SNL: White People, Your Days Are Numbered
[guest post by Dana]
This weekend’s episode of Saturday Night Live had a fake PSA directed at white people: your days of privilege and dominance are numbered.
On a side note, it’s ironic that in almost 40 years of SNL, there have been no Latino cast members (if you don’t count Chilean comedian, Horatio Sanz, and Venezuelan, Fred Armisen).

Maybe they have not been on it cos they’re funny?

Gus (7cc192) — 10/6/2014 @ 9:22 pmgazzer, quite right – maybe Lorne Michaels hires people based strictly on talent. However, there are those who would disagree. Perhaps they would like to see a quota system in place? (I’m only half kidding.)
It’s funny though that in this day and age, SNL seems to lack self-awareness in light of the touchy subject matter.
Dana (4dbf62) — 10/6/2014 @ 9:23 pmYou want to know what’s funny? Not SNL. This:

I think it’s time for the circling-the-drain dinosaurs who populate the dying, legacy LHMFM at places like CNN or the NYT to lecture the Whites and Asians in successful high-tech companies lke Apple and Google about their miserable track record in meeting diversity hiring goals. By which they mean “hiring and promoting blacks.”
That’s always a knee slapper.
Steve57 (b50fab) — 10/6/2014 @ 10:25 pmWhen you’re catering to progressives, you can’t go wrong by hating whites.
Steven Den Beste (99cfa1) — 10/6/2014 @ 10:48 pmBut why wouldn’t we count them? Are they “white Latinos?”

redc1c4 (abd49e) — 10/7/2014 @ 1:01 amYou’ve got to be into teh ghey to get in the entertainment industry for a long time now, and Latinos are not — not openly, anyway. And that includes Latino audiences.
nk (dbc370) — 10/7/2014 @ 4:03 amAnd conservative in other respects, too. Which makes this PSA whistling past the graveyard for the chingados who made it.
nk (dbc370) — 10/7/2014 @ 4:06 amAnd let’s see if CNN will tell the truth about Wilson. “He was a token; we only hired him back then because he was black. We did not care about his qualifications, only about his skin tone. He turned out to be worthless; that’s why we never gave him any meaningful promotion and got rid of him when he became more trouble than he was worth.’
nk (dbc370) — 10/7/2014 @ 4:46 amwell their quality control has been lacking since Eddie Murphy left

Yeah, I’ve seen gays and lesbians have a problem with transgenders even more than normal people do. It makes sense. A lesbian picks up a smoking hot “Lola”, and after some necking the lesbian reaches for some heavier petting and instead of finding the thing she likes best she’s touching the thing she hates most. Similarly, a gay guy picks up an “adorable twink” and instead of a thing that will give him a milky load in his power glutes, it’s a nubbin of reshaped vaginal tissue held up by a catheter.

Yea, I wonder the same thing. That show has been horrible for years, yet it somehow manages to hang on, never getting any better but remaining as mediocre as ever. In that regard, it’s analogous to some of the corporate dinosaurs of America (eg, GM, Chrysler, Sears, JC Pennys) or cities like Detroit or Atlantic City (whose decades-long attempt to enliven itself with gambling and casinos continues to crumble), blue-state northeastern America (where climate, both politically and meteorologically, continues to chase away people) or countries like Mexico.
Such things are sort of like real-life zombies.
Mark (c160ec) — 10/7/2014 @ 7:34 amLeave it to progressives to perfect the practice of self-loathing. I weep for their children and ours.

And how many Asian cast members have there been? Muslim? Indian? Native American? Japanese? . . .
The mote of dust in your neighbor’s eye, the beam in your own.

It hasn’t really been good since the first season. (1975-76) (I thought that was 1974-75 because so much of it was about President Ford stumbling)
Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead.
He died in 1975, after a long stay in the hospital, and each day it would be announced that Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still alive.
Such things are sort of like real-life zombies.
Forty years! Or thirty-nine or thirty-eight.
There still may be a fraction of some good material – much smaller tahn in the frrist year, though.
And some of its news jokes only make sense if you have acertain political point of view.
Sammy Finkelman (067111) — 10/7/2014 @ 11:28 amNotice they are made out to be nerdy and uncool. But don’t forget that having a steady job makes up for it.
AZ Bob (c949f7) — 10/7/2014 @ 3:06 pmHumans always seek to have as much privilege as possible. That is one of the core attributes of humanity.
White people are human.
Ergo, if white people were aware that they were privileged, they would fight to defend it and expand it, because they are human.
So is the purpose of increasing awareness of white privilege (in this country at least; it is certainly not worldwide) to entrench it?
Michael (e545b1) — 10/7/2014 @ 4:19 pmyou know who’s white is that marie harff person

AZ Bob (34bb80) — 10/7/2014 @ 5:54 pmSammy,
Benjamin Netanyahu calls Fatah headquarters and asks to speak to Yassir Arafat. The receptionist is a little shocked, but she answers him politely. “I’m sorry, Mr. Prime Minister, but Chairman Araft is dead.” The next day, Netanyahu calls again and again asks to speak to Arafat. The receptionist is even more shocked, but still polite. “I’m sorry, Mr. Prime Minister, but Chairman Arafat is dead.” The next day, the same story, Netanyahu calls and asks to speak to Arafat, and the receptionist can’t take it anymore. “Mr. Prime Minister, I’ve already told you twice that Chairman Arafat is dead. Why do you keep calling?” And Netanyahu says, “I just like hearing it”.
nk (dbc370) — 10/7/2014 @ 6:09 pmAmen, felipe.
Patricia (5fc097) — 10/8/2014 @ 8:46 amIts always amazed/amused me that it is liberals who are quickest to separate people based on skin color, including even stereotypical skin color. Many Mexicans are quite white and consider themselves such. There are even blonde Mexicans (gasp!). Yet here we see SNL clearly indicating that there are White People and then there are Brown Mexican People. As various Hispanics groups assimilate they will gradually turn into “White People”, just as did the Italians, Greeks, etc.
