Hubs is delivering Patrick Henry’s “Liberty or Death” speech at Richmond’ s historic St. John’s Church ( site of the original oration) this very moment.
Sarahw (c23a3a) — 7/4/2012 @ 12:32 pmWell, today our President is welcoming those who served in our military to American citizenship …however, he just couldn’t resist going *there*,
Dana (292dcf) — 7/4/2012 @ 12:44 pmDeserving? Or entitled?
Sarahw (c23a3a) — 7/4/2012 @ 12:47 pmWe went to enjoy a great fireworks display along the lakefront last night. There was a huge crowd of seemingly very nice and very respectful people of all ages gathered together on an extremely hot, muggy evening. For that hour I chose to believe that all the people present around us were on the same page–that they all love their country– that they all understood the real meaning of Independence Day–and that they are mindful how each of us has an ongoing role to play in ensuring our founders’ faith and vision of liberty survives for future generations.
elissa (9c0d0c) — 7/4/2012 @ 12:49 pmI am risking life and limb in the peoples’ republic in which I live by wearing my LOL! T-shirt with the Obama Campaign logo substituted for the “O” out in public.
daleyrocks (bf33e9) — 7/4/2012 @ 12:54 pmWe watched the Declaration of Independence being read on You Tube and are going to a neighborhood parade/cookout this evening. Family, friends, and fireworks! Did you happen to see your nephew’s view of who the next POTUS will be? :o)
YourLilSis (1cd43c) — 7/4/2012 @ 1:06 pmDo you think people,have forgotten? This author does.

5- instead of the usual overalls without an undershirt?
tye (5e8d79) — 7/4/2012 @ 1:26 pmGoing to a lake party where I got a horrible case of swimmer’s itch last 4th spotting wild child off the slide.
Entirely different lake this season, cleaner, warmer. And I’ve a plan.
gary gulrud (dd7d4e) — 7/4/2012 @ 1:35 pmPeople can be found to be “in contempt of court” and “in contempt of congress”. There should also be proceedings for people to be found “in contempt of Patterico”. Just sayin’.
elissa (9c0d0c) — 7/4/2012 @ 1:38 pmhear hear elissa.
SPQR (26be8b) — 7/4/2012 @ 1:53 pmI am celebrating be able to blog about Brett Kimberlin.
I just finished up my series covering what I couldn’t say under the gag order, here.
Aaron "Worthing" Walker (23789b) — 7/4/2012 @ 2:07 pmI’m getting drunk with my father in law. That guy is full of stories.
Ghost (6f9de7) — 7/4/2012 @ 2:27 pmAs much as I love New Mexico, today I celebrate the fine people of the other 49 states – for helping to protect this state in its poverty and for funding the programs that support all the New Mexicans who cannot care for themselves. I celebrate solidarity.
Leviticus (102f62) — 7/4/2012 @ 2:34 pmenjoying family, teh newly re-tiled/re-plastered pool and BBQ’ed marinated skirt steak, Aunt Mildred’s potatoes, fruit kabobs.
and freedom, teh bliss and good fortune of being born an American!
and remember Aaron in your prayers and with your wallets!
Colonel Haiku (6c0a10) — 7/4/2012 @ 2:35 pm“I spent the last two years of high school in a daze.”
— Your President
AZ Bob (1c9631) — 7/4/2012 @ 2:38 pmGood thought.
And I’m thankful that Aaron’s freedom was restored before the Fourth. Weeks ago he expressed frustration that the rehearing may take until after independence day, and that led to my being very frustrated in that I didn’t have a good answer for him.
Thank God that Michelle Malkin, Lee Stranahan, Patterico, Ali, Filmladd, and Robert Stacy Mccain did a great job mobilizing public awareness while several awesome lawyers did a great job helping Aaron in the legal system. He had his rights restored and I think his recent five posts about the situation are must-reads. So I’m celebrating that this country has many who still honor that tradition of supporting freedom. Freedom isn’t free, y’all.
Dustin (330eed) — 7/4/2012 @ 2:43 pmstaying at home…
too broke for anything else anyway.
