponsers of terror are a little afraid. At least of ruining a good thing.
