“Dude, This Was Like Two Years Ago!”

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 8:15 pm

While being asked if he edited misleading Benghazi talking points, this douchebag former NSC spokesman reveals his true self in under one minute:

Time for a new attitude, sir.

And while you’re at it? . . .

. . . Also time for a new haircut.

  4. Dude. What was the question? His asshaterry and bluster makes you wonder if he was involved. He lied on there about what Morrell testified to.

    JD (b9a5f3)

  5. That was like 2 years ago. At this point, what does it matter?

    narciso (3fec35)

  9. The dead people what are dead are part of this same douchebag State Department Beltway CIA ensemble. They just were the douchebags what got caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.

This is why it’s hard for me to get too worked up about Benghazi.

    happyfeet (8ce051)

  10. Obama couldnt be bothered to join everyone in the Situation room. He was getting his rest for his Vegas fundraiser. Rhodes and Vietor and Favreau were holding down the fort.

    JD (b9a5f3)

  11. Reminds me of Rob Schneider and his different meanings of the word “dude”.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  12. Yeah, happydude. I mean, really, what difference at this point does it make?

We got this Sterling hater guy and that’s a bad thing with the sports and all. Dude, really.

Ford is smoking the old crack pipe, but cool, cool.

Hil is a lock, all’s good and Willie got a black belt. It’s all good.

  20. Note to Obama administration: there is no expiration date on being a d***wad.

    Once a d***wad, always a d***wad.

    Steve57 (525198)

  21. Well, actually it is possible for a d***wad to see the error of their ways and reform.

Like the guy who kicked me in the head in the helo dunker back in AOCS in the Summer of ’88. Sure, it doesn’t feel good getting kicked in the head by somebody wearing steel-toed flight boots. Shortly after the divers hauled him out of the water he apologized. And that wasn’t even the reason I thought he was slightly a d***wad.

Just so you know, I didn’t hold it against him. I figure if you have to ditch your helo at sea, you’re probably going to get kicked in the head or the equivalent. So I thanked him for injecting a bit of reality into the training scenario.

So it is possible. Just not for anyone Obama would hire.

    Steve57 (525198)

  22. Ok, I’m exaggerating. He didn’t apologize. I don’t believe he even knew he had kicked me in the head. So I didn’t thank him.

    But I did think it.

  32. Via Ace, in defense of the WH fraternity:

You can’t hold a whole fraternity responsible for the behavior of a few, sick twisted individuals. For if you do, then shouldn’t we blame the whole fraternity system? And if the whole fraternity system is guilty, then isn’t this an indictment of our educational institutions in general? I put it to you, [Bret] – isn’t this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do whatever you want to us, but we’re not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America!

  33. Attkisson via Ace, two tidbits:

Morell stated that he believed it was the FBI that removed the references “to prevent compromising an ongoing criminal investigation.

Ace: ‘He would later claim his “belief” that the FBI had made these edits, when he himself had done so, was an “error.”‘

Morell has since gone to work as counsel for Beacon Global Strategies, a strategic relations PR firm dominated by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton officials and Obama administration officials. (Disclosure: In January, Morell was hired as an analyst for CBS News where I was previously employed.)

  37. SHARYL ATTKISSON: Internal Emails: State Dept. Immediately Attributed Benghazi Attacks to Terrorist Group. “A newly-released government email indicates that within hours of the Sept. 11, 2012 attacks on Americans in Benghazi, Libya; the State Department had already concluded with certainty that the Islamic militia terrorist group Ansar al Sharia was to blame. The private, internal communication directly contradicts the message that President Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice and White House press secretary Jay Carney repeated publicly over the course of the next several weeks. They often maintained that an anti-Islamic YouTube video inspired a spontaneous demonstration that escalated into violence.”

  40. One of the takeaways is that the Obama administration failed to appreciate the significance of that date – September 11th – and had taken no action to put all of our embassies, most especially in the Middle East, on high alert. A true instance of dereliction of duty. Idiocracy.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  41. Dude… two years have passed. It has passed the sell by date.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  42. Hmm…. The Ben Rhodes guy in the email…it’s not like he has a connection to the President of CBS News or anything is it?

I wonder what Sharyl Attkisson might have to say about that.

    Nathaniel Wright (a2cff6)

  43. Hillary Clinton sent an email at 10PM on 9/11/12 that stated the attack was due to the video. So 3AM call or 10PM email, it’s incompetence all the way around and another demonstration of why liberal Democrats can’t be trusted with foreign policy or national security.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  44. My interest lies in who suggested it and why the heck Vietor agreed to be interviewed by Bret Baier. Is he so arrogant and attention starved that he thought he could buffalo Baier? To me, Tommy’s idiotic revelation about “editing talking points–that’s what bureaucrats do all day long”, was actually even more stupid than his “duuuude”.

    elissa (dc627d)

What’s worse is not only did they not do anything. They issued a press release the day before about how prepared they were.

    http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2012/09/10/readout-president-s-meeting-senior-administration-officials-our-prepared

    And then did nothing.

