  2. Well, today our President is welcoming those who served in our military to American citizenship …however, he just couldn’t resist going *there*,

But Obama did more than just welcome members of the military to American citizenship. The naturalization ceremony took a political turn when the president defended his controversial decision to unilaterally enact some provisions of the DREAM Act — which would put illegal immigrants who came to this country at a young age on a path to citizenship, but which has failed to win passage in Congress — and also to renew his call for comprehensive immigration reform.

“We’re still perfecting our union, still extending the promise of America,” Obama told the group. “That’s why, as another step forward, we’re lifting the shadow of deportation from serving — from deserving young people who were brought to this country as children. It’s why we still need a DREAM Act — to keep talented young people who want to contribute to our society and serve our country. It’s why we need — why America’s success demands — comprehensive immigration reform.”

  4. We went to enjoy a great fireworks display along the lakefront last night. There was a huge crowd of seemingly very nice and very respectful people of all ages gathered together on an extremely hot, muggy evening. For that hour I chose to believe that all the people present around us were on the same page–that they all love their country– that they all understood the real meaning of Independence Day–and that they are mindful how each of us has an ongoing role to play in ensuring our founders’ faith and vision of liberty survives for future generations.

  6. We watched the Declaration of Independence being read on You Tube and are going to a neighborhood parade/cookout this evening. Family, friends, and fireworks! Did you happen to see your nephew’s view of who the next POTUS will be? :o)

Entirely different lake this season, cleaner, warmer. And I’ve a plan.

  13. As much as I love New Mexico, today I celebrate the fine people of the other 49 states – for helping to protect this state in its poverty and for funding the programs that support all the New Mexicans who cannot care for themselves. I celebrate solidarity.

    Good thought.

And I’m thankful that Aaron’s freedom was restored before the Fourth. Weeks ago he expressed frustration that the rehearing may take until after independence day, and that led to my being very frustrated in that I didn’t have a good answer for him.

Thank God that Michelle Malkin, Lee Stranahan, Patterico, Ali, Filmladd, and Robert Stacy Mccain did a great job mobilizing public awareness while several awesome lawyers did a great job helping Aaron in the legal system. He had his rights restored and I think his recent five posts about the situation are must-reads. So I’m celebrating that this country has many who still honor that tradition of supporting freedom. Freedom isn’t free, y’all.

  18. Tomorrow is our younger daughter’s 21th birthday,* but, being a holiday, we had her birthday dinner tonight, and I am so stuffed I can barely stand it . . . and we haven’t had the cake yet. My darlingest bride fixed salmon that she marinated in honey and bay leaf and allspice and I think some other stuff, and fixed this rice dish with spinach and other stuff of various colors in it. I can barely move.

    * – And twenty-oneth is not a typo!

  25. Celebrated by running for 2 hours, then biking for 3 hours. Neighborhood cookout with beef tenderloin, homemade bacon, and an afternoon at the pool. Great day.

  26. Recipes?

Shopped for a replacement dishwasher. Ugh. I didn’t even like the expensive ones. Am I too picky that none of them (I must have stuck my nose in fifty of them) appeal to me? Or is it just that I know what I require, and notice that it’s not there? Probably a Samsung that I’d need to special order.

I am enjoying living in this great land.

  27. here is a whole entire thread about buying a dishwasher from the protein wisdom featuring many insights from the sagacious Mr. Ric Locke as well as from the ever-insightful Sarah W

    happyfeet (3c92a1)

  28. oh wait that’s a washing machine

    you’re on your own, dude

    happyfeet (3c92a1)

  29. oops again my bad

that’s a post where you find wisdoms on both appliances it’s like a two-fer

    happyfeet (3c92a1)

  30. feet, does that mean you can’t do the dishes in the washing machine? Darn!

    The domestically challenged Dana (f68855)

  31. OK, that’s from freaking 2007, Mr. Feets. What model year for appliances is this?

    elissa (9c0d0c)

  32. you can for sure wash small articles of clothing in the dishwasher Dana but it doesn’t go the other way

this is mostly due to a lack of innovation

but then i don’t think dishwashers change that much over time elissa they’re kinda like refrigerators, except you don’t keep tasty leftovers in them

I saw a refrigerator at sears for like six thousand dollars what had a digital picture frame on it and I thought to myself people are stupid

I find myself worried that you know this, because I am forced to wonder how you found it out.

