The Day After Christmas

Filed under: General — Dana @ 11:07 am

[guest post by Dana]

It’s the day after Christmas, also known as recovery day for the millions of Americans whose gastronomic indulgences are causing them to pop Pepto-Bismol tablets like, well, like candy! And if you’re one of the recovering, it’s lucky you don’t live in the UK where doctors are now being told they must report patients who are gaining weight. This comes on the heels of a ruling by the EU that “obesity can be considered a disability” and that employers must treat overweight employees as disabled and provide them with whatever is necessary to perform their jobs.

Also in the news, the daughter of Eric Garner doxxed one of the police officers who was present when her father died:

Erica Garner tweeted that cop Justin D’Amico was “another officer that helped killed [sic] my dad,” and directed her 5,000-plus Twitter followers to a Web page that lists addresses for D’Amico and five possible relatives.

The information was viewed about 500 times before Garner’s stunning tweet was deleted following inquiries by The Post.

Jonathan Moore, attorney for the Garner family claims that Erica Garner “did not have any knowledge of what was in those links.”

Garner’s denial:

Anything for a story ..i cant say anything else but this is a very sad attempt to assassinate my character..srry guys my last post 4awhile

This tweet was followed by:

That tweet was retweeted to me ..it was a link i never opened all i seen was the officer name didnt think twice but ppl changed my words

Finally, ask yourself this, if North Korea was not behind the Sony hacking, what would that say about the FBI and this administration?

Kurt Stammberger from the Norse cybersecuirty firm, told CBS News that his team believes a woman identified only as “Lena” was heavily involved in the hack – not North Korea.

“We are very confident that this was not an attack master-minded by North Korea and that insiders were key to the implementation of one of the most devastating attacks in history,” he told the news outlet.

“Sony was not just hacked, this is a company that was essentially nuked from the inside,” Stammberger added.

  1. Hello.

    Dana (8e74ce)

  2. This was done on behalf of North Korea.

It may very well be that Lena was North Korean Chinese agent and was crucial to the hack.

But that doesn’t change anything. Except it may explain what North Korea wa talking about when it said it could prove it was innocent.

Because they know how the hack was done.

    Sammy Finkelman (d22d64)

  3. This Lena actually may never have worked at SONY.

    Sammy Finkelman (d22d64)

  4. The cyber community expressed skepticism from day one. To me, the most likely explanation involves an insider, but that does not mean outsiders were not involved as well. Lena might well be the liason between the insiders and whomever was the outside party.

On other fronts, a link that may be of interest.

  6. I suspect that NK funded the hackers but doubt it was a solitary action. We need to take down the Kim bank accounts again, as was done before Bush got convinced to try another gambit to get them to be nice. At one time we had closed most of them down. Once that is done, they are pretty harmless to outsiders.

  16. Your neighborhood. I told you about the Greek pastry shop. One mile straight West on Lawrence, at Kedzie and then some, are the Korean stores. Go North to Devon and Western, those are the Indian sub-continent stores that are not 7-11s or gas stations. Straight West on Devon to California and a bit more up to Sacramento are Jewish groceries and bakeries. The Korean and Indian neighborhoods, you’ll know you’re there by the smell of the spices.

  17. i’m on it soon

i been dropping the ball on venturing out lately

kooky stalker lady through me off my game but it’s been over 24 hours since her last text

    i think she’s catching a clue

either that or i’m just a dirty birdie

    happyfeet (831175)

  18. *

    happyfeet (831175)

  19. Whut? Did I somehow miss a prior exposition informing about the kooky stalker lady?

    elissa (5c0bd9)

  20. Err, does she look like Glen Close or like Kathy Bates?

    nk (dbc370)

  21. yeah she kinda does look like kathy

    she really kinda does

    no real prior exposition…

you kinda think hmmm this is a lil much

then you think gosh that’s a lil stalkery

then you turn off your phone lock your doors and don’t go out for a couple days

the last straw was when i was the only one at office and she showed up on one of her vacation days

then confronted me about calls she eavesdropped on

i heard you talking about whatever why didn’t you ask me i was just down the hall there’s no reason you should ask m-

and i’m like oh ok this is what we did would you have done something different?

    and she was all

well i don’t know… i don’t know what you did i was just down the hall and you didn’t ask me

and i have the whole thing on my monitor and I’m like see? this is right, right?

    and she’s like

oh whatever nevermind next time you’ll know to ask me

and i’m like yes of course

    happyfeet (831175)

    happyfeet (831175)

  25. i have all her increasingly manic texts and IMs

from the reaction i get from the people i’ve shown it’s pretty compelling

i only have monday and tuesday to worry about and i have a half day of pto left to burn this year

so if she shows up i can just say i’m a go get a tasty sammich and just not come back

    happyfeet (831175)

  26. i think we’re good though

no texts in 24 hours means she got the hint

so she’ll have to find another outlet for her legitimate concerns about how life is making her not feel happy inside

    happyfeet (831175)

  27. Better look under the bed, just to be sure.

    Gazzer (c44509)

  28. Joe Biden will be attending police officer Ramos tomorrow. I believe I read that Ramos’ widow gave de Blasio her okay to attend the funeral. It would seem good form for him to skip it, lest he draw the attention away from Ramos. Plus, given how many law enforcement people will be in attendance, does this help or further hurt the city’s relationship with the NYPD?

    Dana (8e74ce)

  29. I hope Vice President Biden is not planning to speak.

    elissa (5c0bd9)

  30. she was trying to turn the boston piggies into cannibals?

    that’s diabolical

    the end times

    they draw near

    happyfeet (831175)

  31. I said the other day that I thought the widow would take the high road with deBlasio. I also said that he did not deserve that break.

