Wouldn’t It Take Less Space to Tell Us What You Got Right?

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 7:07 am

A correction in the New York Times regarding a story about Mario Cuomo’s funeral:

Correction: January 6, 2015

An earlier version of this article erroneously included one family member among the pallbearers. Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo was not one of them. The article also misidentified the youngest son of Mario Cuomo. He is Christopher, not Andrew. The article also referred incorrectly to the attendance of Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. at services for the former governor. Mr. Biden attended the wake on Monday, but not the funeral service on Tuesday. Mr. Holder did not attend the funeral. And the article described St. Ignatius Loyola incorrectly. It is a church, not a cathedral.

  2. When campaign finance reform limited the number of candidates.

This didn’t really hit till the 21st century.

They now have to start running early in the year before the Presidential election.

  4. One error is a mistake, two is unprofessional, and three is don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. They skipped four and went straight to five — or six, depending on how you are counting things — which puts us in Stephen Glass territory.

  5. Mario himself made it quite clear that as much as possible, he wanted a simple, local funeral with minimal fanfare, Father Witt said.

But simple and minimal isn’t what he got, hundreds of elected officials and government leaders, past and present – Bill and Hillary Clinton, Mayor de Blasio, former Mayor Bloomberg, and Obama’s nominee for Attorney General, Loretta Lynch. Bagpipers and drummers escorted Cuomo’s hearse and State Troopers lined the streets. (NYPD officers were kept at a safe distance)

Clearly, attention seeking Democrat politicians just couldn’t pass up an opportunity to put themselves center stage in a self-serving public display of homage for Saint Mario, even if they had to violate his last wishes to do it.

New York probably hasn’t seen such a funeral since the last war among the Five-Families.
