Vapid Hollywood Person: If Only We Could Give Obama Untrammeled Power!

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 6:57 am

Obama is in town, and it’s time for mindless Hollywood morons to rhapsodize about him:

“You’re so handsome that I can’t speak properly,” the actress, singer and food writer gushed after introducing Obama to several hundred supporters seated on white fold-out chairs in the lush backyard of her home in the movie star haven of Brentwood, a neighborhood in Los Angeles…

Paltrow noted the approaching Nov. 4 midterm elections in which Democratic control of the Senate is at risk. She called it a “critical time” for Democrats and seemed to urge everyone to vote. “It would be wonderful if we were able to give this man all of the power that he needs to pass the things that he needs to pass,” she said.

He’s doing his best to give it to himself.

Look: theories about presidents not being kings are for the Little People. And, as Gwyneth says: “I am who I am. I can’t pretend to be somebody who makes $25,000 a year.”

The cults we build in this country, around power and fame, are disgusting. When I hear about parties like this, I think to myself: how much would I pay not to have to spend an evening with people like that? I’m afraid the number easily goes into three digits, and that’s before the decimal point.

Final thought: when Obama is in town, I am never happier to be living waaaay south in Palos Verdes. Not one second of my commute is affected by that guy. If it were, nobody would want to be around me. Trust me.

  7. Just when you think these ditzy-bitches in Hollywood can’t get any dumber one goes and proves you wrong. Yes, nk, the 19th amendment was a big, very big mistake.

And this moron is an advocate for “equal work for equal pay” for women. Is she serious? Makes 10 million a flick and she’s and advocate? The hypocrisy of leftists knows no boundary.

    And then the money line:

“It would be wonderful if we were able to give this man all of the power that he needs to pass the things that he needs to pass,” she said.

How much power does this idiot think a president should have? Or is she suggesting we need a left-wing dictator? Not only are theses clowns dumbasses, they’re dangerous dumbasses.

Not everyone can afford $15hr, someone may be working 2 jobs and actually need a housekeeper, a gardener and a child care worker to keep order about the place for $12HR while they are off earning $30HR. Plus if they get legal and pay SS and Wcomp on those hrs the real cost of $15Hr goes up closer to $20… god knows the feds would love to get their hands on their 6% SS cut from the employer side of every hour worked

I see why Hollywood loves Obama.
First he is a Democrat and god knows last week the same crowd paid to see Joe Biden (D) for dunce
But after the D behind Obama’s name is a guy who is taller than average, good looking by their standards, and best of all when he is on, he hits his lines. Who cares if it is BS. Hollywood is all smoke and mirrors; camera angles and screenwriting… a place where when she leaves the set, the rocks can speak to Gwyneth.

I agree. But it’s not only this country, and it’s not only in this day and age. Not too long ago there was a cult built up around a famous person who some say had the power to heal and perform miracles.

  37. Er, Gil, if you’re making a snarky (and pretty stupid) reference to Jesus,
I’d say the difference, obvious to all but boneheads, is that Jesus, unlike your average

Quite right. The cult of human sacrafice he started only required one. Thank goodness for that. Sadly though many of my potential golfing buddies cant make a Sunday morning tee-times due to cracker eating / whine drinking obligations related to this cult.

    Gil (febf10)

  43. Gil, the one you should be worried about is the pedophile who started a cult that forced people to submit or die. In fact, he named his cult “submission.” And they’re still killing the unbelievers today.

    edoc118 (c37322)

  44. does he even comprehend John 3;16

My. I feel so sorry for you.

Paltrow sounds like Phi Beta Kappa material compared to you.

    exiledonmainst. (f03d99)

  46. Perhaps Obama can golf with gil on Sunday mornings. I’m sure he does not have any
religious constraints keeping him from the golf course. Or executive ones for that matter.
All he requires is a modest donation. $30,000 or so might do it.

    exiledonmainst. (f03d99)

  47. “Sadly though many of my potential golfing buddies cant make a Sunday morning tee-times due to cracker eating / whine drinking obligations related to this cult.”

I call BS. There is no proof Gil has potential buddies.

