the Beltway RINOs would rather be in charge of a permanent minority party, while keeping their noses in the trough there in DC, than NOT be in control of a majority party.

How peace negotiator Martin Indyk cashed a $14.8 million check from Qatar, and no one noticed.
Short version is that, buried several paragraphs into a NYT article about foreign powers are buying influence at think tanks, there’s a note that Martin Indyk, vice-president of the Brookings Institution, got a rather large check from Qatar.
The context is that Martin Indyk was in charge of negotiating between Israel and the Palestinians this year; he blamed Israel for the failure, but some evidence has been found that Qatar told Hamas to scuttle it.