Recovery Summer 2012!
redc1c4 (403dff) — 7/4/2012 @ 4:00 pmTomorrow is our younger daughter’s 21th birthday,* but, being a holiday, we had her birthday dinner tonight, and I am so stuffed I can barely stand it . . . and we haven’t had the cake yet. My darlingest bride fixed salmon that she marinated in honey and bay leaf and allspice and I think some other stuff, and fixed this rice dish with spinach and other stuff of various colors in it. I can barely move.
* – And twenty-oneth is not a typo!
The thoroughly stuffed Dana (f68855) — 7/4/2012 @ 4:31 pmtye @ 8: I hope that means she’s a girl! 🙂
The perverted Dana (f68855) — 7/4/2012 @ 4:33 pmThe Third Book of Moses:

The mathematical genius Dana (f68855) — 7/4/2012 @ 4:36 pmmostly laundry
happyfeet (3c92a1) — 7/4/2012 @ 5:21 pmSmoked Pork Shoulder, slaw, oysters on the 1/2 shell and good company made for a super 4th. God Bless The Americans that Love this Country.
mg (44de53) — 7/4/2012 @ 5:23 pmI hiked, and stumbled upon two does who were graceful and lithe and silent as they sauntered through the vast forest.
Dana (292dcf) — 7/4/2012 @ 5:25 pmsalmon that she marinated in honey and bay leaf and allspice and I think some other stuff, and fixed this rice dish with spinach
Smoked Pork Shoulder, slaw, oysters on the 1/2 shell
Oh my!
Dana (292dcf) — 7/4/2012 @ 5:27 pmCelebrated by running for 2 hours, then biking for 3 hours. Neighborhood cookout with beef tenderloin, homemade bacon, and an afternoon at the pool. Great day.
JD (dfaa6e) — 7/4/2012 @ 5:45 pmRecipes?
Shopped for a replacement dishwasher. Ugh. I didn’t even like the expensive ones. Am I too picky that none of them (I must have stuck my nose in fifty of them) appeal to me? Or is it just that I know what I require, and notice that it’s not there? Probably a Samsung that I’d need to special order.
I am enjoying living in this great land.
htom (412a17) — 7/4/2012 @ 5:47 pmhere is a whole entire thread about buying a dishwasher from the protein wisdom featuring many insights from the sagacious Mr. Ric Locke as well as from the ever-insightful Sarah W
happyfeet (3c92a1) — 7/4/2012 @ 6:33 pmoh wait that’s a washing machine
you’re on your own, dude
happyfeet (3c92a1) — 7/4/2012 @ 6:34 pmoops again my bad
that’s a post where you find wisdoms on both appliances it’s like a two-fer
happyfeet (3c92a1) — 7/4/2012 @ 6:39 pmfeet, does that mean you can’t do the dishes in the washing machine? Darn!
The domestically challenged Dana (f68855) — 7/4/2012 @ 6:44 pmOK, that’s from freaking 2007, Mr. Feets. What model year for appliances is this?
elissa (9c0d0c) — 7/4/2012 @ 6:44 pmyou can for sure wash small articles of clothing in the dishwasher Dana but it doesn’t go the other way
this is mostly due to a lack of innovation
but then i don’t think dishwashers change that much over time elissa they’re kinda like refrigerators, except you don’t keep tasty leftovers in them
I saw a refrigerator at sears for like six thousand dollars what had a digital picture frame on it and I thought to myself people are stupid

I find myself worried that you know this, because I am forced to wonder how you found it out.
And I would have to wonder about Mrs Foots’ (or girlfriend foots) reaction to opening up the dishrinser (as we have more than once referred to ours) to get out a clean spoon, and finding your underwear draped over it.
The concerned Dana (f68855) — 7/4/2012 @ 6:52 pmit’s more of a sock thing really
I just know cause I have a friend who told me he’s done that before
is all
happyfeet (3c92a1) — 7/4/2012 @ 6:56 pmI wash baseball caps in the dishwasher. Unless you use one of these, the caps keep their shape better than in the washing machine.