And I would have to wonder about Mrs Foots’ (or girlfriend foots) reaction to opening up the dishrinser (as we have more than once referred to ours) to get out a clean spoon, and finding your underwear draped over it.

    The concerned Dana (f68855)

  34. it’s more of a sock thing really

I just know cause I have a friend who told me he’s done that before

    is all

    happyfeet (3c92a1)

  35. I wash baseball caps in the dishwasher. Unless you use one of these, the caps keep their shape better than in the washing machine.

    DRJ (a83b8b)

  36. I have steamed fresh fish wrapped in foil in the dishwasher dry cycle.

    Dana (292dcf)

  37. I’ve read about cooking in the dishwasher, Dana. I wouldn’t mind trying some things but I won’t go as far as the UN’s GreenUp Blog that touts a “Cooking in the Dishwasher” cookbook with the “greenest tricks for a sustainable kitchen.”

    DRJ (a83b8b)

  38. It’s the only thing I’ve ever tried in the dishwasher, DRJ. Salmon, olive oil, lemon juice, herbs, a little salt/pepper, wrapped it up in aluminum foil and ran it through. As I recall, it was tender and tasty.

    Dana (292dcf)

  39. “but then i don’t think dishwashers change that much over time elissa they’re kinda like refrigerators, except you don’t keep tasty leftovers in them”

Mr. Feets – I usually refrigerate my leftovers before throwing them out. Maybe I should try something new?

    daleyrocks (bf33e9)

  40. My dishwasher divorced me, so now I have to wash my own. A $600.00 Kitchenaid is all you need, htom.

  41. It’s been a good day, and a good year.
Raised Old Glory this morning, tuned in my “John Philip Sousa Station” on Pandora and cranked up the volumn for the neighbors
(the U. S. Marine Corps Band rendition of “Stars & Stripes Forever” + the Boston Pops “1812 Overture” was especially thrilling –
can’t beat the sound of artillery for a concluding flourish),
did 8-miles on the bike, then broke out the sledge to deal with an old concrete walkway/planter that’s been bugging me and is in the way of “future plans”.
A quick trip over to the local “hunting & fishing” club for a little late-lunch and socializing (even won a round of Bingo),
and now relaxing at home hoping some of the neighborhood crazies don’t catch anything on fire with their non-S&S fireworks –
BTW, if it’s so important to shut down the “river of iron” funnelling firearms to Mexico, what about the “black-powder river” that brings illegal fireworks to El Norte?

    Happy Fourth All,
    And Happy Birthday America!

    AD-RtR/OS! (2bb434)

  42. As for my Fourth: Ativan, prednisolone and atropine, for breakfast; hot dogs and potato chips for lunch; strip steak and potatoes for dinner; Ativan and prednisolone for dessert. Combat! and Gunsmoke on YouTube, in-between.

    nk (875f57)

  43. Dana,

I’m sure the new citizens, who had gone through a multi-year process of immigration-service hell, appreciated that Obama was jumping illegals into the line and slowing the process down even further for their relatives.

Anyone who has ever had any contact whatsoever with the immigration folks know that they can’t deal with the work they have. I remember a lady crying for hours because the interview she had waited 8 months for was cancelled and had to be rescheduled; the person she was to see had gone on vacation.

    Kevin M (bf8ad7)

  44. My husband and I went to see ‘Brave’, which was disappointing. Then, later, I walked down to the bike path along the hudson, followed it to where it was closed (at roughly 70th), and stood in the crowd to watch the fireworks. 🙂 I came home from that and did 2 hours of work because I have a looming deadline.

  46. I spent 18 hours in ER yesterday not being able to swallow food or drink due to an esophageal stricture. Of course it started many hours earlier than when I went in, and I had been awake for many hours before that.

So today I celebrated not only the ability to swallow, but the ability to sleep.

    Liberty comes in many forms.
