Blatant L.A. Times Bias Against Israel

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 7:49 am

L.A. Times, November 23, 2012:

The cease-fire between Israel and Hamas was tested Friday when a group of Gazan youths approached the border in an area Israel considers an off-limits buffer zone. One young man was shot and killed, Palestinian officials said. Nineteen other people were reportedly injured.

The shootings marked the first episode of violence since the cease-fire went into effect.

It did? Israel was the first to break the cease-fire? Are you sure you want to stick to that story?

L.A. Times, November 21, 2012:

Whether the truce holds remains to be seen. Though most of the major Palestinian factions joined Hamas in Cairo to negotiate the deal, smaller, Al Qaeda-inspired extremist groups in Gaza have proved difficult to control.

Even after the cease-fire took effect, about half a dozen rockets were fired into Israel.

Oh well. Probably the reporter for the most recent story was simply unaware of the rocket attacks mentioned in the earlier story?

Um, no. Both stories were written by the same reporter: Edmund Sanders.

They are, quite simply, lying to their readers.

Thanks to df, who blogged this here.

  2. I prefer “brazen” to “blatant” in this case.

  3. Naw. Edmund doesn’t believe anything the Palestinians do should be considered “violence”. It’s only when the Jews do something that it becomes “violence”.

So firing a half dozen high-explosive devices at random into civilian areas is not violence, but shooting one infiltrator is. See?

  4. Look guys, it was all a misunderstanding. The Gaza Estes Model Rocket Society was just having a Launch Fair, that’s all.

    Nothing to see.

  5. See, when the Palestinians do it, it is a rogue faction, so it doesn’t count. The Israeli’s mistake is not leaving border security to some Kach faction.

  6. Yeah but, firing rockets into Israel does NOT count as an “episode of violence” unless someone actually gets killed!

  7. What you are missing is the idea that the Palestinians don’t actually commit violence until their little rocket attacks end up killing somebody. Otherwise, they are just exuberantly celebrating something or other with a cross-border fireworks show.

It’s kind of like when I have too much to drink at the local pub, get into an argument, then take a wild swing at some fellow and miss him by two feet. If he responds by connecting with a punch to my nose then clearly he is the instigator since my attempt at a punch was so inept.

  10. I think the analogy the Times might employ would be thus:

Tho you feed it and change its shreds, your hamster hates your guts free in your world while he locked in his cage.

He runs only at night, all night, to get even. But until the day he gives the family hanta virus nothing he can do comes close. You euthanize the cute little vermin.

    For this you must die.

  18. Anti-Israeli bias at the LAT:

It’s noon at the LA zoo. All of a sudden screams fill the air. A child has wandered to close to the lion cage and a lion has grabbed it and is trying to pull him through the fence. Out of the blue a man runs up and punches the lion in the nose. Confused rather than hurt the lion drops the child and backs away, and the man pulls the child to safety. An LAT reporter is there on his lunch hour and interviews the man. It turns out that he’s an Israeli. The reporter notices his jacket; the guy’s a member of a motorcycle club that gets together for Sunday rides. The reporter gets a few more details, and tells the guy he can plan on reading about himself in the next day’s edition now that his bravery has brought him to the attention of the press. So the next day the man buys the paper to see what the LAT has to say about him. The headline:

Jewish Gang Member Beats Up African Immigrant, Steals His Lunch!

    Steve57 (7a880e)

  19. Elephant Stone @15, Jooooo hatred is his natural state. Why should he see the LAT’s lies as anything but business as usual?

  20. Interesting they have disinterred Turgut Ozal, (who?) and it seems he was actually poisoned sometime in the early 90s,

  22. Lying to their readers?
    Oh, say it isn’t so.
How will The Paper of Record in CA ever survive such an accusation?

    Murdoch, you need this paper!

  23. And what why did these lovely youths enter the buffer zone in the first place? What were they planning to do there?

  25. If Mitt Romney wanted to:

    1) Promote center-right values
    2) Rebuild a dying company
    3) Fire lots of people

he could do worse than buy the LA Times. I hear it’s for sale. Cheap.
