And is ruthlessly lampooned by John Oliver of the Daily Show.

Absolutely brilliant.

  1. Given the awful nonsense you and I both know about, Patterico, thanks for posting this hysterical bit.

Could she possibly be that dense? I actually think she is the poster child for “it’s different when I do it” brigade.

This needs to be shown far and wide.

  2. This should be posted in the Oxford Dictionary of the English Language next to the word hypocrite.

  4. I really enjoyed this. The ‘some people just don’t understand irony’ exchange was reality beating fiction hands down.

  5. the latest on this @ AoSHQ is oh so predictable on her part:

Via @jamestaranto, she says “a lot of my reasoning ended up on the cutting room floor.”

this claim is totally unexpected and unprecedented.

    totally, fer sure. 8)

    Never mind.

  11. I am sure some of her “logic” was edited out, because nothing she said would justify the hypocrisy.

It is a funny bit, but let’s not forget that John Stewart and crew really don’t like uncivil language. I mean unless they need Yusef Islam to sing “Peace Train” for a stupid “Crazy Train”/”Peace Train” mashup bit, then f— it, put him on the stage in the rally to restore sanity, as the voice of sanity.

So if we were going to talk about hypocrites…

So? Her conclusion itself evidence the utter lack of self-awareness and logical thought. Would the path of thought she used to arrive at said conclusions change the outcome or make them any less ludicrous?

utter lack of self-awareness and logical thought.

The behavior you describe often strikes me as characteristics common among most people on the left. That’s probably why liberals can more easily rationalize away the failings of ideas and people of the left — and have a tougher time truly mocking those on the left (so the Daily Show deserves a small bit of credit) — while a greater number of conservatives will be sheepish when something or someone associated with rightism doesn’t pan out.

This may be at the core of why conservative politicians generally aren’t given as much benefit of the doubt as what is directed at liberal ones. Greatly helped, of course, by a compliant media—dominated by those who definitely lack much honest self-reflection and logic (or the types who’ll say: “The MSM isn’t biased to the left! How can it be!! It’s owned by big corporations!”).

Both in the post, and the various comments on the blog and Ms. Harrop’s blog–Before she wiped ALL COMMENTS (snapshot in above link) from her blog.

She does not want to hear what people have to say.

  25. I can’t imagine how annoying her endless attempt to explain her rationale must have been.

I bet she went on like that for ages. But that clueless look in her eyes… it’s so bad you’d think she was a right wing plant.

  26. “a lot of my reasoning ended up on the cutting room floor.”

It’s amusing, isn’t it, to witness a woman who went on and on about others not understanding irony while displaying the obvious fact she doesn’t understand irony.

Having belonged to various media categories that fall under the general heading of “let’s just make s*** up about these people to make them look as bad as we all deep down know they really are,” I know better than to go into an interview without my own camera recording the whole thing.

I guess, like “colorful language,” press ambushes are what happens to those other people. Not HER!

Somebody has to stand up for Belgian prostitutes. The previous comment is an insult to their integrity, and unlike Ms. “Civility Project” actually give you what you pay them for.

Or, uhh, that’s what I’ve heard about Belgian prostitutes.

I’ve also heard that, unlike at the NCEW, you can’t rise too far up the career ladder as a Belgian prostitute if it looks like you took a tumble out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down.

Just thought I help elevate the discourse and share that with the rest of you.

She said…right before permanently disabling any comments on her blog, after she recieved a (well merited) storm of criticism for her blatant hypocrisy regarding civility.

Well, if you’re going to be a pathological liar, a hypocrite, a champion of totalitarian government as well as one of the stupidest, most clueless leftards on the internet, might as well double down on the hypocrisy. Can’t hurt anything.

  38. She was clearly in on the gag, as she couldn’t contain her smirk.

She’s been pilloried for calling the Tea Party “terrorits” while serving in the Civility Project for months. Not sure why the Daily Show is just getting around to it, but I suspect they cleared the whole script with her long in advance and it just took this long to put it together.

