Russell Brand Victim of (Attempted) SWATting
TMZ, which kicks the L.A. Times‘s posterior on these stories every time, reports that Russell Brand is the latest (attempted) SWATting victim:
The swatting epidemic continues … this time, the victim is Russell Brand, TMZ has learned.
Law enforcement sources tell us … cops raced to Brand’s L.A. home after receiving a call from someone reporting two men with guns approaching the home.
We’re told the caller told police one of the men was black, one white — and they were each sporting body armor.
Brand had left his home half an hour earlier.
The incomplete roll call of SWATting victims: Russell Brand; Selena Gomez; Justin Timberlake; Rihanna; Sean Combs; Chris Brown; Tom Cruise; Paris Hilton; Clint Eastwood; Brian Krebs; the Jenners and Kardashians; Justin Bieber; Miley Cyrus; Ashton Kutcher; Simon Cowell; Aaron Walker; Erick Erickson; Mike Stack; and me.
You’d think LA LE would get a clue and start to put some kind of protocol in place to either track these calls, verify the caller or take a different approach to the call.
They can’t be completely helpless.
But the way they’re acting makes them seem very impotent.

and since they’re not actively shooting at innocent people I’d be wary of changing anything about their methods

as for expecting intelligent behavior from LA law enforcement agencies, you need to remember that they are much better at running gun bybacks then they are anything useful.
redc1c4 (403dff) — 4/8/2013 @ 6:45 pmhowever, you CAN count on the local cops to get there in time to write a report…
unless, of course, you car is stolen, in which case you have to go to the station, as LAPD will not dispatch a car to you.
if that means your OnStar or what have you doesn’t get turned on before the folks at the chop-shop cut it out, hey, thems the breaks: it’s not their fault you didn’t vote for higher taxes.

Icy (4b226c) — 4/8/2013 @ 10:06 pmRussell Brand? OK, it’s an attempted SWATting.
But an attempted celebrity SWATting? You’ll never get me to believe that.
