  1. Love it. That’s actually a TV tuned to the “fireplace channel” — bit of trivia for you.

    Merry Christmas Eve!

  2. I thought it was Charlie Manson and couldn’t figure out where he got the deely boppers.

  3. Be nice. Jay Semko is from the wonderful band The Northern Pikes and he is also working on a little thing I am going to surprise y’all with. And he has a luxurious, Santa-like beard! (Just less gray but equally festive!) Treat him as you would treat the friend of a friend.

  4. If you’ve never heard Vince Vance and the Valiants’ “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” trust me, it’s worth three minutes and 42 seconds of your life. Pay no attention to the horrid video; just close your eyes and listen to something really special. Lisa Layne (not the woman doing the lip-syncing, BTW) just absolutely nails it, IMHO. Even better: Grab someone you love, turn the lights down low, and dance.

  17. Colonel, I know you’re a music guy, but in England, back in the day, there was a band called Hunt, Lunt and Cunningham. Hilarity ensued.

  22. Just keep away from John Wayne singing Winter Wonderland and you will be okay.
Well maybe “singing” is not the best word to use there.

  24. That’s a lovely song by Semko. Guitar opening reminds me of an old CSN song that Stephen Stills sang lead vocal on, but can’t remember the title. I always love to hear a well-played acoustic guitar, too.

  27. No, the Greeks switched to the Gregorian calendar in 1927. There are some holdouts, independent bishoprics which do not belong to either the Constantinople Patriarchate or the autocephalous synod in Greece, but not many.

  28. I don’t know how it started, but our traditional Christmas Eve music is the John Denver Rocky Mountain Christmas album. Love it.