DRJ (a83b8b) — 7/4/2012 @ 7:02 pmI have steamed fresh fish wrapped in foil in the dishwasher dry cycle.
Dana (292dcf) — 7/4/2012 @ 7:04 pmI’ve read about cooking in the dishwasher, Dana. I wouldn’t mind trying some things but I won’t go as far as the UN’s GreenUp Blog that touts a “Cooking in the Dishwasher” cookbook with the “greenest tricks for a sustainable kitchen.”
DRJ (a83b8b) — 7/4/2012 @ 7:14 pmIt’s the only thing I’ve ever tried in the dishwasher, DRJ. Salmon, olive oil, lemon juice, herbs, a little salt/pepper, wrapped it up in aluminum foil and ran it through. As I recall, it was tender and tasty.
Dana (292dcf) — 7/4/2012 @ 7:22 pm“but then i don’t think dishwashers change that much over time elissa they’re kinda like refrigerators, except you don’t keep tasty leftovers in them”
Mr. Feets – I usually refrigerate my leftovers before throwing them out. Maybe I should try something new?
daleyrocks (bf33e9) — 7/4/2012 @ 7:22 pmMy dishwasher divorced me, so now I have to wash my own. A $600.00 Kitchenaid is all you need, htom.
nk (875f57) — 7/4/2012 @ 7:38 pmIt’s been a good day, and a good year.
Raised Old Glory this morning, tuned in my “John Philip Sousa Station” on Pandora and cranked up the volumn for the neighbors
(the U. S. Marine Corps Band rendition of “Stars & Stripes Forever” + the Boston Pops “1812 Overture” was especially thrilling –
can’t beat the sound of artillery for a concluding flourish),
did 8-miles on the bike, then broke out the sledge to deal with an old concrete walkway/planter that’s been bugging me and is in the way of “future plans”.
A quick trip over to the local “hunting & fishing” club for a little late-lunch and socializing (even won a round of Bingo),
and now relaxing at home hoping some of the neighborhood crazies don’t catch anything on fire with their non-S&S fireworks –
BTW, if it’s so important to shut down the “river of iron” funnelling firearms to Mexico, what about the “black-powder river” that brings illegal fireworks to El Norte?
Happy Fourth All,
AD-RtR/OS! (2bb434) — 7/4/2012 @ 7:41 pmAnd Happy Birthday America!
As for my Fourth: Ativan, prednisolone and atropine, for breakfast; hot dogs and potato chips for lunch; strip steak and potatoes for dinner; Ativan and prednisolone for dessert. Combat! and Gunsmoke on YouTube, in-between.
nk (875f57) — 7/4/2012 @ 7:44 pmChet Atkins playing “Stars and Stripes Forever. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cyiq6lewgOk&feature=colike
nk (875f57) — 7/4/2012 @ 7:49 pmDana,
I’m sure the new citizens, who had gone through a multi-year process of immigration-service hell, appreciated that Obama was jumping illegals into the line and slowing the process down even further for their relatives.
Anyone who has ever had any contact whatsoever with the immigration folks know that they can’t deal with the work they have. I remember a lady crying for hours because the interview she had waited 8 months for was cancelled and had to be rescheduled; the person she was to see had gone on vacation.
Kevin M (bf8ad7) — 7/4/2012 @ 7:55 pmMy husband and I went to see ‘Brave’, which was disappointing. Then, later, I walked down to the bike path along the hudson, followed it to where it was closed (at roughly 70th), and stood in the crowd to watch the fireworks. 🙂 I came home from that and did 2 hours of work because I have a looming deadline.
aphrael (24797a) — 7/4/2012 @ 9:51 pmIn New Zealand? Not a durn thing 😉
scrubone (4f0412) — 7/4/2012 @ 10:45 pmI spent 18 hours in ER yesterday not being able to swallow food or drink due to an esophageal stricture. Of course it started many hours earlier than when I went in, and I had been awake for many hours before that.
So today I celebrated not only the ability to swallow, but the ability to sleep.
Liberty comes in many forms.