That said, she’s still an idiot.

  39. Froma Harrop is the result of a threesome with Ed Harris Chuckie Manboobs at LGF and Ed Harris.

    Dohbiden (ef98f0)

  40. Did I say Ed Harris twice I meant Debbie Schlussel who respects Politico.

    Dohbiden (ef98f0)

  41. She was clearly in on the gag, as she couldn’t contain her smirk.

Have you visited her blog, where she writes about how it’s OK for her to call the Tea Partiers terrorists because that’s just an objective fact? It’s all those other people who engage in “ugly, contentious, character-assassinating and violence-provoking language” who are being uncivil. At least, that’s how the Civility Project she heads defines uncivil discourse. Clearly the people who work at the National Confederation of Editorial Writers weren’t talking about themselves.

I’d say anyone who attempts to defend herself by redefining incivility so it no longer means what her own civility project says it is, but instead as not allowing others to “speak their piece,” then immediately transgresses against her brand new definition of incivility by disabling and deleting all her comments to prevent people from speaking “their piece,” really doesn’t get the “gag” in the first place. Even if it had been explained to her, she couldn’t have been in on it because she honestly doesn’t know it’s a gag at all.

She is perfectly willing, apparently, to go on TV or the internet to defend herself against her critics while simultaneously proving her critics right. That takes some industrial-strength cognitive dissonance. But no more than liberals in general, and journalists in particular, are capable of.

It’s wonderful news for the environment that the Obama administration plans to spend taxpayer dollars directly purchasing or subsidizing the manufacture and purchase of electric vehicles to reach it’s goal of 1 million more of these things on the road by 2015, isn’t it? And if you live next to a liberal, particularly a journalist, you may see one of these vehicles in your neighbors driveway.

If so, then in the foreseeable future the odds are you’ll have plenty of time to discuss what a great idea this with that neighbor of yours when, without even thanking you for helping pay for their new car, hits you up for a ride to work because the rolling blackouts meant they couldn’t charge their Nissan Leaf’s batteries.

  42. There are other clips showing her doing the same thing. She, like many of her coreligionists (leftism) don’t have a sense of irony, let alone humor.

The used to be called Bush Derangement syndrome but it needs another name. This is part of it” From David Warren:
“Yet they do have one major thing in common, and that is the belief that, regardless of what the ruler does, the polity he rules must necessarily continue. This is perhaps the most essential, if seldom acknowledged, insight of the post-modern “liberal” mind: that if you take the pillars away, the roof will continue to hover in the air.”

THat covers the economic consequences of this mental delusion that is modern left wing thought.

Diane Sawyer talks about the unforeseeable, hurtful reaction to the judge’s question when she showed up for jury duty.

“You know, I wanted to sit on a jury once and I was taken off the jury. And the judge said to me, ‘Can, you know, can you tell the truth and be fair?’ And I said, ‘That’s what journalists do.’ And everybody in the courtroom laughed. It was the most hurtful moment I think I’ve ever had.”
    — Co-host Diane Sawyer, ABC’s Good Morning America July 12, 2007.

    Steve (1f4b7c)

  45. Obviously I meant the reaction of everyone in the courtroom to her answer, not the question.

She was honestly surprised by the reaction. Just like Froma Harrop was surprised by the reaction to that Daily Show segment.

“We’re journalists. We’re fair. We tell the truth. I can’t be a hypocrite.”

By the way, Froma Harrop had a post on the blog before that show aired. She said she was in on the gag.

But based on her lame post-show attempt at a defense where she demonstrated she can’t even live up to her own shifting definitions of civility for even a day, I’d say she didn’t get it.

I’m sure they explained the joke to her. Several staffers probably tried. Over and over.

By the way anyone who votes for Obama over the GOP nominee ceases to be smart in my eyes.