Look. I know I’m not the only guy who ever served. And I’m hardly a bad@$$. But during my worst hangover I could have defended the country better than these clowns.

    I find this remarkable.

    So I remark.

    Sorry.

    Oh. Oh really.

Earlier today the President heard from key national security principals on our preparedness and security posture on the eve of the eleventh anniversary of September 11th. Over the past month, Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism John Brennan has convened numerous meetings to review security measures in place. During the briefing today, the President and the Principals discussed specific measures we are taking in the Homeland to prevent 9/11 related attacks as well as the steps taken to protect U.S. persons and facilities abroad, as well as force protection. The President reiterated that Departments and agencies must do everything possible to protect the American people, both at home and abroad.

I thought I had earlier discovered the limits of my disgust. But no.

  57. “Dude, where was Obama on the night of the attack ?”

    Elephant Stone (6a6f37)

  58. It’s less than 500 miles from Sigonella to Benghazi. How hard would it have been to, oh by the way while you’re issuing press releases, deploy some assets there. The Islamists were putting up flyers all over Cairo inviting everyone to the riot. They were ready. Why not us?

Cairo is further away. If we had been ready for something going wrong in Cairo…

…the President and the Principals discussed specific measures we are taking in the Homeland to prevent 9/11 related attacks as well as the steps taken to protect U.S. persons and facilities abroad, as well as force protection. The President reiterated that Departments and agencies must do everything possible to protect the American people, both at home and abroad.

…Benghazi would have been even easier to respond to.

How come Prom Queen gets a pass for doing nothing while preemptively bragging about doing everything possible?

How about the Italians? I know they have a spotty reputation, but in fact they are not to be despised. True, you don’t want one of their conscript units full of guys who really don’t want to be there and are looking for the earliest opportunity to surrender. But they can and do field good units.

Take Naval Special Warfare. Our SEALs are modeled after La Flotiglia Decima Mas. I’ve read US Army reports that, after having worked with the Carabinieri and watching them in action, suggest that we ought to be copying them. The Brit general who went up against them at El Alamein said the Parachutists of the Folgore were the bravest men he had ever seen. They fought to the last round, and wouldn’t surrender unless they were given Honore Del Armi. The honor of arms. They got to march out and keep their weapons. I’ve heard the Spanish are the only tough Latins. But the Italians didn’t cut and run after the 2003 Nasriyah attack. Fabrizio Quattrocchi showed Al Qaeda how an Italian dies.

The Greeks were even closer. I know the Hellenes could have brought something.

It looks like in Barack Obama’s world doing everything possible to protect the American people doesn’t extend to mentioning it to anybody.

    Steve57 (525198)

  59. McEwen and Miniter, have six scenarios, in their book about the Seals, on how this could have been
dealt with, from a special forces contingent, to a drone, to cruise missiles from Gaeta.

    Sammy Finkelman (0f2215)

  61. Breaking news: House Speaker John Boehner says a special committee will be informed to investigate Benghazi. This was on the CS Evening News.

(This is because of the horserace theory of journalism. They always cover things when it can affect many events)

Scott Pelley seemed to complain that there had alrteady been four committees that had held hearings.

CBS said Boehner had earlier been against this but had changed his mind, partially because the Whote Huse was resisting subpoenas. Trey Goudy will head the committee.

CBS showed Goudy saying various agenncies knew it was not about a video.

    That shows his ignorance.

Of course it was not about a video, but the perpetrators said so that night!

Understand why they said so. If that was true, it would mean that the attack had not been long in the planning, because just about nobody knew about the video the day before!

Actually, nobody in Libya knew about the video until they were told about it by the attackers. (the Cairo protest had not actually bene about a video, so that’s why they didn’t hear about it before.)

The attackers posted guards around the mission where the Ambassador had been staying, attracted a crowd by making claims that American guards had killed non-violent protesters, and then harrangued the people who came, includinbg a reporter for the New York Times, about the video.

The New York Times reported several times that the story about the video being the motivation came from the attackers. In most detail last December, but also in October, 2012.

This was of course, no more the true reason for the attack than the claim today by Ukrainian separatists that President Obama was sending fascists from Kiev to kill them.

    Sammy Finkelman (0f2215)

  62. Ukraine needs a Themisticles, not a Leonidas.

I hope they don’t continue barking up the wrong tree.

  64. Six different scenarios, narciso? And yet our masters of the universe from the Harvard faculty lounge still screwed it up.

They never even advanced to the point of coming up with plan A.

    Steve57 (525198)

  65. Vietor is the person who wrote that there was massive disinformation out there, particularly with Congress, and in the next sentence explained that they all think it was premeditated because of innaccurate assumptions or (earlier) briefings.

And that there was NSC guidance that they needed to brief member of Congress and the press and “correct the record.”

Benjamin Rhodes also used the phraase “correct the record” in internal government e-mails.