  54. Our host wrote, in part: “When I hear about parties like this, I think to myself: how much would I pay not to have to spend an evening with people like that? I’m afraid the number easily goes into three digits, and that’s before the decimal point.”

Our host speaks as a California beset with that state’s cost of living, but also as one on the salary of a public employee. I suspect that were he in private practice, it would be four digits. It would be for me, and I’m not a rich man by any means.

    Beldar (fa637a)

  55. Colonel, those are great quotes. I think your repeating them here may have been a war crime.

But seriously folks, Ms. Paltrow isn’t stupid. She gets subject before verb, she can write paragraphs, she is smarter than the Secretary of Defense or the Secretary of State. She’s shallow. That’s the word you’re looking for. “Foolish” also works, but I think shallow is the most apt, if one most boil it down to a single word.

    Beldar (fa637a)

  56. *must boil

Patrick, when are your web monkeys going to write an “edit” feature for my comments? I have to revise everything six times, and I usually can’t resist hitting “Submit Comment” before that point.

    Beldar (fa637a)

  57. Haiku, any nude selfies on line?

Not worth it. No tits, even rubber ones.

    Mike K (90dfdc)

  58. When I hear these incredibly rich people speak like this, and I further know that these ‘dinners’ cost, I’m assuming, the legal maximum of $32K……..who believes this limit is actually adhered to? If you want Obama to have absolute power, why would you care about breaking campaign finance law? That works for the right, too, but the media would care if the right did it, accordingly, they are less likely to do it.

    askeptic (efcf22)

  61. Too be fair to the “vapid” (I think that is the word you are looking for, Beldar), I believe from the context that she was talking about the Senate elections and keeping the Senate in Democratic hands. So, in that context, the quote is not quite as stupid as it appears at first glance, although the whole “You’re so handsome that I can’t think properly. When can I gobble your knob?” (I might have made up the last part of that) is still pretty disgusting. Americans shouldn’t have any cults of personality.

    David, infamous sockpuppet (9d8151)

  62. There is a long list of evidence that Paltrow is the Queen of shallow and self-absorbed. What a waste of space.

    Jenny (a343bb)

  63. Incredible, Haiku.

    Patricia (5fc097)

    steveg (794291)

  65. Radar Online reports she didn’t treat her help too well:

“She was snappy with the people that were there and even yelled at one of the workers for not doing the table placements correctly,” the insider says.

“That was in the beginning of the day so everyone stayed clear of her from that point on, as we were all instructed to do.”

About 100 workers were at Paltrow’s home, which consisted of security, florists, caterers and interior designers, and she made sure that everyone knew just how special she was.

“She was walking around on her phone and talking really loud to friends, letting everyone know that the president was coming to her house, as if everyone didn’t know already,” the source tells Radar.

“She kept saying that she was pissed off because everything was running behind schedule.”

    Ha! But of course:

“At around 10am, she started drinking wine and she was smoking cigarettes all day.”

Give the woman an Oscar. She’s quite the performer. A diva if ever there was one.

    Dana (4dbf62)

  66. Well, hell, here I was, feeling happy that I had come up with “vapid” to describe Ms Paltrow, and I reread the title of the post, and our host beat me to it. Man, is my face red.

    David, infamous sockpuppet (9d8151)

  67. Vapid is good. Ditz is apt.

About the only celebrity who I can really muster the energy to despise is Sean Penn. (Alec Baldwin I consider ineligible for consideration because he’s sub-human.)

    Beldar (fa637a)

  68. No one has made any dumb blonde jokes, yet. Or her strange diets could have damaged her brain. Take pity on her.

    DRJ (a83b8b)

  69. “At around 10am, she started drinking wine and she was smoking cigarettes all day.”

Oh great. In about ten years, we will have to watch a washed-up cross between Carol Channing and Lucille Ball bitch to a graying Jimmy Fallon about how President Hillary Clinton let down the legacy of Obama and Downey won’t return her calls about playing Pepper Potts in Iron Man 7.

