  8. nk – That’s what I start getting directed to – http://www.readgoogle-analytics.com or something. Starts a loop that doesn’t finish.

When they first when kerfloogie, nothing happened after pressing submit.

  9. Read is what it tells you to do, not part of the url.

I have not seen any maths yet.

  10. Shall I take that to mean that I got it working again?

  13. “Shall I take that to mean that I got it working again?”

Admin Guy – If there are no Kate Upton picture of the front page for important journalistic purposes, it is not yet working.

    daleyrocks (bf33e9)

  14. I think they’re trying to say it’s working, Admin Guy.

    Patterico (9c670f)

  15. Whoa. I managed to leave the comment, but there was a weird re-direct afterwards.

  16. No, still get thrown into the google-analytics loop.

  36. @35– Warning Admin Guy: you are treading dangerously close to the Colonel’s territory and don’t do anything to awake the long-sleeping Limerick Avenger.

That must have been some watch. That purchase appears to have set the whole site on its edge.

  47. What about now?

    Admin Guy (a9e0aa)

  48. Avatars! No comment preview.

    nk (dbc370)

  49. Now you did it, deleted comments so the numbering is off! Suh-weet.

    daleyrocks (bf33e9)

  50. Perfect posting! Comment box has no right border and no comment preview.

    nk (dbc370)

  51. No redirect after comment, but now we have space for avatars. Maybe I’ll use Kate.

Plus no options for bold, itals, quote.

    daleyrocks (bf33e9)

  52. Patterico – This evening I was fortunate to have eaten the best piece of meat in my life. At Vers a restaurant in Chatam, I had Duck Breast served perfectly medium rare done in one of those fancy water machines. As a wood coal nazi, I must admit the herbs, grill marks and preparation made this the best culinary experience I have had. And the table side made desert was through the roof. A deconstructed tiramisu.

    mg (31009b)

  53. @nk: Yep. It turns out that the old comment page didn’t play well with an updated WordPress component. All this so Patterico can post a video tomorrow!

Working on converting the old code.

    Admin Guy (a9e0aa)

  54. And I just this minute finished getting a gravatar. Sniff!

    nk (dbc370)

  55. History is being created before my eyes.

    I am not worthy.

    daleyrocks (bf33e9)

  56. I wonder if itals work ?

    Or bold ?

The permalink in the middle is an interesting touch, I must admit …

    Alastor (2e7f9f)

  57. So what happened to the () thingie ?

    Alastor (2e7f9f)

  58. And an invisible Preview !

Admin Guy is an applications prog, eh ?

    (/me *mallards*, grinning)

    Alastor (2e7f9f)

  59. It was a nice one too. A horsie. I put the i and b codes in manually.

    nk (dbc370)

  60. And didn’t close the bold properly?

    nk (dbc370)

  61. Obama is a turd.

    Kevin M (b357ee)

  62. Any chance getting the “link” button to work while you’re at it?

    Kevin M (b357ee)

  63. The worst problem is that the cursor (and the text) in the comment box continues past the point you can see it on the right before starting the next line.

    Sammy Finkelman (b66da2)

  64. @Sammy Finkelman (#63): I don’t have that problem. Which browser (including version)?

    Admin Guy (a9e0aa)

  65. No avatar horsie?

    nk (dbc370)

  66. Yea, the message box extends way over to the right side of the page, past the gray panel on the right side of the page (is that sort of a political metaphor? If so, good!). I’m using Firefox 29.0.1.

    JD (78609b)

  68. 64. Admin Guy @64.

I don’t have that problem. Which browser (including version)?

This is Internet Explorer. I don’t know what version, but it keeps asking me to upgrade to Internet Explorer 8, I think. This is running on a windows XP computer.

I’ll check it later in the day on other computers and browsers.

I have FireFox also installed on this computer, but it tells me:

Firefox had a problem and crashed. We’ll try to restore your tabs and windows when it restarts.

I don’t remember how long ago it was when I last used it. If I restart it now, the computer wll choke because of all the windows open. But I’ll test it out, and also some other places.

Now all things work on all browsers. The link function only used to work with FireFox some other place, I think. (not Internet Explorer)

I can do all the other things – italics, bold strikeout and

    blockquote

manually, but I never memorized the somewhat complicated way to link with something other than the exact URL showing. Milhouse mentioned this a
    few times.

