Olbermann Fired (Again)

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 5:43 pm

Keith Olbermann has been fired from Current TV, because he no longer reflects the company’s values, it was announced today.

He will be replaced by a man who cheated on his wife with a prostitute.

Thanks to Aaron Worthing, who says: “His viewer must be devastated.”

  2. “His viewer must be devastated.”

    Ouch

  3. Someone said his Mom died so maybe he lost his viewer.
    That would explain the firing.

  4. It’s a blessing Mr. Olbermann’s mother did not live to see this.

  5. It’s Current TV people, did it really happen, if nobody saw.

    narciso (6db04f)

  6. That’s a point for Mr Worthing, the best line of the day award!

Mr Olbermann actually increased audiences, and had the number one show on MSNBC when he was fired. He’s been fired from ESPN, from Fox Sports, from MSNBC and now Current TV. If you can draw an audience, and people still keep firing you, do you think that it’s possible, just possible, that it really isn’t them, it really is you who are the problem?

  7. I must again recommend Jim Norton’s book, I Hate Your Guts. Great chapters on Olby, Sharpton, Jackson, Hilary… You’ll laugh your boobs off.

  8. If he had gotten his Chakra released, would he still reflect Current’s values?

  10. ESPN Chairman Herb Granath on why Olbermann was fired from ESPN:

“I was enraged by Olbermann. Guys like that just piss me off, you know, because there’s no loyalty. It’s just me, me, me. There was no choice but to get rid of him.”

  11. Tommy Xtopher could use a good fact checker, so there might be an employment opportunity for Keith there.

    elissa (a45b83)

  12. Well he can start as a Kramerica intern, and work his way up.

    narciso (6db04f)

  13. The more I think about it I’d kind of like to see Keith as another aging has-been on dancing with the stars.

    elissa (a45b83)

  14. He’s been fired from ESPN, from Fox Sports, from MSNBC and now Current TV.

He has a track record – what did Current TV think they were going to get?

He’s running out of employers… perhaps a season on Dancing With the Stars will turn his fortune around.

    Dana (c6aa60)

  15. Oh, elissa – mind meld!

    Dana (c6aa60)

  16. heh, Dana. I would definitely tune in to see him doing the Argentine Tango.

    elissa (a45b83)

  17. but, elissa, who on earth would agree to be his partner?? Ew.

    Dana (c6aa60)

  18. As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, the only mystery is how Oberman keep on getting job. Ideology aside, even if you whole heartily agree with his point of view, sooner or later, he will have his meltdown, and burn his bridge with his employer. This has happened at EVERY single place he worked at. It’s not like his potential employer didn’t know this.

  19. I’d like to announce that I’ve just hired Keith Olbermann for a movie with OctoMom.

  21. Olberdouche intends suing. I wonder what his contract terms are regarding getting tossed. Supposedly he signed a five year 50 million deal. Ok, I am all for free enterprise even though these twatwaffles want everyone else under communism/socialism. Just cannot fathom how he commands those sums; same goes for Chris matthews and rachel maddow. I get it that Rush and O’Reilly have very high rating and advertising rates to justify the sums they receive.
Remember Air America and what a total failure that was and yet the Senator from Minn. Smiley. The idiot’s real name escapes me for now, had a big air america guaranteed salary and some youth group got screwed over financially or something like that?
If I am aware of people who actually advertise on shows the aforementioned jackasses from the left spew their venom on, I make it a point to not buy that product. Can’t think of people on right that are offensive but I’m sure some must be.

    Calypso Louis Farrakhan (d32e4c)

  22. oh and the reports are Keith O’s replacement is Eliot Spitzer? Why not Anthony Wiener? And I was not aware until just now that Bill Maher is making hay of the Trayvon situation to bash the NRA and gun rights. Yes, people should disarmed as it works so well in hellholes like Detroit, D.C. and Chicago. Funny how a big shithead like Rosie O’Donnell is all against gun rights but ok with armed bodyguards for herself.

    Calypso Louis Farrakhan (d32e4c)

  23. Actually Spitzer did to the economy with his vendettas with his attacks on AIG’s Greenberg, Lehman, et al, more then he did with Dupree,

Yes, Al Franken, carried to the finishlines by
SOS Guthrie and a passel of excon voters, who failed
to pay tax in 37 states,

    Ron Burgundy (6db04f)

  28. In all fairness, Keith O was OK as a sportscaster back in the day.

Yet, he succumbed to a simple conceit: If you are good at this thing, you would be great at this thing.

He wanted to be more than his talents allow.

Sometimes it works out. Other times, it results in a President.

In KO’s case, it resulted in a middle-aged guy sitting alone with twitter for solace. He could’ve been a mentor to sportscasters and baseball fanatics.

Sometimes you have to know your limits.

But you kind of have to give him some credit. He pushed his fame as far as could. However, being a second-rate celebrity only goes so far.

And hitching your star wagon to has-been politicians is foolish, no matter your opinion of your own self-worth.

