Manchester Anti-Free Speech Meeting: Video

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 7:08 pm

Bill Hobbs has posted the YouTube video of that Manchester anti-free speech meeting:

He has also posted his account on Facebook.

My thoughts on the Muslim community event in Manchester on June 4, 2013:
I was there for the whole thing, to take pictures and video. The crowd was mostly angry about the federal prosecutor’s prior statement that some anti-Islamic speech could be criminal. (This is what talk radio and various right-wing websites focused on to urge people to attend the meeting – not Islam, but the implied threat to prosecute people for speech deemed by the government to be offensive to Muslims.) The crowd inside became increasingly agitated as it became clear the event would not be permitted to become a discussion of that important First Amendment issue, but instead was set up as a lecture in which two federal officials and several Muslims lectured the crowd about how great Muslims are.

The lecture format was confirmed when, at the end, they announced they would take only TWO questions – and the prosecutor quickly ducked out the side door (after hilariously bragging he held the same job once held by Andrew Jackson).

Listening to the first ten minutes, the crowd sounds like it has its share of annoying troublemakers. It also sounds like most people wanted to listen, but were disturbed by the handful of loudmouths. I don’t know if this holds after the first ten minutes, and I have too much to do right now to watch the whole thing tonight.

It sounds like Killian wimped out of talking about how he was going to prosecute inflammatory speech, which is a shame but predictable, I suppose, once attention began to focus on the talk. It’s harder to stamp out freedoms in the light.

  1. it sounds for all the world like it was mostly just an exercise where everyone was supposed to indulge the fascist and corrupt department of justice as they condescendingly spewed contrived fascist dogma on average citizens

Yep, like vandalism, it’s better to do it like rats under cover of darkness.

  4. the pig us attorney is mostly playing the role of a foreshadowing device I think

notice how you haven’t heard a peep of protest out of that hooch what food stamp anointed as his successor

these fascist piggy pigs are just getting warmed up

my favorite part is how they brought their pet fbi thug

we’ll definitely be seeing lots more of that i think

  5. …the federal prosecutor’s prior statement that some anti-Islamic speech could be criminal.

All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.

People like Killian should be airlifted to a site in Iran, Egypt or Afghanistan, etc, and required to live there for the remainder of their life.

  6. I never thought I’d do this but I’ve got to stick up for the Vandals. I’m convinced by history the were perfectly willing to pillage in broad daylight.

  8. For those who want to skip the preliminaries, Killian begins speaking at 39:00.

  9. Speaking of free speech, sometimes people’s speech can be a little too free.

I’m going to the library tomorrow so I can look up new words for me to describe my disgust with this crowd.

Servicemen had to die to get Tiger Beat reelected.

  10. After viewing just the first seven minutes of Killian’s drone, I can confirm that this statement from Hobbs’ Facebook post sums up the train wreck:

Public Speaking 101: Know why your audience is there, and speak to that. This entire event failed on that score.

    aunursa (7014a8)

  11. So nothing much happened. There was a joke that during the red scare there would be more FBI informants than communists at communist meetings. It seems that the would-be intimidators, if that was their intent, got themselves vastly outnumbered by their intimidees tonight.

  12. Alhamdulillah! Laylat al-khair.

  13. The audience did seem like they were rude and obnoxious. But I cannot believe how the one attorney said they were there to look for civil rights violations! Against Muslims! Eric Holder must be proud.

So IOW they were sent out to pander to the political wing of the Islalmists! That’s why the meeting threw them off their game.

  14. if more people had been more rude to hitler things might have turned out rather different

    happyfeet (8ce051)

  15. Of course they were rude and obnoxious. They’re Americans. Americans have a right to be rude and obnoxious.

Which is why I never punished the Sailors who followed up the question “Sir, may I ask you a question?” with some variation of “Who the f*** do you think you are…”

Like I didn’t see that coming.

But I never punished them. I just gave them extra duty, which is not a punishment but intended to correct a deficiency.

The chiefs were pretty good about identifying these guys’ deficiencies. Typically if a problem child is willing to walk up to an O and demand to know who the f*** he thinks he is then that O isn’t the only one finding fault with the Sailor.

It dawned on me much later I could have solved the whole problem by holding annual training on who the f*** I thought I was but by then the situation sort of resolved itself because they figured out on their own who the f*** I thought I was.

I am all about the free exchange of ideas, no matter how rude and obnoxious.

  16. “I am all about the free exchange of ideas, no matter how rude and obnoxious.”

Steve57 – Free exchange of ideas is great and when I caught something uttered under somebody’s breath I would usually wheel around and in full bray say “That’s Mister Shithead to you dickhead. And don’t forget, I’m the person who signs your paycheck.”

That type of exchange of ideas usually cleared up any misunderstandings very quickly.