By the way, once I put in blockquote, the Preview used to stop showing any changes, but now I am seeing it. But I don’t know why here is extra line showing after the 3rd blockquote in this post – the one that just has the word blockquote. I didn’t put in a carriage return – it’s all on one line here in the comment box.

I am seeing the cursor go all the way to the right, into the sidebar with the Categories, Archives and Favorote Sites, but no text appears above the cursor.

It might have something to do with the monitor screen width, I think.

    Sammy Finkelman (b66da2)

  69. The extra line that I saw in the preview after

    blockquote

disappeared when it was sent to Patterico. And it’s not there now in the Preview.

    Sammy Finkelman (b66da2)

  70. Wait, isn’t strikeout working?

It doesn’t show up in the Preview.

    Sammy Finkelman (b66da2)

  71. Working on converting the old code.

FWIW, it sure would be nice if this website eventually had a larger typeface and a sans serif font, which is easier on the eyes. I notice the LA Times recently revamped pages makes the same mistake of using a format for its readers forum that also contains overly small serif type, unlike that of various other webpage message fields, including the one of the New York Times.

    nk (dbc370)

  73. Told you (about Sammy), Admin Guy.

    nk (dbc370)

  74. Hey, I don’t see a strike-out function.

  75. Admin Guy @ 34 What happens if I disable the Amazon box?

Then nobody will be able to buy from Amazon in such a way so that a portion is given to Patterico, unless they use a alink in a post or comment)

By the way, I don’t understand how long or in what way you can use Amazon and it still help Patterico. The special URL disappears with the first click on Amazon.

The Amazon box is here now. If it doesn’t work, you can always buy through Sammy Finkelman’s short web option.

    http://www.tinyurl.com/btSFswo

btSFswo = Buy Through Sammy Finkelman’s Short Web Option.

It goes to the same place:

    http://www.amazon.com/?_encoding=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&linkCode=ur2&tag=patterspontif-20

    Sammy Finkelman (b66da2)

  76. The comment box now has a right boundary.

    Sammy Finkelman (b66da2)

  77. No, it’s not fixed. It’s just that the comment thread here got long enough to fall below

    Meta:
    RSS 2.0
    Comments RSS 2.0

    Sammy Finkelman (b66da2)

  78. re: 41 in the GDP shrinks thread.

I only know that this is Internet Explorer, running under Windows XP, but I don’t know if the Internet Explorer version is 5, 6, 7 or 8. I have a folder that has IE5 as part of its name, but don’t know if that was maybe before an upgrade. The program seems to want to tell me something about Internet Explorer 8 every time or almost every time it starts.

    Sammy Finkelman (b66da2)

  79. This version of Internet Explorer, under windows 7 I think, has the comment box with a right boundary even before

    Meta: RSS 2.0
    Comments RSS 2.0

    is hit.

But not we have bold ilalics, link and quote back. b and i are abbrevbiated. strikeoput is still missings.

So maybe I see it, not because it is a different browser and operating system, but because it has been fixed.

I waited too long to test it out.

    Sammy Finkelman (d22d64)

  80. Firefox tells me Patterico is blocked, but it is lying.

    Sammy Finkelman (d22d64)

  81. FireFox here.

    Sammy Finkelman (d22d64)

  82. I’m not seeing the bold, italics, link and quote boxes. Did they come back, and then go away again, or does it depend on the browser?

    Sammy Finkelman (b66da2)

  83. The words “Comment by” are now gone.

    Sammy Finkelman (b66da2)

  84. I only se ethe comment shortcut boxes after I type a letter into the comment box.

Blockquote is now improved, in that you don’t get two at one time and have to insert the quote text in the middle.

b and i also have the start and stop separately.

    i is now em

    And b is now strong

    Strikeout is misisng.

Link works the way it always did except now it’s working in Internet Explorer. This version anyway.,

    Sammy Finkelman (d22d64)

  85. I don’t see any buttons here. Although I did see it somewhere else.

And by the way, even the words Bold Italics Link Strikeout and Quote needed a personal explanation when I first came here.

The boxes now need even more of an explanation, so there should be a page wth a link at the top or side explaining them.

    Sammy Finkelman (8cd742)

  86. I see the 4 boxes here – that say b i link and quote – but I do not see them on my Windows XP omputer running Internet Explorer 8.

I found out what it was here by Alt-L. It is Internet Explorer 9. And I think Windows 7.