    Ag80 (eb6ffa)

  70. Sorry, No pity for her whatsoever. She insulted women everywhere gushing her goop to the president about his looks. Someone with such an immense lack of self-awareness and EGO deserves all she gets.*

Remember this gem when working mom Gwyneth compared her plight with you know, the everyday working moms: “I think it’s different when you have an office job, because it’s routine and, you know, you can do all the stuff in the morning and then you come home in the evening,” said the polarizing Paltrow. “When you’re shooting a movie, they’re like, ‘We need you to go to Wisconsin for two weeks,’ and then you work 14 hours a day and that part of it is very difficult. I think to have a regular job and be a mom is not as, of course there are challenges, but it’s not like being on set.”

(*My comment might possibly be laced with the tiniest bit of envy at her size 2 figure, but just a tiny bit. But she’s still an idiot – albeit with a killer figure.)

    Dana (4dbf62)

  71. Gwyneth Paltrow is able to influence people, and I agree it’s fair that her comments should be scrutinized and critiqued. But she is a pitiable figure.

    DRJ (a83b8b)

  72. They don’t take pity on our kids with the garbage they put on the screen. Jennifer Lawrence’s skinny butt on Google images was a little bit of a lesson for the good for my daughter who is a big Hunger Games fan. Not to take these ventriloquists dummies seriously. I also took the opportunity to tell her why actresses were held in the same esteem as outright prostitutes up until the 20th century.

    nk (dbc370)

  73. Funny you should mention Jennifer Lawrence. Because I was at the hair salon earlier today I am able to share with you all the news that Gwyneth’s ex, (and I use the term guardedly since they are still technically married) Coldplay’s Chris Martin, is now living with JLAW. Small world, huh?

    elissa (b69310)

  74. about how President Hillary Clinton let down the legacy of Obama

If the US does reach (or descend to) that point in the future (and given Sniper-Fire Hillary’s age, not all that far into the future), this nation will have crumbled into one big heap, becoming sort of a cross between Mexico and France. Or proving the theory that great nations have a shelf life that lasts not much beyond 200-or-so years.

    Mark (c160ec)

  75. She, and Obama, make a great pair. All their lives they have been told how great they are, and they have never once paused to consider that they night not be quite as superfreakingawesome as they were led to believe.

    JD (1a76f9)

  76. elissa,

Her non-separation but “conscious uncoupling” really puts her in the deserved-mockery spotlight, no?

    Dana (4dbf62)

  77. Gwyneth Paltrow’s father has been portrayed as a hostile man who used his clout to hurt conservatives because of their beliefs, and she idolized her father. She seems to idolize Obama, too, like an obedient child rather than a mature woman. There’s probably some psychological insight or Freudian comparison to be made, but she seems like a little girl lost and that makes me sad for her.

    DRJ (a83b8b)

  78. Gil, the one you should be worried about is the pedophile who started a cult that forced people to submit or die. In fact, he named his cult “submission.” And they’re still killing the unbelievers today.

  84. Not all Californians are as lucky as Dana is to live in Palos Verdes.

As gossip websites buzzed about Gwyneth Paltrow and President Obama — her “you’re so handsome that I can’t speak properly” is already being mocked unmercifully — her Los Angeles neighbors lashed out Friday that the Paltrow-hosted presidential fund-raiser had come at their expense.

Traffic stood still, children were stranded at school, residents could not leave their own driveways. That’s not the way life is supposed to be lived in Mandeville Canyon.

In a post on the Nextdoor Mandeville Canyon website, a private social network for area residents, Bret Lewis said that the neighborhood did not need people like Ms. Paltrow “who pay no heed to the concerns of their neighbors.” …..

The anger began building outside Ms. Paltrow’s home on Thursday even while Mr. Obama mingled inside during the two-and-a-half-hour event, where it cost a $1,000 donation to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee to listen to the president, and $15,000 to have dinner with him.

“I have a crying child on a soccer field!” one woman yelled as she passed by. (She was one of the few residents who were allowed to drive through.)

Mr. Lewis, in his post, said his family ended up in a restaurant “with a bunch of other displaced residents.” ….
Kim Peterson, in another post, said residents were misled about the extent of the presidential security and the impact it would have on traffic. “The biggest problem yesterday is we did not know the Canyon would be totally closed down,” she said. Otherwise, she said, “we could have all planned accordingly.”

But in Mr. Lewis’s opinion, it was “more than poor planning, it’s an abuse of power and, most importantly, unneighborly…..”