  17. Just more proof how much Islam sucks

    TexasJew (f4f9ee)

  18. Islam is fine it’s just that it has a small but very vigorous fascist element what is making common cause with the food stamp administration’s neo-fascist america-rape

  19. Just so you know, I didn’t have those problems a lot. Who the f*** I thought I was was a guy who by some accident of nature or Congress happened to be an officer in the Navy. As long as I was I was willing to pay out of pocket for ice cream or soda for my working parties. I’d buy you a beer if I ran into you on liberty. For the effort. But if I ran into someone who had some sort of general problem with authority I couldn’t, wouldn’t, put up with it.

My dad and my uncles were all chiefs. Navy, Coast Guard, and Fire Department (after reaching Army Sergeant). I had to hold my head up at Thanksgiving.

    Steve57 (9b1cdb)

  20. I also had to make the Navy work, not like I didn’t have help and sometimes it was even fun.

    Steve57 (9b1cdb)

  21. Well who the f*** does he think he is? I must have missed a few pages in the novel.

    papertiger (c2d6da)

  22. Naw. Just kidding. I like the Navy. They gave me a boat ride a couple times.

    papertiger (c2d6da)

  23. Hey Steve57,

BTW, who the f*** DO you think you are? Just curious…

  24. “I also had to make the Navy work…”

Wait, what? You had to make the Navy work? Like the WHOLE Navy? You can run a nuclear sub AND a jet fighter AND a hospital AND the intel community AND the SEALs too? All at the same time?

    You must a GENIUS!!!!

    Bets (717964)

  25. Basically what I see coming is they’re going to justify no trash talking islham (here piggy piggy) as a “you cannot yell fire in a crowded theater” thing. That will cause needless panic and possible injury. It’s the same with insulting islham. The only difference is, it will cause injury.

Don’t fix the fact that they will injure people needlessly, just squelch free speech. THIS is why our government sucks.

  26. I did not watch the video but on another site I saw a clip in which one of the speakers helpfully offered a citation of the U.S. Code under which he though it was possible to prosecute people for interfering with someone else’s peaceful enjoyment of their civil rights. The speaker was partially drowned out by the crowd.

If the DOJ’s theory about prosecution has any merit, which seems doubtful, apart from the government’s ability to intimidate, it might be a good arrow to stick in quivers fighting back at attacks by practictioners of political correctness.

    daleyrocks (bf33e9)

  27. The immigrant, who obviously doesn’t understand US government philosophy or history. At about 8:15 he states that the Bill of Rights gave us our rights. He couldn’t be more WRONG. Neither the Constitution nor the Bill of Rights do not give citizens their rights. These documents recognize that citizens have unalienable rights and limits government power by stating that the government may not infringe those rights.

These people really should learn something before they start preaching to us about our rights!

    WarEagle82 (2b7355)

  28. Several people in the audience were terribly rude to the woman who started to speak around 1 hour and 10 minutes into the presentation.

Of course, the woman was annoying as well and certainly didn’t help herself much during her presentation.

Why is the government sponsoring and paying for this nonsense in the first place?

Why do we care about the ethnic breakdown of Muslims in America? Why is the left obsessed with RACE? The government should have never convened this event. Frankly, I suspect they were hoping for some kind of confrontation and since they didn’t get one they allow there fellow travelers in the MSM to manufacture a controversy.

    WarEagle82 (2b7355)

  29. Damn! I was hoping to see violent tea partiers with pitchforks, torches, tar, and feathers. Don’t you think those threatening our civil liberties would look chic in tar and feathers? Maybe with an accompanying torch or pitchfork rammed up what they sit on? I think it would be just Fabulousssss!

Pitchforks and torches are not included in this introductory offer. You just pay for the additional shipping and handling. 30. Yesterday was “Speak Out and Tell the Truth About Islam Day” in the UK.

Here’s my contribution from the ever-clear and truthful Dan Greenfield, Sultan Knish:
    http://frontpagemag.com/2013/dgreenfield/under-the-islamists-blacks-were-exploited-even-more-ex-slaves-speak-out-about-muslim-rule/

So far, there have been over 21,000 murderous jihad attacks published by news media since 9/11/01 – not counting war deaths and genocides. There have been over 100,000 killed in battle in Syria and whole villages wiped out as the plague of Islam has spread over Africa.

    Samuel H. (9372ec)

  31. PS – While the US has been present in our glorious might in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan, the slaughter of Christians and burning/destruction of churches and homes has been almost total.

With our tax dollars, we have been strengthening the enemy of good and destroying what is good.

Under Obama, has the US been targeting Al Queda or Christians and moderate peaceful muslims, former US friends?

No telling who US drones are taking out, since this administration, the left-wing media and its GOP enablers call Tea Party conservatives ‘terrorists’ and the public drug/sex/defecating union thugs at OWS and Trayvon Martin ‘good guys’.