    Gazzer (c44509)

  32. Graciously declining to attend in order to not distract from Ramos might be seen by rank and file as a good-faith step toward healing the rift.

    Dana (8e74ce)

  33. Good point. That might be the smarter choice. So I doubt he will do it.

  45. De Blasio could take the high ground, send an advance copy of his intended remarks to Mrs Ramos and ask if her husband would have preferred the mayor deliver them in person at the funeral, or would she rather the mayor send a wreath to express his regards but keep a respectful distance.

It would be a show respect for the family by letting them control access to the funeral and he’s be able to defend the choice of venue for his remarks as her decision.

  46. Regarding the EU obesity thing – obesity IS a disability. Sorry but it really is. I put on some baby weight and all of a sudden life gets way more difficult. Climbing stairs, standing for long periods of time, etc. And I know it’s a life choice really, but aren’t many diseases caused by bad life choices?

    Georganne (e37667)

  47. The problem I have with obesity being labeled a disability and lumped in with other disabilities is that obesity is almost always self-inflicted whereas any number of other disabilities most certainly are not self-inflicted. Why should they be equated or have laws requiring they be treated as if the same? Especially at the cost of of taxpayers.

    Dana (8a69ce)

  48. Also, one can recover from baby weight gain fairly easily through diet and exercise, but there are any number of actual disabilities that are not recoverable no matter what is tried.

    Dana (8a69ce)

  49. The obvious question then – What about lung cancer? If you’ve been a smoker all your life and you’re dying from lung cancer – should you not be eligible for disability payments?

    Is this THE Dana?

    Georganne (e37667)

  53. We’ve gone from “Care for the widow and the orphan” to “Care for the lazy fat-ass who eats 4,000 calories a day sitting in front of the TV”, and every self-indulgent cry-baby in-between.

But that’s not the worst of it. The worst of it is that too many think they are entitled to anything anybody else has not because they have done anything to earn it but just by virtue of being born; too many are willing to exploit that in order to be the leaders of the ochlocracy*; and it’s starting to look like only an apocalyptic disaster will shake some sense back into Western civilization. If even that.

  54. This is why we can’t have nice things:

One of the most frequently quoted and photographed Ferguson protesters was charged Saturday with setting fire to a Berkeley convenience store last week.
St. Louis County police arrested Joshua Williams, 19, of St. Louis, on Friday after several local media outlets and store surveillance captured images of him trying to set a pile of wood on fire outside the QuikTrip on North Hanley Road early Wednesday.

Williams confessed to setting fires at the store in a videotaped interview, according to court documents. Williams can be seen in videos both inside and outside the looted QuikTrip, authorities said.

On Friday night and Saturday morning, a small group gathered at the St. Louis County Justice Center in Clayton to protest Williams’ arrest.

The Post-Dispatch, Bloomberg, USA Today and the Associated Press have quoted and photographed Williams. On Oct. 13, he was photographed walking arm-in-arm with author and activist Cornel West toward the St. Louis University campus where protesters staged a sit-in.

Williams’ most recent confrontation of St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson during a Ferguson Commission meeting landed him in the pages of this newspaper.

Williams came within feet of Dotson and shouted at him as he tried to answer questions from the panel. “Can someone please get this lying (expletive) ho off the mic!” Williams yelled.
… Williams has been quoted as an advocate for peaceful protests. “Josh is one of the young activists, and all of us have taken close to him. We got to know his heart, and he got to know ours,” said Bishop Derrick Robinson, of Kingdom Destiny Fellowship International. “He’s a great kid, an educated kid, a child who knows what he wants and is very active in the community.”

An MSNBC profile of Williams in September quoted him as saying, “We have to come together as one and show them we can be peaceful, that we can do this. If not, they’re going to just want us to act up so (police) can pull out their toys on us again.”

Later, he continued: “I learned that we have to stand up and that you can’t get nowhere with violence but you can always move people without it.”

  56. President Obama gave federal workers the day off.

Not sure this will add to his legacy. Next year December 26 is a Saturday and in 2016, it is Monday, and they’ll get Monday off anyway in order not to lose the December 25 holiday day off.

I didn’t say putting on some baby weight was a disability. I was just speaking from my own experience. I put on some baby weight and it made me more sympathetic to the plight of the obese. That is all. And I’m sorry to be crass but…if you’re too fat to work than that is a disability. One can argue the point that this is a self-inflicted disability but…what of it? And it most certainly does not make me any less sympathetic to the plight of an injured soldier or anyone else’s suffering for that matter. But it is what it is.

    Georganne (e37667)

  59. i’m starving

  60. I’m sorry I was snappish, Georganne.

We should have a sense of humor about things like this. I, for one, am happy to live in a society where poor people are fat, and being fat is considered malnourished and even a disability.

I definitely don’t want to be like that clown who calls himself Center for Science in the Public Interest (it’s just one guy, who looks a lot like SEK actually) and goes around nattering about the calories in watermelon. Or like Moochelle. Somebody should give her the news — no amount of dieting is going to narrow that beam of hers.

  64. I still wonder who shot and killed the young friend of Mike Brown and then set his body on fire. Payback for testifying to the grand jury?

I guess the media are too busy attending looting and burning sites to look into it.

    Patricia (5fc097)

  65. Deandre Joshua was not a grand jury witness, and is described as a friend of Dorian Johnson, but also as a “good kid, not into drugs” and as employed by Walmart. He is not described as a friend of Michael Brown.

His body was found the morning after the grand jury’s decision not to indict was announced and just a=yards from where Michael Brown was killed.

    http://freedomoutpost.com/2014/12/deandre-joshua-friend-of-witness-to-michael-brown-shooting-murdered-shot-in-head-body-set-on-fire/

I would guess this was probably connected with criminal activity, but not because he testified in this case, because he didn’t.
