Hagel Met With Front Group for Iranian Regime

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 7:18 am

Another fact that apparently means nothing to Senate Republicans:

Documents obtained by The Daily Caller show that staffers for then-Sen. Chuck Hagel met repeatedly with a controversial pro-Iran lobby group, and some met with the organization’s president.

Hagel is President Barack Obama’s choice to be the next secretary of defense. Arizona Sen. John McCain and other Republicans have conceded that a vote — and likely confirmation — will take place during the week of Feb. 25.

Iranian state-run media have referred to the National Iranian-American Council (NIAC) since at least 2006 as “Iran’s lobby” in the U.S.

For Obama, this isn’t a bug. It’s a feature.

  1. for John McCain to criticize an administration for choosing unqualified candidates for high-profile positions would require an uncommon bit of courage on his part – nay, a wholly uncharacteristic brazenness and also chutzpah, cause it would draw withering criticism from the left and many jabs at his own demonstrably mediocre judgment in personnel matters

and him is not a particularly stand-up kinda guy in the face of criticism from the left

for he is a cowardly little man, and wholly without principle

  2. I was wondering when NIAC was going to show up, Ryu as the piece shows, went on to work in the NSC
and is now at the UN

  5. Hagel’s position right now is analogous to that LA Governor who proudly proclaimed that it would take discovering him in bed with a dead girl or a live boy for the voters to reject him.
The only thing that would convince the Senate not to confirm this “prized” member of The Club as SecDef would be a film of him consulting with DinnerJacket over the Israel strike plan.
The World’s Greatest Deliberative Body has become just another useless collection of preening butt-lickers and “Richard Craniums”.

  6. When you’ve got a SecState who, on his honeymoon, secretly met with the North Vietnamese government and Viet Cong leadership in Paris during critical peace negotiations, and who then returned to the U.S., put BACK on his uniform as an officer in the U.S. Naval Reserve, and told wildly fabricated lies about his fellow servicemen under oath before the Senate, why would anyone be surprised at anything?

  7. Don’t you just love how these characters like McCain and Graham are saying it would be an abuse of the Senate’s advise and consent power to actually, you know, advise and consent.

By “advise and consent” they obviously mean “rubberstamp” whatever incoherent gasbag the President nominates.

It’s just wonderful knowing the GOP senators take their Constitutional duties so seriously.