    Ag80 (b0b671)

  29. “Actually Spitzer did to the economy with his vendettas with his attacks on AIG’s Greenberg, Lehman, et al, more then he did with Dupree,”

Ron – I don’t know about Greenberg and AIG. People keep forgetting about the $5 billion restatement the company booked at the time he was given the boot. Not chump change for the company and if you look at the details, some pretty slimy stuff in there.

    daleyrocks (bf33e9)

  30. Olber-dolt and Shuster shot off their mouths and now they AND Current are getting sued for defamation.

Big shock they don’t want Olber-dolt working for them anymore.

Priority One is making dough. Priority Two is spreading leftoid propaganda…and Olber-dolt is cauusing them to lose money.

Plus he’s such an asshole, he pisses people off, whereever he goes.

    So, it’s buh-bye.

    Dave Surls (46b08c)

  31. Yes, and that left Willemstad, who barely knew where
the executive washroom in charge, while the likes of Cassano’s CDO section was driving the company into the ground,

  32. I’m shattered–just shattered–when I realize that Olberdouche is no longer in front of the TV cameras–appearing on a show that no one watched.

  33. Maybe a local station in Berkeley will take him.

    Kevin M (bf8ad7)

  34. kevin

actually that is very plausible. there is a newscaster i used to see on CNN who now is on a local affiliate. And that is where he parked himself. but that guy seems to have his ego enough in check that he doesn’t mind the demotion too much. Olby? eh, that might be a problem…

Btw, thanks to Patrick for the link.

    Aaron Worthing (73a7ea)

  35. Perhaps the NYT be able to score an interview with him in a continuation of their reportage on “funemployment”.

  37. Maybe a Dancing With The Stars face off between Olbermann and Tom Delay (assuming that his foot is better and his appeal goes well.) That might draw some viewers.

    Right Wing Nutter (f8ccb1)

  38. One could say that Karma works. Another might say that being a decent human works.

Except Spitzer has experienced neither, so far.

    Ag80 (b0b671)

What did Tom Delay do to you other than being elected to an office?

  41. Maybe he’ll be co-anchoring somewhere with Connie Chung before too long. Are there still UHF stations?

  42. Seriously, when you get fired from a channel that nobody watches, only to get picked up by a station that has even less viewers than that, only to get fired again…

Relegated to the dustbin of history? Please? Can he just be done?

    Ghost (6f9de7)

  43. “while the likes of Cassano’s CDO section was driving the company into the ground,”

Ron – Cassano had plenty of help. Quintupling the company’s exposure to the housing market through its investment portfolio, securities lending portfolio, AmGen finance, CDO’s and mortgage insurance was a nice bet the farm strategy that didn’t just start after Greenberg’s departure.

    daleyrocks (bf33e9)

  44. Now appearing on Current TV: The hack ex-governor show, with Eliot Spitzer leading discussions on how his past as a prosecutor prepared him to tackle crime in New York, Jon Corzine telling us how his financial acumen led to budget surpluses in New Jersey, Arnold Schwarzenegger on the need to shed party labels and increase spending on social issues in order to win over soccer moms, and Jennifer Granholm on how a high tax and regulatory system leads hundreds of large companies to want to locate their businesses in your state. Each night at 8:00 pm, only on Current.

  45. Olberman, then Spitzer? Leave it to Gore to practice affirmative action for douchebags.

Was so flabbergasted by the inanity on that site that I could only take a couple of minutes of reading comments, but it looks they they are roughly split 50/50 between “Well, I’ll never watch Current again,” and “Keith has been getting weirder and weirder and I’m kind of glad he is gone.”

  51. Sort of funny considering the Rush hubbub.

Rush takes massive flak; Keith fired.

    thomass (f66bf2)

  52. The description of Spitzer is pithy but misses his essential nature.

Olbermann is being replaced by the former chief law enforcement official of New York State, who was forced to resign in disgrace when federal anti-corruption investigators became suspicious that his transfers of large amounts of cash were part of a bribery scheme, but learned that instead, he was merely engaged in interstate whoremongering (of a sort he previously had prosecuted).

Not pithy. But true, and rather more culpable in my humble opinion than a married man’s cheating with a prostitute. (Also, the singular is misleading; Spitzer had many, so many that he became notorious among the agency’s call-girls.)

    Beldar (6b9b6a)

  53. I ought to have said “inadequate” rather than “misleading” there. Mea culpa. I also meant to include the word “promiscuous” as a modifier for “whoremonger.” No one shall ever just accuse Eliot Spitzer of dilly-dallying when it comes to his whore-mongering; no, ma’am, and no, sir, Spitzer dealt in bulk (hence the cash transfers that triggered bank reporting requirements).

False tweeting is a growth industry, and despite Twitter’s placing of a blue tick on the verified accounts of the famous, users continue to trip up. In January even Twitter was fooled into briefly verifying tweets purporting to be by Wendy Deng, Rupert Murdoch’s wife, in which she flirted with comic Ricky Gervais.

This happened in this story also, where Current TV linked to a fake Twitter account for Eliot Spitzer.

You know, the whole Rush thing had me thinking that Conservatives need to fight back more against these creeps.

To me, it might as well be Twitter. A lot goes on there that you miss if you are not following it.

I think conservative blogs (especially Breitbart, Patterico, Ace, etc.) need to make the case to their readers that they are needed for push back on this kind of stuff. I don’t mean astroturfing, I just mean participating.

We have the numbers to thwart a lot of this nonsense if we showed up to the fight.
