Obama Addresses Immigration Crisis the Way You Think He Would

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 12:22 pm

Don’t you try to tell me that Obama isn’t taking this illegal immigrant crisis seriously. According to a faceless functionary who visited the Rio Grande Valley, the Obama administration “has put on an extraordinary inter-agency effort” to handle the crisis. For proof, look no further than New Mexico, where a brand-spanking-new detention center is being opened up:

New detention facilities will be opened to house immigrant families caught crossing the border illegally amid a surge from Central America, the Obama administration said Friday.

The first will be a 700-bed family detention facility at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Artesia, New Mexico, the Homeland Security Department said. The training center is home to the Border Patrol’s training academy.

700 beds! Wow! That ought to pretty much take care of the problem, don’t you think?

Mayorkas said about 39,000 adults with children have been apprehended at the border since the start of the budget year in October. The administration has released an unspecified number of them into the U.S. in recent months with instructions to report later to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement offices. Mayorkas, the No. 2 official at the agency and former head of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, told reporters he didn’t know how many people have been released or subsequently appeared as ordered.

OK, maybe not.

Funny how they never seem to know the numbers . . . when the numbers would clearly be embarrassing. In the initial days of ObamaCare, they claimed they had no clue how many people had signed up — even though they did know, and lied, because almost nobody had signed up. Here, I guarantee you they know how many people they have released — and are lying, because they’re releasing almost everybody, and virtually none of the people they release are coming back.

As an aside: it’s sad to see Mayorkas, a former U.S. Attorney for Los Angeles, participating in the dishonesty.

Mayorkas said the administration will also send more immigration judges, ICE attorneys and other immigration officials to the region to help process immigrants caught crossing the border illegally and, when possible, quickly return them to their home countries.

Immigrants crossing the border illegally have overwhelmed U.S. immigration agencies. More than 174,000 people, mostly from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala, have been arrested in Texas’ Rio Grande Valley this year.

But there’s 700 more beds in New Mexico! And they don’t know how many of those 174,000 they have released — including gang members and cartel footsoldiers — but it can’t be much more than 99%. So rest easy, America. Obama is on the case!

  1. Note: I no longer use the title “President” in front of Obama’s name. That is deliberate. The release of the Taliban 5 cemented the decision for me.

  3. A quote from the faceless functionary link:

“We are exploring every lawful option to stem the tide and with the combined efforts of multiple components of our government, the support of Congress and our partnerships without allies in Mexico and Central America I believe we will”.

    Another public school triumph.

  4. The only person in Mexico that Obama doesn’t want to see come across the border is the Marine who is detained in prison down there.

I’m not sure if it’s just my imagination but I’d swear the media more frequently used the salutation of “Mr. Bush” in stories or reports regarding George W Bush back when he was president and over the past 6 years have more consistently and frequently used “President Obama.”

I personally have long favored “President Goddamn America,” which in light of ongoing circumstances seems to be not an overly flippant designation but instead a fairly accurate one.

  7. these U.S. Attorney people work for America’s deeply corrupt and viciously fascist Department of Justice, no?

“participating in the dishonesty” is what they signed up for

  8. Did you see Michelle Malkin’s article at NationalReview.com

It’s subtitled, “The administration quietly redistributes illegal aliens through military bases”.

IANAL so have no idea if this is reasonable, but: elsewhere I’ve seen the suggestion that they’re moving these underage illegals around because (1) military bases are federal-owned, thus (2) the state’s child-welfare agencies need a court order to seize the kids, so (3) the feds are playing musical chairs with these kids to keep their numbers and origins from becoming public knowledge.

The sad thing is, my faith in this administration is so low I wouldn’t put ANYTHING past Obama and company.

She’ll have to get past Michelle first.
